Has anyone tried to post to the new "AALBC.com - Off The Record"? I have. Apparently I have been blocked (maybe I am 'unworthy' of such a blessed honor).
Though I find it interesting that Liberti would invite people to "stir up controversy" and "gossip" about the "juicy" bits of other people's private business yet admonish them from "name calling" and "threats"? I don't know. But it seem to me 1 of 2 things will actually occur: A) This will be a boringly pedestrian site, or B) For this concept to work, she might have to allow (at least a wee bit of) invitations to "kiss...parts of the body".
Well, I hope that Thumper (in his infinite wisdom) or OTR's moderator Liberti grants me license to post there.

BTW: I find it interesting (and I little tacky) that the VERY FIRST literary personality Liberti mentions on her site is someone that is so reviled by Thumper that he banished her from posting on the entire "Thumper's Corner Discussion Board".

Yeah, I can't help finding it to be a bit of a - to use my childhood vernacular - "punk move", to run someone down that you have disallowed the courtesy to defend themselves.
Also. I am as much an advocate of Google as you will find. But even that mighty search engine is not 'omniscent'. I have discovered MANY info/sites/links on the web that did not reveal themselves via a google search. So not only is the point Liberti attempts to make tacky, it is intellectually fallacious. |

Here is a response from Door of Kush about the attack on Kola's credibility.

Cornel Chesney is an associate of Stevie Wonder's radio station KJLH in Los Angeles. His complete contact information is listed below.
Mr. Chesney started Door of Kush Publishing...expressly to publish Kola Boof after sensational appearances she made on the radio station and the public reaction to those appearances. It should be noted that Ms. Boof's previous publisher was firebombed for publishing her books. Hence, the lack of company protocol and Mr. Chesney declining to use his real name. However, Troy Johnson, owner of aalbc.com has a tape recording of the radio interview inwhich Cornel Chesney offered (on air) to publish Ms. Boof's works.
Kate Wilson is the publicist for Kola Boof. She resides in Beverly Hills. No one at Door of Kush stated that Ms. Wilson worked for the University of D.C.....a "poster" on this board did so, inaccurately.
The Govenor's Art Gallery certainly does exist "for black folks" in Philly. Ms. Boof will appear there. The event is by "invitation only" and is not open to the public.

Folks:
The "Off The Record" Board is a bad idea.
You know I had been asking what this new board was going to be about. Somebody changed the name-
When it was posted that it was going to be a Gossip board I tried to post a message regarding Steve Barnes' and Tananarive Due's 6 month old son (with a side message asking if it was "spicy" enough and discovered that I couldn't post.
Isn't that special, I thought.
Then I read the "Yanking Your Chain" post.
This is part of a strange thing that has been going back and forth for months (maybe years) here and other places. Almost as long as whether Thumper and Troy are the same person.
Suffice it to say I don't believe that Troy would allow Kola to have a separate page on this site with links if he thought she was a phony--but who knows.
I think it would be a good idea to erase the board before things get out of hand |

I agree Chris. Lighthearted gossip is fine, if it's funny and true, everything else could be libelous. And really, I enjoy this board too much to want to see it reduced to the equivalent of National Enquires Saturday Night Wrestling. And you know it will, bc once you start throwing out innuendos and making false claims, people will come out of the wood to see blood.

Is it fair that the people aren't allowed to post rebuttals or refute the gossip?
Or especially add to it?
I'm not against the board at all. I think a Gossip board would be fun and hilarious. But the poster--Liberti--posted a lie, first of all, about a publisher, his company and tried to suggest that one of the company's authors is a "hoax". That author has been banned from this board for not agreeing with or getting along with Thumper.
Is it fair that she is banned from this board and not allowed to defend herself against such salicious gossip?
On another thread...a poster named "Ronn", a veteran poster of aalbc.com who has returned and who is obviously a fan of that author posted "incorrect" information about the author's book tour. The publisher and author were blamed for that by Liberti.
By the way. Congrats to Chris Hayden and Sisgal for landing deals with DOK. I intend to purchase both your books as soon as they're released. I'm enjoying Cynique's book right now.

Sunshine: I'm all for rebuttal and refutation.
As far as the topic--I just think that if the topic, board (I do not know how to term it, new here)is unworthy, then ultimately, you just don't engage.
Maybe I am simplifying the issue. Pardon me if I am but it seems that easy to me.
Chrishayden-what kind of trouble? And isn't one's interest their problem. And if one is so totally against something--is there a threat of interest?
I contest that one who isn't interested would not engage.
And if they should...engage--well then---let there be discussion--rebuttal and refutation-
Perhaps gossip too should be considered a legitimate form of discourse??? No?

