Hello All,

Ok, I'm breaking this off into another thread from that obscenely long "achievement" thread.

ABM: I disagree with your post addressed to Carey. I can't speak for Carey, I can speak for myself though. Yes, Moonsign is free to post and say what she likes, but we also have the freedom to not become active in any discussion on topics we don't want to. We are free to do that, ain't we? *eyebrow raised*

As far as discussing race, again we are past the point of talking. Listen if white folks ain't got it by now, after all of these hundreds of years...not only does this fact say something about their mental capacity to grasp the truth, but the fact that they don't want to get it. So, we are wasting our time trying to convince them the err of their ways. If they don't know us by now, dey ain't goin to know us.

Besides we have enough dealing with our own intraracism. Let's talk absurdity. I know you've heard that saying from the upper mobile black men, "the only color that today's white men see is green." *eyebrow raised* Or could it be that we, as a people, never believed in solidarity in the first place. There has never been a collective wave or sentiment among the majority of black people that we would uphold our culture, society, history, etc. When we all lived on one side of town, it was because the white men forced us too. And with desegregation the whole black infrastructure that we were forced to create and maintain died. We need to get the rich black and the poor black to sit at the same table. I'm more concerned about THAT than keeping an open dialogue with people that are half listening to what I'm saying.

Now I've sat back and watched the dialogue between everyone and reached my conclusion concerning discussing race with Moonsign based on that. While I'm not crazy about the fashion A_womon framed her argument, she hit the nail on the head and Moonsign wasn't listening to what she was saying. So while you are correct in saying that A_womon, Lambd, Carey et al wasn't listening to the truth as to what Moonsign was saying; the same can be said (and I am saying it) that the exact opposite is true.

There's no need for Moonsign to feel singled out about it though, I won't talk race with Clarence Thomas or Armstrong Williams either (well except to say that they are two damn fools!). It would be an excerise in futility.

Now, I'm going to finish cooking my Sunday dinner. Or should I say, straight black folk Sunday dinner. I just picked some big green tomatoes, got the hot water cornbread to make, fried chicken to fry, and red beans and rice to finish. My chlosterol is fine, thank you very much. I'll leave the rest of yawl with yawl low fat, low carb stuff. *evil laugh*

Thumper,

First. Thanks for continuing this discussion under another Topic. (JEEZ +300 posts under one topic is AMAZING.)

Now. I did say in my post to Carey that those of us who chose not to converse with Moonsigns (or myself and even YOU for that matter) can simply ignore her. So perhaps that is most expeditious way for some of to resolve how we feel about her.

But, look. I understand WHY everyone feels about the "Moonsigns" of the world. But hiding from her kind won't help us. Doing that only embellishes them and cows us. At some point, we have got to stop being scared of White people and engage them as full-fledged men and women.

And we can't have it both ways.

We can't hue/haw about how we are being denied access and/or the right to this-that-n-the-other. Then do to them what that very thing. That simply is not a cosmically valid way to think/live.

Should we agree/embrace what a Moonsigns think we should simply because she's White. Of course not! However, neither should we discount/disregard it either strictly on that basis.

Honestly, I am not trying to convince White people like her to feel/believe much of anything. Because I agree that many if not most of them are just too damn hardhead to extricate themselves from the illusions of White supremacy.

But, to me, you got to face the Devil to kill'em.

I'd rather let a Moonsigns deal her deal and when/where she's in error, clearly/definitely point it out so that whoever else, Black/White, might spy what we do here, they will have an opportunity to use what occurs here to advance beyond our past/present problems.

Now. I agree with EVERYTHING you say about our intraracial troubles. But, ironically, that proves that, as Cynique alluded to, issues of prejudice/bigotry are not restricted to White people. Moreover, I predict if there were NO White people, we'd STILL be arguing fighting (and maybe even killing each other) over issues of skin color, facial features, hair texture, geography, wealth/poverty. What's going on in parts of Africa illustrate that phenomenon.

So, in conclusion, I'll say, as long as we ourselves perpetuate a sentiment of exclusion of others, we ferment such without our own people, families and even our own spirits the very maladies that have ravaged us all.

PS: Enjoy your dinner. I'm grilling today (prefer to 'que the day before a holiday). Got a few ribs, burgers, dogs and burgers going. And hey. Don't worry about 'plaining your dietary intake to me. Mums the word. (~"Hey Dr. Cardiologist. Man. You won't believe the stuff that dude Thumper is shoveling down his gullet."~)

Hello All,

ABM: Who's scared? *eyebrow raised* Ain't nobody scared of the "Moonsigns" of the world or anybody else. You're not picking up what I'm putting down. What I'm saying is that we, the black community, need to stop looking towards white folks to fix us. We need to stop begging white folks to accept us as human beings. We need to stop seeking their approval or their validation of our lives. Let me say it plainly, the next battle in the war against racism is not on the backs of black folks, its white folks. It's up to white folks to change THEIR way of thinking! It's no longer up to us to teach or point out to people the error of their ways. Like I said the time for talking is past. Now if they slip up and make a mistake, I ain't brokering 'em. I'm going to do what I have to do to get over.

You wrote: But, to me, you got to face the Devil to kill'em.

Well, for me, it's better having more than one way to knocking him on his butt than begging him for the weapon to hit him over the head with.

Now, I find it funny that you wrote: "So, in conclusion, I'll say, as long as we ourselves perpetuate a sentiment of exclusion of others, we ferment such without our own people, families and even our own spirits the very maladies that have ravaged us all."

Excuse me!! Was it not you who said in the other thread about its time for us to fire and hire each other, etc. when it came to doing for our boys and young men and instilling a sense of morality? *eyebrow raised* That was you, wasn't it? What happened between that post and this one? Yes, we need to start depending, supporting, raising our selves. Frankly, I don't see nothing wrong with it. How come every other ethnicity, nationality are allowed to do this, but when it comes to black folks we should be more concerned about assimilating into the white folks society? Is there something about being around, living around, working around your own people? That's part of our problem now, thinking that the white man's ice is colder. It's fine to go out into the world and survive and thrive. I don't have a problem with that. But I don't see nothing wrong with bringing the money home and supporting our own community either.

