Hello All,

I beg your pardon for not posting the change over sooner. Our new book this month is Mules and Men by Zora Neale Hurston. Yep, it's an oldie. If you don't know, Miss Zora is my girl. This is a collection of folktales. A more complete edition of the collection is Every Tongue Got To Confess. But, I went this route to give those who haven't read folktales before a small taste. I have no doubt that you will find these tales entertaining and poignant. Enjoy!!

PS, it might go easier on those who are unfamiliar with Hurston's writing style of dialect if you read the stories aloud in the beginning. Your ear will bring some of the words home for you. *big smile* Again, Enjoy!!

That is so smart to have us read it out loud, Thumper.

Gotta give you major props on that one. I think there's several books, and not just the kinds with a southern drawl, that we could apply that technique to.

Brilliant. Thanks for giving me a new reading too.

Thumper, Snake, I will admit that when I read her first book, I read it aloud to get the dialect and it was the same advice I gave to members of our group having a hard time reading it. I'm a Southern Girl and grew up around older folks, so I picked it up quite well.

I haven't read Of Mules and Men yet though...when is the chat?
