Look-E-Loo

Thanks for the shout out -- I have been chilling and reading the post periodically. Aint to much caught my attention - but than again I am a critical one -- smile.

Oh well, if you plan to be in Harlem for the Bookfair -- I hope to check you out at the AALBC table -- last year I met Thumper -- Troy was some where working the crowd - I don't know if anyone else dropped in -- I was baby sitting and did not have too much time to hang.

What you reading now? Me I have found a new author of historical murder mysteries - this sister - Frankie Bailey writes about African American crime historian Professor Lizzie Stuart a sleuthing sister -- her current title is Old Murders but her first is Death's Favorite Child --its slow and good -- ya know chock full of details.

Thanks once again - -and look for me on the edge of the screen that is where I hang -- peace

Well, hello, Lookee Loo! I wondered whatever happened to Miss Muriel and her husband "Ellison Fan." Yes, I'm still around, playing the busy body. LOL. So, welcome back, dearheart. Look forward to your forthcoming comments. Regarding "Inner City Sis", I don't know whatever happened to her. She faded away and I miss her. Carey hasn't posted lately, either. BTW, I'm really curious as to which book of mine you're talking about, and how you got a hold of it, because there was no web site where you could order my books. Hummmm. Anyway, thanks for the "left-handed compliment". I'm sure whichever book you have reference to has been re-written because my first editions really did leave a lot to be desired and I did, and am doing, them over.

Soul Sister! I'm fine. Gardening and watching my arthritis and blood pressure. I just read "Patti's Pearls" by Patti LaBelle, which was good bout now. I started on "A Love of My Own" but put that to the side. I'm in the middle of a biography of Ethel Waters that's real good, but I forgot the title.

I read a lot of biography and christian fiction now. You know Warner Books has a black christian label. I get tired of all that curs'n and cheap sex.

Cynique, you were selling "A Black Family Story" right fo I left, my love. I got Troy to send me a copy after they reviewed it. Ellison Fan read it first. Member his gall stones? Well, he had those out a month now. He still sore, too! He told me tell you--"Hello, dear lady".

Thumpa--what you know bout StagoLEE.

Lawd, Jesus, I knowd I was in the right place when I saw you little young wet behind the ears behind sitt'n up talkin bout StagoLee. I bout grinned myself a permanent smile! I'm ordering that book TODAY. How you, baby?

Well, I guess I dig out Carey email and find out what he been up to. Pray he alright, though. Ain't normal for folks to just disappear lak that after they been congrigat'n all this time.

Hope Inner City Sister done had the baby and doin fine, although she could teach that white husband a hers some manners. She was a heartbroken child if ever.

Well. Let me get my greens warmed up. My sister Eula made some cornbread day fo last. I'll have that for lunch. I couldn't sleep last night, this arthritis act'n up so bad, lak to kilt me. Pray I do better today.

Yall babies be good and I will peek in later.

As I recall, Look-E-Loo and her husband are educators whose field is Sociology. She previously explained that she often reverts to a southern dialect as a tribute the strong black women who nurtured her when she was growing up.

Hi there akavi--baby, I cain't spell yo name, forgive me,but hello, sweety.

Sisgal, Cynique is right. I taught at the University of Illinois, I edit journals for the English and Sociology departments now. When my mama passed I took on talking like her. I be 70 this July, but I'm still sport'n 58 pritty good, praise the lord.

Just to let you know--I was at one time ashamed of my mama's country ways. Imagine that. I know...I need to get a switch to this tail. But I was. Anyhow, when she got the colon cancer, my sister Eula and my cousin Constance got hold of me (I was the only college graduate, you see--thought I was somebody). I been in tribute of my mama ever since. I tell you the truth, they don't make em like they did in my mama's day.

No they don't.

But before then I made it a point to sound like Vicky Lord from One Life to Live. Yall remember Vicky? Lawd, lawd--shak'n my head.

Cynique!! I was wrong, sugar. Wasn't Troy that sent me that book of yours, but I remember I had to special order it from somebody. Won't through amazon or barnes. Escapes my mind now. But it was by Connie Divers. And I rather enjoyed it. It reminded me a lot of my own family.