PS: Cardiologists be damn. I've been looking forward to this dinner for a while. I'll be good tomorrow. *smile*

Well, the one thing that long, heated exchange proved to me is that apparently blacks and whites will never come to a meeting of the minds. So what does that portend for the future? A bunch of mad-azzed black folks and a crowd of clueless white people doing a sorry job of co-existing in a capitalistic society where color does matter and collective consciousnesses do divide us. As I said before, Life is not fair. But, who knows? Maybe black folks will get lucky. Me, I'm going and watch "The Return of the King" for the umpteenth time. The dilemmas of Middle Earth are much more compelling, and the good guys win. And, yeah, my Sangria is chilled. (On sale for $5.99 a gallon at Jewel.)

THUMP PUT THAT GREASY FAT BURGER DOWN! Now where was I, oh, ABM, man! But I'm truely trying to understand but I ask your help, do you feel that our wish to be left alone in our house has any validity. Can you admit that there's a time and place for individuals to do that race thang. All we are saying is Welcome ol'white Joe, sit your ass down and don't say a M*&$#ing thang about race this and we that, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE. And when the day ends we can walk over to the local town hall and talk all the s*^t we want to. All the lackies and blackies can go to the hall and yes sir they ass off. They can stand up and scream, you niggas better listen to what Mr. Pillsbury is talking about, cause he's trying to enlighten y'all. Then everyong can stand up and hold hands a sing out loud, "old black joe, he's a neg-ga row". Really though, your points are well taken but in this house they don't know the rules so why waste time telling them that they steppin' on folks feet, when we don't have to. It's simple, if we had time to stop them before they go on a roll then hey, lets F*&k. But man......

" it's only right to do onto others as we would have them do us" "we need to set an example of love and understanding"....quick, who said that?

Answer: Some tired ass Negro sniffin' up Amy's Ass.

Thumper (& Carey),

I hear you. But who's about "looking to White foks". Dude. In almost every other thing I have posted here for weeks I have (to the point of mental exhaustion) BLARED the importance of Blacks become more self-supporting. I will continue to do that. But jus' cuz some White chick shows up at our door, we s'spose to get so discombobulated that we loose our sense of reason and independence?

I just don't get that.

I don't EVER expect White People as a whole to change without being forced to via what WE do for our own selves. But I do judge individuals individually. So, again, if some White person has something to offer that is mutually beneficial, especially something that might permit me to more effectively compete with him, I may indulge. And let's face it: Smart Black foks do that all the livelong day. So let's stop pretending otherwise.

So, yeah. You right. It don't make much sense to "wait" for the Devil to slip up and give me the means of his destruction. But I tell what. If I do catch ol' boy napping, you can bet I'm gonna take what he's got lyin' around and wear his devilish @$$ out with it!

And I agree that a war must be fought on many fronts. But I hope that is not intended to be an intelligence/espionage division. Because if what we are talking about here is intended to be of such high racial privilege and secrecy, I think you are going to have to install a tuffer security system than you already have in place.

For all we know, half the people who visit and even POST here could be Caucasian. And it is for THAT reason as much as any other, we should focus on the relative merits of WHAT'S being said and not WHO'S saying it.

I don't see the contradiction you apparently allude to. You can't think I meant we should hire/fire other Blacks to the complete/utter exclusion of others. To me, that makes about as little sense as saying only Black foks should read/respond to a FREE/OPEN website. But, obviously, I figure brothah/sistahs will be more inclined to employ more brothahs/sistahs than will others.

And no successful race/creed of people can operate completely exclusive of others. The world just isn't set-up for that to work anymore. Whites hire Hispanics. Jews hire gentiles. What's important is whether one maintains a sense of obligation/priority to themselves and their kind.

PS: Man, I am glad you're back! Though do me a favor. Please DON'T tell my wife/kids I hid that extra slab of ribs I just finished cooking in our basement fridge. Just wanna keep a lil' snacky snack for when they are not around. :-)

Cynique,

Try not to be so "cynical" (guess you can't help that, though, huh? :-)). Because the fact that we all are belaboring this discussion is proof that we ALL want more than what exists now. We just have differing views on how to get there.

And girl, what I told you 'bout drinkin' dat cheap wine. You bettah keep a barf bag handy.

Hello All,

ABM: Ain't nobody lost their senses just because Moonsign showed up. You still ain't picking up what I'm putting down. So, I'm going to try this one more time for the people in the back: I'm not tripping over Moonsigns appearance or her posting. The problem you're having is that you easily forgive her misstep that the rest of us ain't. I don't have a problem with the crusp of her post. I got the point she was trying to make. If you go back and read my first post when I came back to the site, I said so. I didn't like her illustrations that she used to make her point. That's what I said and that's what I meant. I don't see any room there for misinterpretation.

I'm a firm believer that "a word to the wise is sufficient." Now a good idea is a good idea. I will use it. Hence, the reason why I got money tied up in all kinds of investments, remodeling my house, damn near anything else that will tickle my fancy; I will and have jumped on good ideas and suggestions. I would be a fool not to, and I assure you I am not foolish. So why you're trying to go there with that, I don't know.

That being said, I'm also not breaking my neck to get into a big ol house out in Boondock, Egypt cause I'm scared of my own people back in the hood. I can also talk standard English, in my natural voice, without going nasal or clipping the ends of my words with a sword. And if anyone step to me wrong be he black or white, no matter his/her position, I will go straight-black-man on 'em, and still keep my job. I'm not talking about a high security thing. Come on dawg. What I am talking about is not being ashamed of being black nor where we come from or being scared of each other or reaching back and helping each other out THAT's what I'm talking about.

You wrote: "For all we know, half the people who visit and even POST here could be Caucasian. And it is for THAT reason as much as any other, we should focus on the relative merits of WHAT'S being said and not WHO'S saying it."

