I couldn't breathe. It was, everywhere, dark and suffocating. "Who's there?" I half whispered, half screamed. Afraid, that if someone, anything answered back, I would be in more trouble than I originally thought.

Okay, Cynique, or whomever, join in, lets see if we can write horror.

OK, sisgal, I'm game. My paragraph follows yours.

"I couldn't breathe. It was, everywhere, dark and suffocating. "Who's there?" I half whispered, half screamed. Afraid, that if someone, anything answered back, I would be in more trouble than I originally thought.

Then, an answer did come, echoing inside my skull, saying the strange words I had heard before, spoken in a voice that had been haunting me since childhood, drawing me into the dark of cave of my fear...

Cynique, looks like it's only you and me here...

"Watermelon, collard greens, delicious red apples," the voice shouted from everywhere. "He was here, the vegetable man! But how could he be? That was a long time ago. My childhood. My home."

"Oh, not that old vegatable man story again," Sweet Charlotte interuppted. "It's not scary, Ruby. No matter how many times you tell it, it's not scary. I mean, who would be afraid of a vegatable man?"

Ruby's hair stood on end, green goo dripped from her mouth and her eyes were flaming, "Who are you to speak, Sweet Charlotte. You weren't there. You didn't know him, hear him, day after day, calling out vegetables. I was just a little child."

Freddie jumped atop his stool, "Oh spare me the melodrama Ruby, wadawada wah, but I'm with SC, your story stinks. Someone around here needs to get an imagination, come up with something better. Yeah, like a killer who kills everyone in their dreams."

Ruby shot Freddie the finger. "Calm down kiddies!" Sweet Charlotte yelled as she stretched across Freddie and snatched up the remote control. "Wouldnt nobody go to see no goddamn movie about a someone who kills you in your dreams." Ruby hissed.
"Would too."
"Would not."
"Stop it the both of you." Sweer Charlotte hissed, "My show is about to come on."
The trio settled themselves comfortably into the couch, the lights flickered and then went off altogether. What happened next would bring national attention to that small Virgina town and have Anna Kapers plotting to kill her twelve year old son.

Instead of the progam expected, the TV screen was a blank square that was emitting an eerie green hue that glowed in the darkness. Confusion filled the air, and the only sound in the room was the gasp and whimper of those present who sat there, gazing in wide-eyed disbelief as the green screen was suddenly perforated by a jagged black hole out of which loomed a contorted face, making everyone realize that the VCR was on, and who they were seeing was...

"What happened?" Freddie screamed and joined Sweet Charlotte at the television. "Where did he go?"

The three of them crowded around the small television, confused. Ruby reached behind and unplugged it from the wall, no one spoke another word.

"Hey!"

The three of them jumped at the sound of his voice and stared in disbelief at Jimmy Kapers. The same Jimmy Kapers who only moments ago resided in their television and then disappeared.

Jimmy stood in the doorway wearing a striped green shirt and a Cubs baseball jacket with a matching hat. At 12 years old he was much smaller than most of his friends but that didn't stop him from competing in every sport. "
So, what y'all doing?" He asked.

"Nothing," the three answered in unison.

"I'm gonna hit a home run," he rasped, his gleaming eyes scanning the puzzled faces of those who trembled there before him.
Then he....

The three scrambled to different corners of the room and waited for the nightmare to end, but there was still five hours left to sunrise, not to mention the large fissure spreading across Jimmy Kapers forehead.

Then Jimmy did something else crazy...he pulled down his pants and mooned the whole crowd. "What is this, some kind of joke, why do I have to be the green oozing thing", Jimmy asked. "you told me I was going to be in a scary movie but I didn't expect to be the damn monster". Jimmy pulled up his pants and started towards the door but before he could make his exit Charlotte pulled out her razor and cut his ear off and threw it in the pot of greens. " That's what those greens needed, Charlotte said, as she licked her fingers making a smacking sound with her lips. Now boy if you don't get your dumb ass back in that TV and start ozzing, am gonna cut off something else . That's right, Charlotte said in a commanding way. I know you ain't used that thing since that blind white girl down the street found out you wasn't Hootie from that band Hootie and the Blow Fish, but it's gonna hurt. Come to think of it those greens could use a little more seasoning, Charlotte mumbled to herself. You didn't think we knew about that did you, your little freaky deaky. So take your ol'musty butt on out of here and get scary". Jimmy was totally defeated, with his head hung down he slowly walked toward the door but before he left he ............

Total silence fell upon the room. Apologetically Ruby said they were so sorry and that they had made a mistake. They had forgotten that Jimmy was named after his father and it was he who had bedded the Hootie groupie. While Charlotte departed to get a bandage for Jimmie's ear, Ruby leaned over close to Jimmy and said .....

