haven't seen it yet but i'm really looking forward to it. is it me or was this movie not promoted well (or at all)? i didn't even know about it until this weekend!!! |

Kimbery Elise and Loretta Devine are MAGNIFICENT actresses, they both deserve Oscar nods for this film.
The film, overall, is low budget and the structure almost destroyed the execution of the story's CORE....but the performances by Elise and Devine and the "molestor" were so well done....and the social commentary via Jakes's writing was so RELEVANT....that I really did like the film.
I've been emailing friends and urging them to go see the film.
It's important for our community.

I definitely want to see this movie. I like Kimberly Elise, although 'Beloved' tripped me out.
T.D. Jakes seems like an incredible man --an incredible human being! I watch him on T.V. every once in awhile.

You'll love it, Moon. Go see it.
It's about all these broken people....mainly broken because of the mother (Loretta Devine's) being a weak woman who lets her men go through her daughter.
But it's about a lot more than that. It's done on a low budget, but it's worth paying to see.

I finally saw this movie this weekend and I must say I enjoyed it. It was an all-star cast and the message was deep. I'll be buying this on DVD!!! |

WHY should someone consider seeing this movie?
I too am a Kimberly Elise fan (were she a White woman, with her beauty/prescence she’d be as big a star as Julia Roberts.) and will likely see it largely on the strength of her being in it.
And I like Loretta Devine too.
But none of you have really said enough about the film to convince those to see it who do NOT know much about it's message, story and actresses. |

The movie is basically about a woman who is abused by her momma's man and it chronicles her life story and struggles. What I enjoyed most is that it actuallity let's you in on how EVERYONE feels/felt, even the molestor himself. You get it from every angle, from every mindset....Ever wonder how a woman ALLOWS her child to be molested?...SEE THIS MOVIE...Ever wonder what drives a person to drugs/prostitution/sexual addiction?...SEE THIS MOVIE...Ever wonder what goes on in the mind of a sexual predetor?...SEE THIS MOVIE!!!

LOL....i tried...it's very good though. you'll enjoy it and it taps in very deeply about that R.Kelly thing we were talking about...not directly to him but the situation he put the little girl in. |

You don't see the actual act but you see him grabbing her and trying to kiss her, her screaming and the worst part is the after affect...what she looks like afterwards...it's not graphic but it will still make your stomach sick.....BASTARD....sorry, but that's what i said when i watched it...kinda reverted back, my bad. it will make you mad but it will also make you understand....well not so much understand because that is not understandalbe but you can see through the eyes of others....which most of us never do. |

Yeah. I feel yah, somewhat anyway.
I can stand seeing only so much of that kind of stuff. Because I start visualizing some fool with his hands on one of my daughters and it drives me right out of my F@#$%ING mind.
I'll definitely try to catch it by the weekend, and then I'll offer my male perspective.

I feels ya on that, I am like that with anything. A 6 year old was killed last night while walking with him mother and 2 siblings...I bugged this morning. I always put myself in the parents position and the pain is undescribable. I couldn't imagine, well let me know when you see the movie...i'm bout to go back to crying {i'm such a crybaby}. LATER!!!

Yeah. For the same reason you describe, I often avoid hearing/seeing anything related to a child being harmed.
That's fine, Baby girl. Bawl it all out!
My wife is a bigtime cryer too. It used to drive me nuts! But over time, I have grown to understand that is a very healthy way of resolving one's mental/emotional condition.
And it is actually quite endearing.  |

I here ya Abm, let me tell you a quick story (OK my stories are never quick...lol). First let me ask you do you remember back in March of 03 when this 9 year old boy took a little 3 year old from the library, walked him down the street, beat him to death and then watch the police search for the little boy from his window....OK so anyway this story takes place the weekend after (approx. 3-4 days later) this horrible incident. I went to VA to celebrate my cousin's 16th b-day. Her mom had rented 2 hotel rooms (the actual party was in the hotel banquet room) so the girls could go swimming and spend the night {the other room was for the adults to be close by}. So after the party my 2 male cousin (13-14) are putting the food away in the car and they were 'sneaking some' so all the adults were looking at them out the window and we were all laughing and stuff. So when they get to the door and walk in we all start busting their chops and laughing at them and then I say 'where's karleigh?' That is my youngest daughter who was 16 months at the time. And one aunt is like oh she's upstairs with Leya (my sisiter) but I know my child was just here. So I go to look in the bathroom (and for this I will always hate going into dark bathrooms) and as I open the door it's pitch black dark and I feel my heart stop and a undescribable feeling along with a terrifying scream about to escape my throat as I hear a knock on the door and this man (black of course) says I heard ya looking for someone and I think this might be her'...Abm, when my aunt opened the door to let my cousins in, she did not see the little itty bitty yellow baby girl (don't take that yellow comment offensesive, it's just that we are all dark and my baby's really really light so I call her mellow yellow...bleek calls her spongebob squarepants...lol) she did not see her walk out the door. This all took about 30-45 seconds and I swear that was the longest most painful 30-45 seconds ever. I picked her up and held her and cried for about 30 minutes straight (and cried everytime i told the story). Nobody but my mother understood. They all were like 'she's ok, it was only a minute, you act like she's gone' but in my heart i knew that within that split second SHE COULD HAVE BEEN GONE!!! I know this may sound wrong but I always beleived that if that man was not black it may not have gone that way (not saying black people don't hurt people),and all the other possibilites that COULD have happened. Thank you Jesus that it didn't but I couldn't help but think...what if?

My heart was racing as I read. Though I should have figured right-off things would be okay. Otherwise you wouldn't have been able to tell the story.
Yeah. It can happen just like that. I think most parents have a couple of moments of parental hysteria over their children.
We all have had some version of the following: Your toddler waddles near the edge of a 4-story balcony, your child momentary misplaced in a crowded public setting, your newborn accidentally left in a hot car while you go shopping and your child breaks free of your grasp then races towards a busy crosswalk.
But GOD had your back. So everything turns out alright.
Still. You can't but help wondering, visualizing, and even feeling guilt about the tragedy that could have occurred.
I ALWAYS enjoy a good personal story. Thank you for sharing. |

You're welcome for the story...lol. funny that you should mention leaving a child in a hot car. That is one of my worst nightmares (along with being hit by cars, kidnapped, falling and all that other scary stuff) but I actually realized how easy it is to leave a child in a car. It's so scary that's why we always have to stay focused. I think I just might start a thread on the scariest parent expreince to see just how many we can come up with...later gator. |
