In what state is it the last day? That's important. You can find the date in your states online. |

Californians have until October 18th, and October 26th for absentee ballots. Each state varies. |

I wonder why? They said on Nightly News tonight that the deadline is 30 days before the election and that included absentee ballots. I wonder why? |

Yes, this was very interesting! It doesn't quite seem fair to me that some states have more time to register than others! Do you know what the reasoning behind this is, Whistlingwoman? |

I couldn't figure it out either. Some states allow residents to get down to the wire yet the general understanding is that it's uniform across the country. |

Question: What are we having to ‘register’ for anyway? Look. People are always complaining about the lack of participation in the electoral process when the truth is this system is intentionally orchestrated to DISCOURAGE foks from voting. And part of how we are prohibited from voting is this fallacious registration process. This whole notion of foks having to ‘register’ to vote has been a bunch of crap from day-one. Truth is, a person should be permitted to vote the moment they reach 18 WITHOUT any additional documentation. And with the advent of computers/Internet, you should be able to take a valid ID and vote within any polling place in your town and vote for any candidate whose office corresponds with your place of residence. Also, do you know that in other countries elections are held either on weekends or have been made into non-working holidays, both which are much more convenient than the second day of the work week. This practice of holding elections on Tuesday is discriminatory against poorer, blue collar people (of which constitute a higher disproportion of Blacks) because these people typical have less flexibility over their work/break schedules than do White collar workers. And since many Blacks work +2 jobs just to make ends meet, they are even further hindered from voting. Thus, I think rather than engaging in a lot of criticizing/handwringing over who is/isn’t registered, perhaps our efforts would be better applied toward abolishing the strictures that unfairly prohibit us from voting to begin with. PS: Social Security is the biggest individual line item on the US government budget. Why? Because old people have the time/inclination to VOTE. |

Abm: Now you're catching on. A few years ago I approached one of the local Aldermen with the idea that ways should be found to register more people to vote. He stated that he was winning with the numbers he had registered now, and if more got registered they might vote for an opponent. And to think other countries actually admire us for our "free" elections. |
