Any interesting propositions? How is Obama doing in Illinois?

In my local election we don’t have any major races for office, just the status quo returning. I think there’s 16 propositions. One is a softening of the 3 Strikes law which Arnold has recently come out heavily against. If it passes the 3rd strike would have to be “serious” or “violent” in nature to qualify for the life stretch. And some of those already prosecuted may be released if their 3rd crime does not qualify – not sure how far back they are going to go. Probably won’t pass the way the “No” campaign has been hitting it these last few days.

We have a healthcare insurance prop that would require all companies (at least 10 employees and up I think) to offer health insurance to all employees [and some dependents] and the company must pay 80% of the premiums. Downside is a new multi-million dollar governmental agency would be created to run this and what good is only having to pay 20% of a premium if the deductible is $1000 or more? Folks will still be going to the emergency room for the flu.

Osama is waaay ahead in the polls, but I have an uneasy feeling that if Alan Keyes was not a carpetbagger and had entered this race on his own, from the start, rather than being foisted on the voters, he would be doing a whole lot better. By injecting his religious beliefs into his campaign messsage, saying abortion, stem-cell research and gay marriage are all wrong and that prayers should be allowed is schools, Keyes strikes a chord in a lot of black folks. And Obama's being from Chicago and his having a very liberal voting record makes the rural whites in down state Illinois itchy. Hopefully Keyes's hypocritical arrogance and the idea that he is a tool of the Republican party will be enough to stifle his chances and take Obama over the top.

Egads! Y'all know I mean "Obama" not "Osama." But, actually, Osama is also doing pretty good here. A lot of Democrats think he made Bush look like a fool.

Oh yea, I forgot about the stem-cell research proposition. Arnold has bucked the republican party line and has come out in favor of it.

Crystal,

We are never going to fix the healthcare problems until we critically review/control what the medical plan administrators, HMO's and pharmaceutical companies are doing and install some systems of reviewing/compelling genuine efficiencies within the hospitals themselves.

Its don’t surprise me one bit Schwarzeneger support stem cell research.

The only thing that is genuinely Republican about "dah Arnold" is his bank account. Everything else almost borders on the ‘hippie’.

Cynique,

I was watching a recent segment of HBO’s Real Time with Bill Mahler and the sentiment there was anytime Osama shows up, he helps reelect Bush and that THAT is Osama desire. Because Bush has done more in 3 years to increase Alqueda(sic) recruitment and foster rabid Islamic fundamentalism that all of his predecessors put together.

But who can really predict how the voters/Muslims will respond to Osama’s recent BET video.

And Keyes is nuttier than a big ol’ bag of Baby Ruth bars.

You know Michael Moorer says his next docu-drama will be about HMO's. Wonder if it will help?
