Hi, Sorry for putting my subject in caps, I just wanted to catch people's attention. I'm taking a Contemporary Black Writers course this semester in college, and I'm trying to find information about Hoyt Fuller, but have found very little so far. My partner and I would greatly appreciate it if anyone knows of any resources we could use in our research, because, as I have said, we haven't found much about him at all. Even if you can tell us some other works he has written or accomplishments he has made, then maybe we could search for those instead of just looking for things about Fuller himself. Thanks again.

Question for you, why post when you have nothing helpful to say. Sorry if I can't find hardly anything about him and thought maybe someone could tell me the name of a book or short story he wrote (aside from "Dinner at Diops"). I've been told he wrote the "Senegalese", but I can't find it anywhere. I don't think it was necessary for you to reply, but that's just me. If I did know something to help someone out, I would point them in the right direction to finding that information and if I didn't know, I wouldn't respond at all because what's the point. I think I'd get the idea that noone knew of any helpful info when there were no responses.

This is from the Anthology The Poetry of Black America edited by Arnold Adoff (1973)

Hoyt W. Fuller
born 1928
He was long time Managing Editor of Negro Digest/Black World
He founded the Chicago Organization of Black American Culture

At that time his work was only in anthologies--no books were listed for him. He had two poems in this book, "Serevezza" a fine poem about a battlefield in WWII Italy, and "Lost Moment"

I'd suggest contacting Haki Madhbuti or going to the ChicagoPoetry.com site. or looking through back issues of Negro Digest/Black World (I think those were published by Johnson Publishing who publishes Jet or Ebony. Maybe you can contact their offices, too.

I have bunches of old Black World magazines and loved receiving them each month back in the day. Hoyt Fuller was a giant of a man and a stalwart supporter of Black poetry. If I can dig enough of them out to find any info apart from what Chris has already posted, I can email it on to you.
