The other day I read for the first time the rules of conduct for patrons of the St. Louis public library (you might know I would have paid them no attention all these years) and noticed this one for the first time

13) No person shall solicit or accost any person for the purpose of inducing them to participate in an act of prostitution.

14) But if you DO conduct 13), please clean up after yourselves...and pay a $15 cover charge at the check-out desk.

Hi Ess,

Glad to see you here, and since I know you, I know your trademark one eyebrow up. Its for real folks.
As far as that rule... I'm just shaking my head.

Kc_trudiva:

No I am not kidding. It was the first time I saw it--I'm thinking, who would go to the library for the purposes of soliciting a prostitute? What prostitute would go to the library for the purpose of soliciting clients?

I think I might ask them about it and what occasioned the adoption and posting of this rule.

I can see how libraries can be a popular spot for johns/hookers. They often have few visitors. Those few visitors are often too busy with what they're doing to pay too much attention to what others are doing. There are lots of shelves/books to disguise what going on. Libraries have restrooms, which - YUCK! - are a popular choice for those of a certain ‘sort’. People are less inclined to think of people getting nasty there. And, for the particularly frugal sort, there’s no cover charge.

So if you are the type who enjoys getting off in public, the local library might be a choice place.

Also, and this is purely conjecture, some the more scholarly types might have invested so much time in their studies that they begin to develop certain erotic urges connected with such, especially if what they are studying is of a nature that might otherwise incite titillation (e.g., human sexuality). Thus, they may feel compelled to satisfy such urges within the very presence of some place or thing that inspired those feelings, the library.

And dude, if you haven’t thrown down surrounded by a dusty-musty collection of Shakespearean sonnets...well then, I dare say, you haven’t live!

to abm: you had me on the beginning of your sentence "..scholarly types might have invested so much time in their studies..." but then you threw me for a loop with the "develop certain erotic urges..." and "thrown down surrounded by a dusty-musty collection of Shakespearean sonnets..." *clearing throat* are you sharing secrets? just wondering. curious minds want to know.

Kc_trudiva,

Oh, the places I’ve been, the things I’ve done, the people I’ve done them with...* Let’s just say there’s a certain part of me that is "stuck in up position" as well (RUFF! RUFF!).

Here, I think it suffices to quote Prince/Sheila E: "That’s what we are, we all want a love bizarre."

abm: does that post classify as WTMI (way too much information)? ahaha
i think the contents were more in line with that Rick James tune, Super Freak.

WTMI? Really? Hmmmmm. Actually, I thought I was being quite subtle. And My Dear, you did say "curious minds want to know.".

Also, I’m not sure how Super Freak applies to me as in that song James refers more to the woman than he does himself. But, I digress...

Well, libraries have lately become surrogate babysitteres for kids whose parents get off work later than their kids get out of school. So who knows? Libraries may now become a fertile hunting ground for pedophiles. (I think that is information that will shut ABM down. LOL.)

What a sad state of affairs the world is in, when the public library is no longer a safe, quiet, respectible haven for expanding ones intellect.

Funny, Cynique, I didn’t even think about kids. Most of the libraries I have frequented over the last +20 year have been affiliated with colleges/universities. So the pedophilia issue wouldn’t really apply. (But I do find it interesting that YOU would think of a library as a good place ‘score’ minors. Has Cynique been checking out the local prep school ‘talent’?)

Yesss, ABM, I salivate over fine young men all time, because I am a dirty, but harmless old lady. I assumed that underage children were not your thing which was why I figured that info about them frequenting libaries would be the one susbject you couldn't inject comments about your sexual prowess into. It was as JOKE, babe.

Cynique,
See, I knew all of your criticism for hip/hopper was simply a ruse to hide all of that young ‘thug passion’ you harbored deep-down in your loins. Doesn’t it feel good to finally let that all out?

Yes, I draw a line in the sand at pedophilia. Everyone is entitled to a childhood. And I may be sick, but I ain’t a psycho.

My criticism of the hip-hop culture stands. But if you can point me to a fine young man among that motly crew of rappers out there, I'll reconsider.

Hey! What do yawl think I am, a pimp or somethin’? The only advice I’ve got for you is that you regularly watch BET’s "106th and Park". I guess you’ll be able to spy some "fine young man" there to suit your needs.