I must say, I'm clueless as to what all of this is about. But if it involves the very devious Kola Boof then I know what to expect. I won't even waste my time trying to get on whatever site it is that all of this crap is supposed to be taking place. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Kola didn't have a "plant" on this board, someone she has put up to generating interest in her new book. She just cannot relinquish the spotlight. Yawnnn. |

First, ABM and crew, you can take my name out of your mouth. Off The Record is NOT my board, nor am I the moderator of the board. The moderator of the board is Liberti. Sorry ABM, Liberti ain't me. I don't believe in having alaises or having folks speak for me, like some people around here. I can do that all by myself. But, since you brought it up, I find it strange that although you all know how I feel about her, yet you bring her up on my board. Why is that? *eyebrow raised* Talk about a punk move.
Anyway, I digress. There is a glitch in the system. Folks are suppose to post, including subjects, fans, whoever are free to give a rebuttal. It is encouraged. As for Miss Ross, OOPS, I meant "Miss Kola"--devious or not, I love me some Bola. Her book "Flesh and the Devil" is off the chain. Have you read it?
The opening sentence is so good I put it on my refrigerator!!
I've read about 32 books since 2004 started and I put "Flesh and the Devil" in my top 3. Miss Kola has out-did herself. I don't care what nobody say.
I got an autographed copy from right here at aalbc.com on Troy's Kola Boof page.
Also, if Kola Boof is LIBERTI then I should have guessed that she was the one starting her own gossip around here. Like she always did.

No Cynique, you don't have it wrong. Like I said in my last post to you, we done seen it all and some folks think we are zip fools. I don't why Slowshine come up in here with that flimsy drag. I simply pointed out the hypocrisy of initiating/permitting gossip about someone who apparently would be preempted from defending ‘herself’. If, however, you absolve yourself of any editorial control/influence over Liberti, I will avoid relating her posts with you.
And the "punk move" comment was not specifically meant for you. But since, apparently, that comment was misapplied, I apologize to you and Liberti for that.

Liberti could at least post gossip "regularly" since she's sposed to be Rona Barrett--and she could make it more juicy and intriguing.
Who cares about somebody's publisher or a book event that isn't even scheduled until 2 months from now? I posted some real good gossip about the Author in Question. Real good.
Liberti should come correct or not come at all.
I hope she's an industry insider with some real sources and not A_Womon or some other struggling ghetto writer who just given a format to post their rants and b.s. etc.

Ahhh bluedaagoo, I think I've figured you out. It sounds like you jumped off a banana boat, swam to the nearest Salvation Army, boosted a pair of sneakers, ran down to Jew Town (Cyn-Cyn knows), coped a tray bag, zoomed up, went down to the red light district, got your freak on, woke up in a strange place watching cartoons on an old black & white TV, thought you'd lost your mind, jumped out the window butt naked, ran through someones back yard, stealin' clothe off the line on the way. Then you peeped the clothe and thought you looked like a pimp. So you called yourself huggy bear, stole some platform shoes, went to the bus station to catch some snow to put in your game but got busted on the way and ended up in jail with BIG Louie. Baby girl, baby boy, oh whatever you are this week, you got that illusion or should I say delusion of granduer thang down to a freaking science. I'm sitting here both amazed (at the sheer depth of it) and amused at the same time. Usually I am amazed and amused by your mental capacity (cause Lawd knows you ain't exactly the brightest bulb in the chandelier); your looks (which has always confused me--but hey you're the only person I know who compete in the Miss America ((for the sake of argument)), Mr. USA, and Best Show Dog in The City Kennel Association "Yeah, my dog may be ugly but he still got his own teeth" Dog Show); and now you show that you got some nerves too. I didn't know you had it in you. Why I can still remember the moment you won The Best Show Dog title 2 years ago. Remember. You was prancing around with that pink tutu on (which does nothing for you shape--but who am I to critize anyone about dog fashions) You were walking on all fours of course. And when you got in front of the judges to show that you could walk on your hind legs. With the crowd going wild and chanting He/She/IT, He/She/IT, stomping there feet in cadance. Popcorn and dog biscuits were flying all over the place. And when the roar and applause had reached its crescendo, didn't you raised your head up, and smoothly--like you was spreading warm butter on a slice of toast--take that tick infested wig off and wave it at the crowd...you brought the house down. Talk about a Kodak moment. You showed that sidity french poodle/Alaskan Huskie mix who was the top dog in the yard. I'm glad I taped it. Every Labor Day the little kids in my family has to see it over and over again. It's a true holiday highlight.
Well, I dont' know about you, but boy, do I feel better. *LOL* You know there's nothing like a little laughter to ease away the tension and difuse anger. I'm out of here. I got books to read, and reviews to write.