Then Ruby blinked her eyes, and realized that she had been hallucinating, and that crazy thoughts and scenarios had been stumbling through the maze of her altered consciousness. Now, as she and the others hovered there in the darkened room that was illuminated only by a faint green glow, fear held them in its clutches, and reality unfolded before their bulging eyes as the person they thought was Jimmy began to transform into an unrecognizable trace of a human..

"Jimmy?" Ruth pleaded. In the hollows of her soul, the words "We should have NEVER played with this ouija board" reverberated again and again, becoming louder with every single moment of regret. Around the being formally known as "Jimmy", a dark gray cloud formed which seemed to grow with every hurried breath Ruth took.. Within a matter of minutes, the cloud completely covered the room, leaving only a terrified Ruth and the being formally known as Jimmy. He just stood there, with his red eyes fixed on Ruth, not even for one second would those red eyes leave Ruth. Ruth backed up until she could back up no more and fell onto the floor feeling helpless. With tears in her eyes, Ruth fell to bended knee and begged "I know I ain't prayed in like 5 years, but God, PLEASEEE help me! Please get me out of this!"

Just then, someone frantically knocked on the door with nervous hands. It was Ruth's little sister, Carla. Carla simultaneously knocked and screamed, "RUTH? RUTH!?!?" True enough, it had been 4 weeks since the two sisters had seen each other, having fallen out over Jimmy. Carla had tried over and over to apologize to Ruth, but Ruth just wasn't tryna hear it.. She just couldn't possibly believe tolerate anything that would explain why her own SISTER would be waiting in HER bed in Vickie's Secrets for her HUSBAND while she was in the hospital. Ruth shook her head, as if she was trying to snap out of it.. Or maybe even get the whole truth out of her head.
"RUTH? RUTH!?!?" Ruth got up,"Carla!? CARLA IS THAT YOU?"

"Yes.. It is me, Carla. I need your help. Please help me". But Carla no longer had a key.. She tried to push with all her might but for some reason, the door would not open. Just then, the candles in the room all re-lit at the same and Jimmy's mouth opened, revealing a ball of fire. "CARLAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!" Ruth screamed. Jimmy's eyes, still not leaving Ruth for one minute started to look even more evil. He was doing "something" to her with his eyes.. She could not explain it, but she could feel it. Jimmy's body did not move, nor did his eyes. Still, the energy from his eyes became more and more intense, so intense until Ruth could feel extracting something from her soul. Suddenly, 12 beings from the Otherworld circled around Ruth and she tried so hard to scream from the top of her lungs, but nothing came out...

...and in her speechlessness, Ruby was left to face the fact that an entity calling herself "Ruth" appeared from time-to-time possessing her soul, turning her into a succubus, a siren from another dimension who seduced and bedded men. Carla's husband had been Ruth's latest victim, but Ruby knew that Carla would never believe it was "Ruth", not her who had lay in wait for her husband. Now, there were 12 hooded creatures hovering over Ruby, chanting in an unknown tongue, their eyes pulsating with a red glimmer, their fangs dripping with drool, their evil intent obvious. But suddenly Ruby found her voice, only able to murmur at first before giving a loud shriek, and yelling at her tormenters.
"Go back to the darkness! I am a child of light!" She extended her arms and made a sign of the cross with 2 of her fingers. Then she began to chant right along with them, a Buddhist mantra, that began to drown out the dissonance of doom emanating from the croak of the creatures, sapping them of their power. Gradually the darkness began to lift and the wilting creatures seem to be morphing into a huge single figure that resembled...

... of all things - a beanstalk! Ruby and Sweet Charlotte and the others all gasped in disbelief as their surroundings began to change, as what was once a dimly-lit living room was gradually turning into a landscape, green with overgrowth, basking in the warmth of an ominous red sun that blazed down from a sky that had turned a weird shade of yellow. Not knowing what was happening, they were all too stunned for words, losing their ability to speak as they realized they were shrinking...shrinking...shrinking...turning into - INSECTS! Creepy crawlers with 6 legs and bug eyes and antennas that were picking up the presence of - vegetables! Before them the beanstalk loomed large and inviting, beckoning them to climb up its leafy sprouts, as a promise carried by the soft whisper of the breeze, told them of collard greens, and watermelons, and sweet potatoes, and black eyed peas. It was Charlotte's old childhood dream coming to life as they all lined up in a single file, eager little vermin ready to crawl up the beanstalk, hungry to ravish the lush crop of vegetables that awaited in the garden above. Buzzing with blissful delight they began their journey, their buggy little minds free from all human cares. Collard greens, watermelons, sweet potatoes, black eyed-peas. Ummmm. Buzzz.
How could they know that what also awaited at the top was a grotesque Jack in the Beanstalk who had once been Jimmy Kapers. Ready to welcome the pests who had plagued him all of his short life, he stood there, laughing diabolically, clutching a can of bug spray...
