Hello All,

It's that time of the year again. What is the Best Book of the Year this year? In my opinion, the honor goes to The Known World by Edward P. Jones. He blew me away.

I agree Thumper - The Known World with Getting Mother's Body by Suzan Lori-Parks a close second.

Gotta go with "Love" in the fiction category and "Reconsidering the Souls of Black Folks," and Zora's bio "Wrapped in Rainbows" for nonfiction.

As mentioned in a previous post, The Known World gets my vote for fiction.

Cynique, I'm reading Reconsidering the Souls of Black Folks now and I'm enjoying it so far. However other than "Reconsidering", I did not read any non-fiction books that were first published in 2003. However my favorite non-fiction book I did read this year would be Basic Economics (2001) by Thomas Sowell (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/046508138X/aalbccom-20). I would recommend this book to anyone.

"The Known World" really is a literary tour de force and is certain worthy of all the kudos it has earned.

Thumper:

I am going to read "The Known World" and the year ain't over yet--

'Til then, re a book of the year--meaning a book that I had to read, that I stayed up late at night reading, that was an experience, that was the subject of conversations with friends and family and strangers, that was one that made me say, "Boy I can't wait to see the movie", that was also published this year, I vote for