I read three books by the woman this year. All sold to me by Troy Johnson. One of them was reviewed on this web site.
They damn sure is up there with Ms. Toni Morrison--THAT I cain't lie about. No real book lover could.

Thumper are you referring to "Rawsistaz Reviews" as being riff raff or whatever you said? That was the cover of "Long Train."
AAlBC.COM's review by Jackie is on all of Kola's books.
I thought the New York Times and the New York Review of Fiction gave Kola pretty good "blurbs", too.
I don't think you meant to diss Tee Royal, me and Jaqueline Jones LaMon or our expertise at reviewing books.

First of all,
I admire and respect everyone here...that certainly includes Thumper, who...despite mean things we've said back and forth...remains my favorite book critic.
Writers such as Zane, Tracy Price Thompson, actress Whoopi Goldberg and even people like Sisgal and Chris Hayden can all testify that I've always praised "Thumper" and made people aware of him...people like Whoopi who had never heard of him before going back to 2001 up to just a few weeks ago when I mentioned him on a radio broadcast--I was asked who was my favorite movie critic, I said I didn't know but that there's a really gifted, exciting critic that I know named "Thumper" and I named this web site.
I am deeply sorry for anything unkind or disrespectful that I have ever said to Thumper or to Cynique or Carey or anyone else.
I truly, truly apologize for my presence the last 2 years...because I see that I was not welcome and that it's my fault things got out of hand...by sticking around.
Only ABM, Sisgal and Chris really know how sorry I am for the deep hostility that remains against me. They only came to my defense...because in our emails to one another, I had been saying only good things and positive things about people here.
Thumper...if it makes you feel better, then you are right...I am ugly and look like a man and have no career, etc.
That won't, of course, stop The Kola Boof Show. Many predicted my demise 3 years ago...and as Africana.Com recently reported....I'm only getting bigger. As well...they printed the most RECENT photograph of me when they profiled me.
But I am very sad, at one of the roughest moments in my life, to be the object of so much hate and scorn--without even doing anything to cause it.
I am truly caught off by guard by this recent Board "Gossip"/attack and I definitely have anguished over just how to respond to it. Mainly because I was minding my own business....and BAM.....my name was erected and splashed in your eyes once more.
Naturally, I'd like to set a few things straight. Starting with "Tee Royal".
1) Tee..."Sunshine" read an interview that I sent to you some weeks back in an email. I wanted feedback from her and that's how she, Zane, Tracy T. and Sisgal saw the contents of my court case--your name was in the group of sisters who received that email.
That email was NOT..to be shared on this message board, although Sunshine is right--it has been in the L.A. Press.

2) I am having a book event on August 18th in Washington, D.C. (where I was raised)...and because of Media and Security and the growing number of people wanting to attend...we have had a problem in settling on the venue whereby the event will take place. At one point, it was scheduled for the Smithsonian Anacostia Museum, only a block and half from where I grew up...but they became frightened of the crowd growing too large and the Museum being damaged. As well, once they media began calling them every 2 minutes..to ask if I would be speaking about Bin Laden, the War and my homeland Sudan...they became even more fearful and wanted to make the event "invitation only".
I could not go for that. So we moved it to several other locations and have yet to choose a final one. But I assure you, I will appear and speak and Take Questions from the public and from the Media on Aug. 18th in Washington, D.C.
I will also appear in Memphis, Detroit, Chicago,
Oakland, Philadelphia, Boston and New York City before the end of October--I can't give out the dates yet. I may also do Atlanta, Miami and Toronto if I can get my publisher to add those cities.
3) I've been on four nationally televised broadcasts (Fox News, The GoodMorning Fox Show, PBS and last week--my "face and name" were flashed on screen by ABC as they spoke about me in passing)...many of you here have seen me on those broadcasts...so I don't think there' any question that I exist.
4) The New York Review of Fiction is a Manhattan newsletter where my book "Long Train" was reviewed 3 years ago. Not only has my work NEVER received a negative review...but great, distinguished luminaries like Derrick Bell, Paul Phillips of Brown University (now in Singapore) and Oliver Brourd have all praised my work....top editors at Harper Collins, Random House and Simon and Shuster have all...also....praised my work and been TURNED DOWN by me, because of my desire to advance a certain point of view and not have my view compromised--or the blackness edited out.
Of course they've all pointed out that once my SALES match the power of my work--then they can allow me to do what I do now at a bigger house without the "establishment" raising holy hell. That's how it works.
"The Paris Review"...which is the most acclaimed literary magazine in America, rivaled only by "The New Yorker"....has commissioned ME to write a short story for their magazine. I have been working on that earnestly.
They don't solicit "commercial" writers or amateurs to write for "The Paris Review".
Tracy Price Thompson sent me an email one day from a group of distinguished writers who were reading my work and couldn't stop talking about my "voice" and "power". It would be tacky for me to mention these people by name...the ones whose permission I don't have.