Sisgal, I had to cut this place loose. At one point it was so much ridiculous folks and crazy posts filling up the board. I said to myself--all good things come to an end. I took a few days off and just plain forgot. That's all it was. But I see yall got even MO mess goin on up here now. Probly ran my Carey away with all this foolishness.

I ain't gone let it worry me.

But I tell you one thing...where is that dern Thumpa!!? He ain't come on my porch and say hello to Miss Muriel!! Gone hurt my feel'ns!

He betta get his tail on over here for I get out in that yard and find me a good switch. He knows Miss Muriel loves him!!

Thumpa--where my sugar, boy!? Off somewhur with his nose stuck in a book. That's my baby.

And lord, he done brought up StagO-LEE. Now you know that's boy.

Cynique--I'm O get me that Norton Holmes book. I met her once you know in 76 for the bicenntenial. Oh, she's a bad mama jama, honey. Folks used to saw me an her resemble, but I'm shorter and fairer skinned. But I loved me Ellie. I'm O get me that one this weekend.

O.K. den. Yall be good, babies. And have a blessed day.

Nothing wrong with talking like Vicky Lord Riley Buchannan Carpenter. (smile)

Ms. Muriel, try thinking of akaivyleaf as three words:
AKA Ivy Leaf

Our friend is obviously proud of her association with Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, symbolized by the ivy leaf.

Carey...my lord. You done brought me to tears, baby.

I am so sorry, baby. I am SO sorry!

I know you and Miss Ann were like two peas in a pod. And that was a good woman.

I am so sorry, my love. My prayers and good wishes are with you and that goes for my husband, Bennie (Ellison Fan) as well.

Goodness gracious. Sweetie you stay prayerful and just remember that there's a better life for Ann where she is now. God got her and she ain't hurting or worrying about nothing no more.

She knows how much you love her.

Carey,

You and Ann were like too old friends to me. I always admired your love for her and vice versa. Ann's love of books and the way you two shared was a blessing to us all, not to mention the special attention you gave me, my heart aches as well.

My sympathies are with you over the loss of Miss Ann. She was an inspiration. "Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates." Proverbs 31:31.

Hello...
You are indeed correct, I am proud of my association with AKA. Thanks for figuring it out. I've had some people, obviously not in the know or of the other color affiliation think my name to be Ivy...

Look-E-Loo I didn't know tht you resided in Illinois. I am from E. St. Louis and I had number of friends who graced the halls of U of I over the years.

Look-e-Loo, I didn't know about your Illinois' affiliation, either. I attended that U of I down in Champaign-Urbana for a couple of years waaaaay back in the day. The time I spent strolling the broadwalk, and hangin' out in the Student Union and traversing those halls of Ivy and cheering for the "Fightin' Illini" along with Chief Illiniwek and lovin me a Kappa man were some of the most memorable ones of my youth. If only I'd spent been more time studying, instead of playing bridge and puffin Pall Malls. (I was even a member of the AKA Ivy Leaf group at Gamma chapter. Back then, you couldn't go on line until you made a certain GPA. Naturally, they "depledged" me and a couple other rebels for not following rules. They kicked us out of the old AKA house on Stoughton street and I ended up living in Evans Hall the next semester. Good times. Ahhhhh nostalgia.

Look-E-Loo,

I have to agree with you about the cursing its off the hook and become so common and acceptable. Even an irate Chester Himes, did not go on like that for chapters at a time -- and he was writing about true OG's

I did not know about the Warner label of Black Christian fiction - I will have to check it out. Oh well -- have a great week and remember to keep Carey in our prayers. Peace

Well, this makes three of us. I was at University of Illiinois Champaign Urbana from l968-l970--I was one of the Project 500 students. I transferred from there to UMSL in 1970--it was a mistake, I think in hindsight. I lived in Garner Hall while I was there and a member of I Felta Thi anti fraternity--don't ask.

Gee, Chris, it's a small world, huh? Wonder if there are any more Illinois "alums" lurking out there. I've never regretted going to the U of I. I realized with the passage of time that I actually learned a lot there; not only from books, but from people.