Well, I do know, and have known for years, not quite half, but a whole lot of folks that visit the site and discussion board ARE white. *LOL* And I'll clue you in on something else (taking a small detour), a lot of teachers and students (grade school through high school) visit the discussion board and site as well. So, all that sexual flirting and stuff you and others are doing is going straight into some classrooms, which is why I wanted it all to come to a stop. While this is a free forum, we all should be careful as to what we say and how we say it. I don't know if your daughters read this board, but I can assure you that other poeple daughters are reading it. What kind of role model are you and others setting? I know this was off the subject, but I couldn't help myself.

Back to the post: I'm not saying that we should totally isolate ourselves. But hell man, there is nothing wrong with having a place where you can just BE.

You wrote: "Whites hire Hispanics. Jews hire gentiles. What's important is whether one maintains a sense of obligation/priority to themselves and their kind." Exactly right.

I agree that we are more in sync than out. You just need to fine tune your thinking a little and you'll be as good as gold. *smile*

It's .NOT .ABOUT .disliking her ......Say it again Thump, "there nothing wrong with having a place where you can just BE. That's right, there might be others out there reading the board that are white, in fact I have invited several. However, everyone knows that whenever there's a group of blacks being .....just being, and a few whites step into the light ( I hate to say this but) some of those in the group are going to "be" different. We all know what I'm talking about. Some are going to immediately start talking differently. Some are going to feel as if they have to "protect" the white individuals. Others are going to muffle their view. Come on now, you know I'm telling the straight up truth. All sorts of behavior will jump right out of them. So if Mr. Beirch, is out there, fine, we need that. But considering the restraints of this medium we can't afford the monkey dance up in here. Somebody is at the door...gotta go.

Moonsigns...here is my reply to your last post on the OTHER thread that's gotten to long.

************

Moonsigns...I believe you.

And please forgive me for ranting and gossiping about IR other people and situations.

I think it's a good thing that you're here and that you're going through this experience...baptism by fire.

I truly like you and I think that if you lived around here (in my Cali community)..you and I and our men would be close friends and I don't think I would have to worry about your kids asking my sons----"Why is your hair like that?"

You sound as though you are really TRYING to bridge these social problems and deal honestly with the realities of race and color.

I sense a lot of sincerity in you (and sensitivity) and I believe that in time...people at aalbc.com could come to trust you and KNOW YOUR PERSONALITY to the point where certain language you've used wouldn't offend them at all.

Carey is a sweet man and LAMBD will befriend you if I promise him that you and I will use that Victoria's Secret Card and then TEAM UP ON HIM (I'm just kidding!!!). And of course, I love ABM and know him extremely well, and I am jealous of any women here enjoying his attention, his favor and his support. To me--he's my cyber boyfriend. Although, he's disowned me (without explanation) recently.

Moonsigns....I absolutely LOOOOOOOVE Teena Marie (who I recently met at a small lunch gathering)--so I do know that there's some really cool white women who hang in the black community and date black men and who are good people.

I'm not hating on you. I feel love for you.

Thumper/Carey,

Thanks for your responses. I think I better appreciate where you are coming from. And I hope you feel the same.

I understand your point about some of us possibly being cowed into not "being ourselves". I doubt that you and I would succumb to such. But I imagine others might, though I certainly hope that they would not.

And Thumper, the sex stuff is a bit excessive. It is sort of an kneejerk 'inclination' of mine I will endeavor to curb.

okay. so, the fall semester just started, and i am once again completely ensconced in the clueless, white academy at my college. there's the backdrop. the chancellor, who is af-am, asks a few of us to review some books to use in the freshman lit curriculum. no problem. but two of the books are slave narratives: frederick douglass and harriet jacobs, incidents in the life of a slave girl.

of course, i read douglass back in high school. but this incidents by harriet jacobs has just been edited and contexturalized, so much of it was new to me.

any how, what i am getting at is this: reading page after page of a slave narrative has been so taxing, maddening, and infuriating, that now i don't know how in the world i will face the pale-faced faculty at my college with reco's on the freshman curriculum.

on the one hand, i do know that it's worthwhile for students, of all races, to read about some first hand experiences of slavery. on the other hand, i am so FURIOUS after reading them that it is difficult for me to look this white faculty in the eye without... i don't know. really disliking and mistrusting them.

yet, as one of the few dark faces in this faculty, i am encouraged to act as a bridge between this white faculty and... the rest of the world. which is completely worthwhile. but the thing is, the conversations are maddening and infuriating.

imagine sitting in a room of 150 people, where you can count the people of color on one hand-- literally. and explaining that one thing we need to do is to hire diverse faculty. and having old white women looking at you with puzzled expressions, as if to say, "is there something wrong with the balance in here? i never noticed."

gonna make me lose my mind up in here! just venting.... i feel better now! :-)

Why emerse yourself in the angst of white academia, Bluefreezy? Why not seek a position on the faculty of a black college and give the students there the benefit of your professional expertise? If your answer to this question has to do with money, then suck it in, babe.

ABM, okay man, I really do dislike going there. I laid out of this one for a long time but you know I consider this place a part of me. Really, those that have been around knows why that is. It's Thumps house but I have a key, if you know what I mean. This place gives us an oppurtunity to laugh and flirt and just hang out. We learn here. We exchange ideas and sometimes recipes. Yes sir, I've let out some of my biggest laughs after reading something on this board and on the other hand I've shared some tears. Yes, it's merely a machine, a distant place somewhere over the rainbow BUT it brings me joy. I've met several authors on this block, I've run into a guy that goes by the board name of ABM, whom I think is a hellava guy. I am jealous of his vocabulary skills. So see, none of this would have been possible if this "thang" was not here. And so when I witness something that threatens the "natural" flow I am concerned. As I said, I ain't trying to stop anyone from visiting this site. I only hope they respect us and it. If they don't know how to do that, they should take a seat and simply enjoy. Because like Thump said, if they don't know us by now............

It takes a man to stand in front of the world and say (your last post) those words. Rarely do we witness such. The tendency of most is to win or to be popular, rebutting (sp?) in a vague and ambigious way including everyones view. But my man, you stood up, that's big. Thanks for taking it easy on the ol'man. I do have to admit that I get a special kind of joy out of sometimes showing my ass, so thanks for letting me moon you *lol*.

and btw, I still think I can beat you in a foot race. Nobody as smart as you could possibly be swift of foot :-).