6) Because of my growing success with the three books that Cornel Chesney's Door of Kush has published by me...he has asked me to act as "Aquisitions Editor" (is that spelled right?) for his company. I signed Sisgal and Chris Hayden...and at the time I signed them, I hardly knew them very well at all. Especially Sisgal.
Sisgal's support for me is only because I have been sweet, sisterly and supporting of her and her career. Not because we really know each other. She is a sweet, sensitive very levelheaded and Non-glamorous but beautiful (and I mean PRETTY) woman who doesn't like nonsense. We have gotten along fantastically!
You could say that Sisgal has gotten to know the "real" me. Which is basically a mom, a housewife and a professional cook....about to audition for my own cooking show again.
I forgot what I came here to say.
The basic thing is...I am truly wounded by this unending "surprise attack"--everybody emails me when it happens and I am too weary to fight. I have a very complicated, busy life...and I have no grudges for anyone here.

One last note.
When the gifted Z.Z. Packer pulled out of a book project called "Politically Inspired" almost 2 years ago--the editor, Stephen Elliott asked ME to replace her.
I wrote a story that was reputedly--so powerful---it made Z.Z. Packer return to the prestigious project and the book received rave reviews.
Z..Z. and I are the only 2 BLACK writers in the book (my baby, cartoonist Keith Knight is in the book). National Book Award winner Charles Baxter, 2 time Best American Short Story winner Elizabeth Tallent, legend Stewart O'Nan and New Yorker editor Ben Greenman...are just some of the other writers in that book.
Because of the power of my short story--"The One You Meet Everywhere"---I was asked by THE PARIS REVIEW to write a story for them.
**People can say what they wish...paint me as a vapid sex symbol, the "new Diana Ross", a bitch, etc....but the only true thing is that I am "ambitious", I have a superior imagination and am well aware of my gift for storytelling.
Toni Morrison, I have no doubt...would not throw one of my books out of the window. The day is coming soon..when I'll be able to ask her.
No matter how many "black" book editors ...or fellow "black" authors ....or black folks in general of the publishing business are praying and waiting for me to disappear....the fact is....I'm a damned good writer and even more than that--I'm an artist. My whole life is art.

No babygurl, I think you might be on to something but Kola and I are cool. I've never said a thang bad about her. Even though she and my guy Thump don't see eye to eye, I call it like I see it, Thump knows that and he has never expressed a concern about my likes or dislikes of her, the man ain't like that. He don't sweat me about my friends and I don't get into his private life, we cool. Kola has given me autograpghed books and everything so she's alright with me. But like any friend, I don't agree with all the things she does and have told her so but this Tasha thang is something else.
I take the name "dog" very seriously. You do know what dogs do don't you. They lick each others ass, and will "f" themself if they could. They don't care who's lookin' or what sex their partner is, they just want to plug up somebody. So when that stankin' ass Tasha came wiggling her fat funky ass up in here calling names I didn' t like that and I don't know who called her. I seriously think that you all have lost your damn minds. I suggest that you cut it out. None of this crap is cute. None of it. Kola, take yourself, Sunshine and all of your alaises and lies home. Enough is enough. ABM, Lambd, stop the madness. And anyone else I haven't named, but I'm talking about you too. Zip it. All of you supposedly grown people acting like children. Sh_t don't make no damn sense!! This thread is officially close! And it will soon be deleted!
