Has anyone read a book by Frank Yerby before? If so, what book would you recommend? |

I read the Foxes of Harrow" about a thousand years ago. As I recall, it was pretty good. Must've been. It was a best-seller that was made into a movie. |

Have read Foxes of Harrow & saw the movie, Girl from Storyville, Golden Hawk, Judas my Brother and perhaps one of two others. Judas made the mosst lasting impression, but it is not for everyone. Please don't ask for specifics. I was drawn to his works, not because of literary sophistication at the time, but because he was "colored." At one time I had all of his works in paperback, but gave them away because I stopped collecting. Vestiges of the collection behavior lingers because I still enjoy plundering through books at the thrift store (VOA). I look for AA authors, but have found Edna Ferber, Robert Penn Warren, etc. Peristence & patiences pay off. 5/12/04 enroute home from a meeting decided to stop and check the books, I found a hard cover copy of Yerby's Pride's Castle. First printing, 1949, Dial Press, EXCELLENT condition, free of torn, dogeared pgs. or markings. After finding these collectables, the problem is who would want/appreciate them. Because I had dumped some on Thumper, I had planned to ask if he wanted this one. But because you expressed an interesst in Yerby, I'll send it to you if you want it. If interested, after reading it, it would be nice if you posted an overview/impression of the work. I don't recall reading it. |

yerby's the dahomean is quite good, actually. (i've also seen some rare copies where it's entitled the man from dahomey). |