Damn, now if A_women even gets her mouth anywhere near fixed to say something remotely simular to that ( ABM's post)I'm going to call the undertaker, my job is over :-).

AMEN Thumper. So, so so so true.

Carey,

I don't think you wanna race me.

Actually, I am a fine (though of course aging) athlete. I ran sprints and played defensive back in high school. I was my football's team "cover corner". My coach tried to get me to continue playing ball at a small college. But I never wanted to risk serious injury.

In fact, I was so fast as a kid, my older cousin would win cash bets on my racing others, some of which were bigger/older than me.

And at one point, I could jump so high, friends of mine would call me "The Dr." (ala "Dr. J.").

So you can't judge a 'nerd' by his cover. :-)

And while you are singing that ol familiar spiritual about "what black folks need to do", a-womon, has it occurred to you why the psyches of black people have never merged into a common mentality? Because one of the characteristics of this "culture" that you speak of is its diversity. The black "race" is not a monolith. The black experience varies from person-to-person from area-to-area. The one thing blacks have in common is that at some point they will all encounter various degrees of racism. But this fact of life is apparently not enough to bring them together because too many individuals have gotten ahead by learning how to play the game, adopting the "I-got-mine-and-you-need-to-do-what- it-takes-for-you-to-get-yours" mindset. Altruism really doesn't thrive among the denizens of a materialistic society. So, for the past hundred years there have been people standing around, saying if black folks would just do this, or if our people would just do that, then we could make it! There have been caucauses and conferences and alliances. But the Utopian dream of a black Xanadu always stumbles because America is geared toward individualism. It never really concerns itself with fulfilling the needs of the masses. This is a Capitalistic country controlled by a few big corporations and their subsidiaries and this privileged class accumulates wealth by not sharing it. America is a nation where the "haves" need the "have-nots" in order to maintain the status quo. But if you with all of your fiery 23-year-old dedication can convince all of those millionaire Hip-hoppers to come together and give more than lip-service and charitable tax write-offs to the hoods, maybe there would be a blip in the economic radar. And, I do have to give the Rappers their props for helping to keep all of the bootie-shakin' skanks in their videos out of the unemployment lines.

Cynique:

First of all you need to reread who authored the peace I quoted from. I think you'll find that Thumper is the author, I merely WHOLEHEARTEDLY AGREE with it. So if you have a problem with it, direct your comments to HIM.

In the meanwhile, though, since you chose to come at me with that, I will address your post later, right now Im on my way out the door to enjoy some Bar-b-Q!

Happy Holiday EVERYONE

Hey! Why not take it easy on the ol' foks cynicism? Kids like A_womon are just as entitled to believe that things will get better for Black foks as a youthful Cynique was...during Reconstruction.

Cynique,

I was just kidding.

Being a "cynic" and being a "realist" are NOT mutually-exclusive character traits. They are often just different degrees and/interpretations of the same mindset.

But I do think we ol' foks often seem to enjoy raining on the parades of the young. What would we have an A_womon do, anyway? Just completely relent and sell-out to the status quo, and, become, to quote "Pink Floyd", "...justa anothah brick in the wall."?

wysteria,

There is no need to apologize for your feelings about the IR couples you seem to encounter (more often than not). I have some horror stories as well --horror stories --pretty sad stuff! Unfortunately, it continues the circle of racism/colorism that is so determential to humanity. On the flip side, I have had the opportunity to encounter IR couples (regardless of the paring) who are intelligent, loving, kind and socially aware. That has given me the ability to trust that there are sane, God-fearing people left in the world. That is the hope I hold onto. Again, the former will only bring death to the spiritual and physical. I think it is natural to be angry when you go through situations like this. It has the potential to make one become just as ignorant and evil as the perpetrators. However, this is the point where people, including myself, have to strive for a different way of handling these situations. The journey is a difficult one, as well as very personal.

I'm sure we would get along, as would our significant others. Although we have traveled very different roads, what you want for your family is the very same thing I want for mine --strong sense of self and the opportunity to achieve their full potential in all areas of life.

You are right in that I'm being sincere and that I'm extremely sensitive. I have no idea how long I will stick around. I will allow time to unfold naturally and I will listen and honor my intuition. It is good being here though. It always give me good "food for thought" and to learn/respect the experiences that are not my own.

Lambd is no way into "moonpies" *LOL*, I did like to mess with him though (all good natured). I'm sure glad you were just kidding about the Victoria Secret thing --too much for me! I don't like you that much! :-)
Your description of him is quite intriguing though. I sometimes wonder what people look like, like does their personality match their looks --just the intrigue of the unknown. The way you described him is somewhat how I imagined him, other than you said he is (paraphrasing) "football body". I thought him to be much thinner.
That is Cynique's 'lil lambd, right Cynique? *wink, wink* I know, tell me to shutup already! :-)
I never felt I was getting Abm's attention. We just enjoyed sharing an inspiration vibe and expressing that through written word. It is fun to meet people like that. Whatever is between you both, is truly none of my business.

Glad you met Teena Marie. I have read/heard other people saying the very same thing about her.
While there are plenty of white women in the world who are nuts, there are plenty that aren't. I don't view myself as someone who "hangs in the black community", but someone who has been taught to appreciate people of all races, cultures and religions. God made this world too big and diverse, not to.

Peace!

At this point, Abm, I suggest a-womon ignore me. Any regular on this board knows that every 6 months or so, I go through that long litany I just posted. It's nothing new. Yukio usually takes me on but he's on sabbatical now. So what can I say? Keep hope alive. Now that I know young school kids are visiting this site, I really feel inhibited, lest I come across like an ogre or a vamp. Just as well, I need a little break.

LAMBD is about 6'3. Muscular but husky. Light chocolate colored with...mudd brown celestial eyes like a baby lion's. His lips are very sexy and his face is handsome, but not unapproachable or intimidating. I'm trying to think of someone famous that he resembles but I can't think of anyone. He does look like a football player to me.

He came to my event "early" and I was strolling through the auditorium with my ladies in waiting fixing the place up...and I asked him, "What are you doing here by yourself? Are you here to see KB?"

