Hello Everyone,
My name is A_Womon, and I'm addicted to AALBC.
It all began one day back in May, when I was feeling down and decided to do a search for a certain publishing company, and up popped THUMPER'S CORNER. It looked so innocent and inviting and appeared to be just what I needed to give myself a boost, and get my creative juices flowing (aint that how it starts?)
So I began reading the different posts and a rush hit me. I wanted to post, and I thought, what could it hurt to try it one time. JUST ONE TIME!
How unfortunate for me that I couldn't resist the urge, because now it consumes me! I can't go to sleep at night, cause it be calling me man, It just be calling me! I try to resist, but I sign on, as I try to talk myself out of it, I tell myself, YOU don't need a hit of AALBC, DONT BE WEAK. you CAN kick the addiction! But I break out in a cold sweat and *OH GOD* I just can't resist! I go there and I just read and post for hours, and hours and hours...I even sneak a peek or two while I'm at WORK!
I need help yall. Has anyone else been where I
am? Can anyone advise me where to find a 12 step program for posters? |

{smile} This discussion board can definitely be addictive. I just popped by to do some discussion board maintainance and I have to be carefull not to get caught up in reading posts or else I'll be here all day -- and that is without making a post.
Seriously, what I do is take time off periodically. If I did not, I would not have time to maintain the rest of the web site.
Even today I had plans to spend less time on the board, but I'll end up spending more time than I intended -- but it is cool. Reading and making posts is usually more fun that performing web site maintenance and updates.

I think all of us regular posters are addicted in various degrees to the seductiveness of Thumper's Corner. Time and time again this little cyber realm has proven to me that personal identities reside in the spirit of our words, not in the physicality of our being. In the inner sanctum of this internet web, people are defined by the substance of their opinions rather than the superficiality of their appearance. We are all faceless entities sharing our thoughts and ideas and venting our rage and indignation. There are no physical barriers to inhibit us, no body language to expose us, no voice inflections to betray us. It is a unique venue where a shy person can be bold, and a bold person be vulnerable. It is a dimension where language rules and souls are bared. It is a community of minds that transcend their bodies, an arena that offers freedom of expression, a forum that provides an outlet for our passions and convictions. It is also a stage for our drama and our humor, one that gives wings to our imaginations. Is it addictive? Of course it is. Who can resist the chance to be who you really are. Who can resist an opportunity to extol what you believe to be the truth. |

Well, the first step to handling any addiction is admitting that one has one, which is what you've done here. Good!

Seriously, though, I hear you, A_womon. I too have long since been 'seduced' by the allure of Thumper's Corner.
I think Cynique provides a splendid explanation for what occurs here. And I might add that perhaps those of us who regularly visit here are similar in that we enjoy discussing/arguing (belaboring?) an issue to a depth/breadth and are not able to find similarly predisposed people within our 'physical' world. |

A_woman: What I do from time to time, is take a day or two break from the board. Then when I get some free time I try to catch up without posting for a day or two. Of course, I always end up backsliding because I check the poetry side for inspiration and I'll see someone on this side will have posted and I'm sucked in. Usually if I notice that you or Cee-cee, or Abm has posted, I know something interesting is going on. If Kola posts, I know some serious drama is going down and I gotta read that! If old Sarge has posted, its gonna be funny cuz he's cuttin' into somebody's azz. And if ya boy Thumpdaddy was the last one to post, then I know somebody's in trouble and I want in on it. If ya airhead Moon friend has got anything to say then I know one of us is bout to f*&^ with her. Soooooo, I guess Ima junkie, too. |

I forgot about your boyfriend, Yukio. I'm really jealous of you two's relationship...Also, he can wear colors and prints better than I can. I guess those gay guys just seem to have that flair for flamboyant(sp) dress...roflsbf*!

I'm only here because a friend of mine said I could meet some nice chicks here. Well maybe I have a little problem but I can quit anytime I want. Ahh, okay I've tried to stop a time or two but I wasn't really trying to stop. Well I would have stayed in that locked room if I hadn't run out of food. See, y'all just weak, I mean this stuff ain't addictive, I've got a friend who's been "visiting" (chipping) for over 6 years and she ain't hooked. Yeah, she visits everyday but she don't always post. I just do it because it makes the chicks horny. Okay, maybe I do have a problem.

It's not easy living in hiding with nothing to do but...have a glass of Merlot and try to make BORING, VAPID people "seem" exciting and entertaining....by SPICING them up.

a lot of people think that I'm really a lesbian, because I have close friends that are lesbian...and I go out with them in groups. Or in my new web site photos--I'm visiting a lesbian organization.
The fact is--I'm totally straight. MEN ONLY. But many of my heroes are lesbian women like Alice Walker, Audre Lord, bell hooks and my best friend Alicia Banks.
But it's hard to get people to understand that SOME OF US are not afraid of people...just because they're different.
I also hang out with white girls occasionally. Which shocks people---because they assume that anybody whos' AFRO-CENTRIC...is against other people.
It's simply not true.
I would even date white men again, although--I really prefer and feel a SPECIAL BOND with black men that makes it hard for me to be with other races of men. But I do...like...white guys.
So I think that Yukio's RUSE (where he let us believe he was a woman for like....2 years.....was scientific and introspective on his part. It really turns me on that he's that brave).
