Chris,

Yeah. He laid it down. Didn't he?

We may be in a heaping more trouble than we myopically arrogant Americans can clearly see. I think other countries are taking a stern and sober look at what we're doing lately and are wonderING when/if THEY might our next Iraq.

And I have never quite understood this notion of America being the ONLY post-Soviet Union superpower when, to my recollection, Russia STILL has a $#@+load of nukes in their backyard.

Honestly, America is so delusional that an ICBM might have to explode in the center of downtown Chicago BEFORE we realize the trouble we have made for ourselves.

The Administration must be crazy; "You need to seek a political solution with the Chechen rebels, Mr. Putin."

How could they even fix their mouths to say that after the way they have been running all around the world like Cowboys last three years? Man, the Bush Bunch is delusional?

I have to admit he told 'em. The U.S. has lost all moral authority and I don't know when they can get it back. If they can't force somebody or bribe them they may as well save it.

Chris,

You should see the recent Tom Clancy inspired movie "The Sum of All Fears" (Morgan Freeman, Ben Affleck). Amazingly, this very issue is a focal point of the screenplay.

Basically, art is imitating life and vice-versa.

In the movie, the US CIA Chief (Freeman) complains to Russian President about Russia's handling of Chechea. Russia defiantly says stay out of it. US arrogantly says if you don’t handle it, we will. Russia finally says for the US to get involved would be like a man having an affair with another man’s wife and he then proposing that they all calmly live in the same house together when what really happens is the married man buys a gun.

I think Bush'em bettah stay outtah deezes married foks biznaz! Or dey gonna get us ALL KILLED!

So, Chris, how salient do you think is the observation that Americans would rather have a strong presidential candidate who's wrong, rather than a weak one who's right? Talk about a Catch 22! I'm with you, babe. This upcoming election is almost a farce.

Cynique:

My faith in human nature was being restored until all this.

But I ain't mad at the Bushies. No. They are supposed to try and get over. I am mad at all these idiots who are backing them while they KNOW they wrong.

Is it true what they say? Those whom the Gods would destroy they first make mad?

Hubris is as bitch. And as far as the war in Iraq is concerned, once people get into the mindset that Americans don't "cut and run," their resolve becomes emboldened and they're spurred on by the idea that it's us against the world, and that America's divine role as the good guys will carry the day. But I do wonder why the Republican powers behind the throne don't recognize this as jingoism and be reluctant to back a war that is not in the national interest. Or, in the long run, is it?

Bush is being back mostly for only one reason: White foks feel he'll not hesitate kill those evil Arab terrorists BEFORE the terrorist kill them. They, however, are not sure whether Kerry is as resolute on that point.

It really is simple as that. All that other stuff is smoke screen and innuendo.

On the most recent Bill Mahler HBO show, Mahler showed several magazine covers that showed a very macho looking Bush. He almost looked like a defending sheriff in one of those John Wayne or Gary Cooper westerns.

Even Mahler, whose backing Kerry, was compelled to admit that THAT at this particular point in history, THAT is how (White) foks want their president to look.

But that tells you how crazy the world is. Because Bush (mostly all of his DC chums) is the war dodging punk@$$...and Kerry's been awarded Silver Star.

Cynique,

There are some arch-conservative types who disagree with this expansionist Bush government. Over the weekend, I witnessed Nixon-minion Pat Buchanan (of all foks) speak quite eloquently about how this war could possibly be the death of us. But foks like Pat don't have a direct ear of Bush. And since Bush doesn't read (4 Christ Sake!), all she see/hear is what his neo-con dimwits want him to see/hear. And they are so inured in their GOPhood, they'd never actually support Kerry over Bush Jr.

Well, Abm, we do have some points of agreement, don't we? Americans do like their rationales couched in simple language.