And he said, in a droll voice (reading my new book intensly!!!), "I sure am."

And he looked up at me as I was approaching--realizing that I must be her---and he stood up

And I glided over to him smiling and said, "Good...'cause I'm KB."

And he said, "I'm _________ Lamb." He had his hand out for a shake...

....but I was so excited that he actually came to see me!! I ran right into his arms and he laughed and I was just grinning like crazy.

We both were impressed with each other...but I think LAMBD was kind of "overwhelmed" by my height. My LEGS are 55 inches long--so I'm ALL legs, I have a round little pow-pow bubble butt and I'm big chested (and 100% God-given)....so he started fluttering and making these funny sounds like he couldn't believe I was hugging him and kissing him (on the cheek and ear). But he was hugging me back just as hard.

OH MY GOD...the way his hands supported me in the small of my back...he is SOOOOOO masculine and strong.

And I have this giggle that I do when my "pillows" are pressed against a man's chest. I kept doing it.

And we were both DELIRIOUS!! I signed his book and promised him a FREE copy of my prior releases.

And then I went back to my dressing room (which was the size of most bookstores)...and then I came back out and did my presentation for a few hours...eventually coming off the stage and taking the microphone into the audience, because unexpectedly...I HAD CRIED SO PROFUSELY in telling the story of my life (my birth parents murder, etc.)....and the audience was so engrossed, and I think--fearful of my crying spells--- and I was just SO EMOTIONAL that day (my adoptive mother and I had appeared on the radio together and D.C. is my hometown) and I was SCARED and NERVOUS---because it was my first book event, even though I had spoken in front of a big crowd the day before at the Sudanese Embassy (where Danny Glover got arrested-----but anyway, I did most of my presentation down off the stage, in the crowd---the lighting man had the spotlight so BRIGHT in my face that I couldn't see good---but at the end of the show, I called out LAMBD and told people what it meant for me that he came and then, during the signing, I went and hugged and kissed him again. And he was gracious and sweet and just....BROTHERLY.

I had thought surely that if LAMBD actually came to see me...then he would heckle me or be rude, because very few people at aalbc.com like me. Most hate me.

And IN GENERAL...most people in the book industry would love to see me fall flat on my face and are praying for my career to fail and are either prejudiced, jealous or just plain against me....so it I was emotional, because I know how badly so many people destest that I'm in the book industry and not the Reality T.V. biz---but AMAZINGLY---none of those haters came to my event. Only the people who like me and appreciate my talent.

And LAMBD was like...family. And so kind to me.

And we were attracted to each other something AWFUL!!!

I can't wait to see him for dinner next month.

Although....GOD IN HEAVEN KNOWS....it'll be totally innocent and plutonic, because although I love flirting with men, I'm totally devoted and faithful to Thomas---and also, LAMBD is a gentleman and he's VERY intelligent and he understands that I'm a big tease who DOES NOT put out.

But it's lonely going to all these big cities by myself with just GUARDSMEN....so it's fun to unwind with a friend who knows me and who I can joke with. That's why I wanted Cynique to come to my other event---but you know people.

In my regular life, I really live ISOLATED like a housewife---I go months seeing only my kids and Thomas. And they sometimes see me as "the maid", although they don't mean to.

It's nice to dress up and go out and have guys make me FEEL younger than I am.

That's another major dilemna in my life---aging. I'm not taking it well at all.

Most literary writers come from an ACADEMIC Background--but I come from a show biz and "burlesque" background, so I'm not a normal kind of writer.

LOL

Well, that's LAMBD, Moonsigns.

I wouldn't consider myself snow-blind, a-womon. My whole world is black.(With one notable exception. Nothin like a little variety. heh-heh) But on a one-on-one basis, I feel like I owe it to my integrity to not judge INDIVIDUALS by superficial standards. And this is where the black experience comes into play, where one person's black experience is different from another's. Down through the years, in my black experience I have not only been victimized by, but have also witnessed the treachery that black folks practice against each other. In my personal black experience white folks have pretty much let me alone; just as I can take or leave them. I was not offended by Moonsigns pontificating because she is no threat to me. If I am not a black cheer leader on this board, it's because we got plenty of those, and I sometimes like to play the devil's advocate, a role I'm very comfortable in.

Cynique,

And you have every right to feel the way you do, just as I and others have a right to be "cheerleaders". I, unlike you, have both witnessed and experienced the treachery of white people and they have not left me alone.

Also, like bluefreezy, when I study the history of our
ancestors, it makes me very angry that some of us choose to pretend that it never happened. We had a holocaust visited upon our ancestors, just as the jewish people, and the Native AMericans, and others have and our history of suffering in america is no less valid than any of the former. And it doesn't make me wrong or anything else because I choose to aknowledge it as such.

It has nothing to do with my integrity or anyone being a threat to me, it is a matter of honor and respect as I see it.
In my own arena, I owe no one anything but what they show me, I don't owe them extra respect, and I don't even owe them the benefit of the doubt.
So you and I will have to remain at odds on matters of race, but as I said before, I am fine with that.

Cynique, you make a good point about not feeling..."threatened"... by Moonsigns's presence.

That's my feeling too.

I totally agree with A_Womon's complaint that Moonsigns made "racist comments" and was out of line. I also totally understand why A_Womon can't stand the woman and doesn't want to be bothered with her. But that's her perogative.

And I'm certain...that there's no one here more PRO-Black than I am, more nationlistic or a bigger promoter of black love and liberation for black people...especially since the HOLOCAUST that is going on right now, is going on in MY homeland and has caused quite a bit of tragedy and trauma in my own personal life.

But at the same time---I never felt this matter as seriously or as deeply as A_Womon did.

I have always said it on this board, that when someone tells you the TRUTH about what they think or feel (whether you like it or not)....take it as a gift.

And I appreciate and prefer "the truth" from a person, rather than a mask or a Politically Correct position. I like it that Moonsigns is straight up.

Definitely.... my loyalty is with A_Womon because she's a fellow black woman and because I trust her more and I believe that she would understand my experience in life more....but I still find it hard to be really riled or angry with Moonsigns or to dislike her...just because others do.

I said my piece to Moonsigns...explicitly, unedited....and I felt that she understood where I was coming from.

I think LAMBD did the same thing. He made his self clear, that to him she's a "racist" (and even added that he likes Moonsigns, because she's controversial).... and Moonsigns knows her boundaries with him now.

And of course...as some of us get "OLDER" (like you and I)....we tend to pick our battles much more carefully and really have a greater capacity of understanding and tolerance for other people--even people we don't like. I think that has also been a factor here.

Sometimes you get tired of fighting with people over small potatoes. It's stressful.

Yes, Moonsigns. LAMBD is a wonderful guy and he and I are going to be very good friends--just like sister and brother.

And yes, I was trying to flatter him on purpose.

But he IS gorgeous---and how did you know I was on a LOW CARB diet? LOL

It nearly killed me (I'm a professional cook). I had to go back to carbs and just walk 5 miles 3 nights a week instead.

I agree with you A_Woman.I recently switched jobs and I find myself facing racism everyday.I am the only african american and their is only one other woman. In fact I am the first African American to ever work at that place. When I first took the job i heard the word colored alot.Needless to say I had to learn even at my age how to put them in their place without being the b***h that I have earned in my line of work.I also know that many people don't want to see me succeed. So every day I have to do more than my co-workers.But don't get me wrong I also have encounterd rasicm from my own people who smile in my face but in reality I can see they wish me h***.Rasicm comes from all sides sistah as a black woman we just have to know how to fight with our brains and never letem see you weak.

A_womon,

If you truly are interesting in furthering the best interests of Black people, you will consider doing the following:

Learn.

Grow.

Prosper.

Marry a kind, generous and productive man.

Birth, nurse and raise healthy/happy children.

Build lucrative and socially-conscious businesses/associations.

And help other Black people to enjoy those opportunities as well.

If you manage to accomplish those things, I wager the designs of a Moonsigns, whatever they may be, will be of minor consequence to you.

SOA: Racism comes from all sides sistah as a black woman we just have to know how to fight with our brains and never letem see you weak.

Yes I feel you on the "never letem see you weak":-)
Thanks for the words of wisdom. And by the way, where you been? Glad to have you back!

MissW:but I still find it hard to be really riled or angry with Moonsigns or to dislike her...just because others do.
That was never my intention, as I have said before, anyone is free to engage her if they like, I choose not to and that is ok I have no problem with anyone as long as they don't offend me or try to step to me with some off the wall BS.

ABM: Now you have made me smile for the first time in a while! :-) I am DEFINITELY with those building blocks that you put down. They make a lot of sense! Especially this one:

Build lucrative and socially-conscious businesses/associations

It is my earnest desire to do this on the real! I hope I can one day own my own corporation! I think it is DEFINITELY possible. Thank You.

Lambd: regarding your last post on another thread I HEAR YOU and I am definitely with that, you are not alone on that, trust and believe!

One thing I hope for all of us regular posters is no matter which side we end up on in this race thing, I hope that we can remember who we are and not let this cause a schism on this board, or in any way impede our ability to express our true and honest thoughts on ANY subject we choose.

Peace out!

A_woman ty for the welcome back girl I had to take the time off decide if I really wanted this job change and I took some time off to go on a mini vacation with my husband it was cool.Didnt get much reading done if you know what I mean*wink*.Any way I guess I am just not so forgiving cause I have been reading some of this garbage that moon has been spewing and I feel like I have been took back in time 100 years ago.I didnt know people still felt that way all over the world.Like I said it here in Arkansas where I'm from but I guess I am naive cause I never knew this kind of racism still exsit. And justfor the record because you are married to a brotha does not mean you are not a racist.Cause from what I have read the mistress at the big house still loved to get down with the brothas.

A-womon, it never ceases to amaze me how everybody misunderstands everybody else on this board. I never said anybody owes me anything! Why would I make that foolish statement??? I said what I owe myself. And citing your particular circumstances proves nothing except what I did say, and that is that everybody has a different black experience! Jeeze. BTW, Have you ever considered moving to Canada or even Africa since you are so dissatisfied with the racist conditions in America? You know, of course, that you can't change them. I'd like to go into exile because I hate America's fascist government but I'd miss all the amenities of home.

Come on CYN-CYN, now you know that's a straight-up lines from Brent's handbook, shame on you. We fall out with our mates but does that mean we should leave? You and my sidekick just can't seem to let it go. Actually I've seen her grow, she has mellowed to you or at least at times have given you the benefit of doubt. You on the other hand continue to snipe and misquote. Give the women some props when it's due. You'll find that she's open for change.

Cynique,

You have Got to be one lonely old lady to keep coming up with the straight up BS that you do! Back to Africa? I wouldn't mind. As long as you move to SOUTH AFRiCA first! You would fit right in with all of your lets lift white people higher ideas! Your eyes must be going bad TOO. Because I believe I said that I DON'T Owe, not you! So you can take your white is better attitude and go THAT WAY! Now is that plain enough for you?
Maybe its YOU who's not satisfied. Here's an idea for you, why don't I write Michael Jackson for you and ask him to send you his recipe for skin bleaching and hair straightening, then it will be that much easier for you to belong and you can stop all your fantasizing about white people and just become one on the outside. Cuz you are damn sure already one on the inside!
You just have to keep that "house nigger" mentality alive, don't you? And if you don't know what that is, I will be MORE than happy to spell it out for you later! Now you have been picking with me since AMY landed on this board and looking for an excuse to do battle with me, you just won't leave it alone. So ok, BRING IT ON!
Now how bout that?

Feel better now that you've got it all out of your system, baby girl? It's a wonder you don't have a stroke. LOL And I really find it amusing that YOU consider yourself a victim who is being picked on by ANYBODY. Wheeee.
So, anyway, I don't want to go to Africa. I want to go to a South Sea Island. I was serious about wanting to go in exile. I'm sick of this fascistic country and the idea of George Bush being re-elected. How about you? Lonely ol woman? Gimme a break. With 5 kids and 7 grandchildren, I have so many people in my space that I have to go into retreat and hang out at Thumper's corner to escape them. You're REALLY the one who needs to get life, and you certainly could benefit from acquiring a sense of humor.( and probably a good lay.) As for my response to the piece written by Thumper, I stand by it. Thumper and I are no strangers to disagreement. And as for Viggo, (sigh) nobody knows better than I how foolish that fantasy is. But at least I can admit my folly. House nigga? Could be. Who knows. And who cares. How to classify you? You don't want to hear.

Boy! The catfights sure start early 'round hur.

It's just the first day back to work, and we already have Cynique and A_womon referring to each other views as being in the range of everything from being "foolish" to "BS". A_womon delivers a sharp body-blow with the ever-reliable "house n@&&*%". But Cynique counters with the equally trusty ol' "you need to get you 'sum' " jab (BTW: For those who are interested, this is where I would normally insert a come-on involving me, Cynique and A_womon. But, Thumper, I abstain.).

And our favorite racebaiting catalyst Moonsigns ain't even nowhere in sight. Imagine that.

But I guess it is like a great aunt of mine used to say about White foks: "Eww! Boy! Make sure you spray aftah dey leave. Cuz dah smell uh'em lingahs."

Come on now CYN-CYN, I do not have a beef with you. You know I am gernerally on the side of the issue I support and you've seen me take A_Women over my knee. Yeah, she squawks back but nothing of the low blow varity that you seem to embrace. That fine, we know where we've been.......okay. Check out the exchanges between ABM and me. He might throw me a little curve and I might lay down a bunt and try to make it to first. I stand on the bag and we get close and spit in each others face. When it's time for another batter we tip our hat and move on. Ladies seem to hold on to things for some time, why is that?

Carey,

Man. You should know by now that, unlike men, women don't argue for resolution. They argue for the pure and utter sport of it. That’s why, like Chris Rock says, men can NEVER really win an argument against them. We simply like that kind of stamina.

Carey,

I recall reading that in an equivalent set of circumstance, men will utter 10,000 words per day. Women speak 39,000 (for the math-challenged...that's almost FOUR TIMES that of men!).

So you've gottah understand. Arguing simply provides for women ample fodder for what women enjoy most doing...talking.

That's why Moonsigns and A_womon can't give it up. Frankly, their ongoing row has been just too damn fun for the both of'em to let go.

Hello All,

Ah damn, what a tease. I thought the old Cynique was about to make her appearance after being gone for so long. I was about to sing the melody of Hello Dolly, this one being Hello Cynique. Ahh, those were the good ol days. True enough she got on my nerves at that time, but I miss the old Cynique now. "You don't miss the water till the well run dry". No truer words have been spoken. You know, I wish I could conjure up one of those fantasy debates between the old Cynique and A_womon. A_womon, you would not have stood a chance! You would have been picking up the pieces of your cracked face for a week. It got so bad that when Cynique stepped into the room, the whole discussion board cleared out! Remember those days Carey? Now while others like to think that they were all that, they wasn't.

Cynique, can you let the old Cynique come out and play? For just a little while? Ppppllleeeaaassseee.

But I just want to know one thing though? Why are you so anxious to see me broke? What happened to all of that BLACK peace and unity you was spoutin earlier??? Just words, hunh? This right here is one of the reasons it will NEVER BE!

WELL Like I have said many times before, BRING IT ON CAUSE I AINT NEVAH SCARED! It's hard to do battle when you aint got beef, but NOT IMPOSSIBLE.

Thumper,

I think I might haftah roll with A_womon on dis one. I certainly would have agreed with you a couple years back. Cynique was so deliciously evil then she could give you a wedgey with a single sentence. But I think she's lost the eye of the Tigress some time ago and have yet to regain it.

I think may us guys have dulled her edge a bit. Maybe if there were more A_womon's spouting off 'round here, maybe the ol' Cynique will ascend from her protracted state of listlessness!

Thump, I don't know man, both of them have their own unique ways. Sure I remember, ask Linda.....opps, I didn't mean to stir the pot. Of course Cynique has the advandage of age and wisdom on ol'girl, however A_women will bring along raw emotion . Cynique has seen it all and might have had the staring role but like a boxer in his waning years it could be difficult for her to feel streathened by the new girl on the block. Just like the old Sonny Liston and the young Casius Clay, some thought Clay wouldn't last 2 rounds. We all know how that one turned out. The raw swift, yet rough edged Clay evolved into a polished champion. So the question remains, age and wisdom or youth and booty.....I mean beauty, youth and beauty, what shall it be.

As the great judge turned ring ref used to say, "Let's get it on".

Hey ABM, think we could sell this and make a little sometin'? We'd better ask Thump first. YEAH, I can see the marque now, "Come to Thump's to see the Rumps, the best show in town".

Think of it! Man, my palms are sweeting already from just thinking about all the loot we are going to pull.

I can hear the instruction given to the combatants in the center of the ring,...." Okay you two, I've given you instrutions in the locker room but I want you to remember, no calling each other Bit*&#es or saying you slept with her ol'man last night.........you can't pull out a can of mace or a pistol and you sure can't hit the other in her sack cause if you did we would have to call an end to the whole thang because.....well, if you got a sack something's wrong. Okay, let's get ready to rumble.......pssst hey A_women could you tell your corner to turn down that music and put out those blunts, thanks".

What do you think Thump? Old against the new......hair verses weave, Guts against ........Gut :-).

Man, this could be the event of a lifetime.......The Throwdown by the Lowdowns!

Carey.

That was HILARIOUS!

You may be right. A_womon appears more than capable of compensating for what she lacks in experience with energy and relentless will.

Plus, I think, in a crunch, she'd cheat. And I once heard a great major league hitter quipped that "If you ain't cheatin', you ain't tryin'."

However, I doubt that Cynique's sense of smug self-righteousness would permit her to lower her self to that level.

So maybe Young Stuff would deck Mama Cee late in the ninth.

But it would be a fine 'bout. So yeah, maybe we should get together and divvy up the prize money and determine what the split on the gate and Satillite TV receipts will be.

Dey lets me live in peace in my all-black neighborhood dat is located in my mostly black town, and dey don't counts demselves among my friends. My good Massa Sam send me a pension check every month from my days as a slave at the US Post Office. If it wasn't da old scamp George Bush, I'd be content. Now all yall scandalous yard niggas and field niggas just let me be. I's fascinated with Moonsigns cuz she's novelty to me. If a-womon wants to take over myh old raggedy mantel, you bucks can bestow it on her. Cus I'se tired. Dont forget now y'all are here for Missy Cynique's amusement, I ain't here for yours.
Seriously I don't really care what anybody thinks of me. I'm kind burnt out. That why I fessed up to being a nana with golden brown hair courtesy of Miss Clairol. Viggo, call me, babe.

Thumper, let me back-track a minute. Thanks for the little "tribute". It was sweet especially because it came from my old adversary. Thank you, too, Carey, for your empathy. This may really be my swan song this time cuz I been bad again. Blew off Lauryn Hill. Right, Abm?

Cynique,

Don't worry.

Because I agree with you about Lauryn Hill. She's okay. But the 'legend' of Lauryn is still very much in its developmental stages.

Can you believe Miss_wysteria tried to give her props over Nina Simone and CHAKA ["The Power of GOD on Earth"] KHAN?

I damn near swallowed my tongue.

Miss_wys' must be close friends of Hill or something.

YOU...obviously don't listen to Lauryn Hill.

While Chaka can outsing Lauryn...I've got all her albums and the "lyricism" and "message" is truly SPOTTY when one compares any 1 of her collections to just the two Lauryn put out.

As for Nina Simone...she simply wasn't allowed to say in her entire career...what Lauryn got away with saying in one CD.

I'm sorry. But it's a black woman thang. You wouldn't understand.

In fact--make than an "authentic" black woman thang.

And Lauryn writes and produces and is a much better songwriter than WYCLEF JEAN, thank you very much. He's not even the second rate version of Curtis Mayfield that he's shooting for yet.

I've never been excited about any artist since I been in the U.S. as I am about Lauryn Hill.

She gives me HOPE.

Don't even respond ABM.

Cynique SAYS:

Here we go with opinions being stated as fact and hissy fits becoming the order of the day. De ja vu all over again. yawnnn.

I SAY:

Yes it's de ja vu....because it's what Cynique has ALWAYS done.

And since none of us can stop others from expressing themselves the way inwhich THEY express themselves...then perhaps we should just not read people's post if we GENERALLY don't ever like what they have to say.

Cynique,

You are right. There really should be no quarrel between myself and Miss_wysteria because neither of us is right or wrong per se. We just (apparently) skew our assessment of music based on what is most important to us.

I am from a family of musical composers. So I tend to focus on the melody/harmony/rhythm of instrument and vocal tonality 1st, then consider the specific of lyrics. But M_W is more a social activist and freedom fighter. So she seems more apt to consider the message to be of paramount import.

But thanks for being the voice of reason here, as you often are (...though it pi$$e$ me the f@#$ off at times...hehe!)

Miss_wysteria,

I have a tendency to allow my background unfairly bias my opinions about music. It was hubris on my part to slight Lauryn Hill in your eyes.

Thus, I apologize.

And please know that because what Hill does is important to you, it is also important to me. :-)

Ladies,

Please do not quarrel. But if you must, please pre-warn me, so I can get all the necessary accoutrements (e.g., beer, popcorn, pizza, wet-naps, etc.)

Cynique,

Naw! You just like me. If we aint' scuffling with anybody, we don't quite feel appreciated. I think the medical community calls it 'compulsive smart@$$ syndrome'.

But stay away from the cheap/gut-rotting sangria dreck (for Jimney Cricket sake!) you been drinking lately. I know the Lambd/Miss_w' revelations hit you kinda hard. But doesn't mean you should drown away your sorrows in cheap booze.

'Sides. I hear Chris (door #2) finally scored a grip of your favorite 'blue pills'. But he had to get'em from Canada. So I hope they're okay.

Lambd LOOOVES Cynique more than he could ever care for me.

And I really like Cynique too--it's "HER" who can't stand me and has never accepted me. She always picks at me until I'm forced to scratch her ass back.

We both adore Cynique and there's nothing at all between me and Lambd, ABM. Notice how he stopped coming around because I'm here?

But I am going to take him out to dinner next time they send me home to D.C.--just as pals.

MW: Cynique and I are 'cyberpals'. Nothing more. She has made that quite clear on a number of occasions.

In real life relationships, people go out to dinner all the time. As pals or otherwise. If you want to share a meal as pals that's cool. If you want to rub those gigantamelons on me thats cool. If you only want to tease me with that tight basketball you got wiggling around behind you, that's cool too. I'm game for any and everything.

If my celestial eyes force you to 'put out', I'm really cool with that!

If you can't stomach any of that, I will attempt to go on living... It'll be hard, though. heheh!

As far as coming around, there are some pressing issues at work that have been taking up a great deal of my time.

Cynique, don't mind Abm. Aint nothin' wrong wit cheap booze. But when I come to Chi-town, I'll turn you on to some betta drink. Something that'll chill yo azz out so you won't be so cranky when you come up in here.

Abm and Wysteria are kinda lettin their imaginations carry them away, aren't they Lambd? The idea that I could influence who you can respond to on the board or see in real life is rather silly.
As for my cheap wine, Sangria has always been the drink of choice for loft-dwelling Bohemians, which is what I'd be if I could swing it.

Wiss,

Don't take things personally. You are but a unwitting (but luscious) pawn in a dominant-submissive game between Cynique and Lambd. Cynique will soon have used the (the hapless) to her malevolent likings then discarded him as she would rodent droppings.

Then, maybe you can have dibs on him (though I doubt you will want what's left of him...hehe!).

What you said in your post was really a low blow, Abm; even for you. You need to stop concocting make-believe scenarios and get in touch with reality. And the reality is, is that Lambd is a strong brother who shouldn't be the object of your cruel attempt at emasculating and ridiculing him. And you certainly give me far too much credit when it comes to feminine wiles. Lambd and I both have things in perspective, and you'd do well to clear up your foggy perception.
