More Like Wrestling - Danyel Smith.
This was such a beautifully accomplished book, and the author really had a handle on her characters and the camaraderie amongst a group of displaced kids in Oakland. THIS IS REALLY WORTH CHECKING OUT.
N: A Romantic Mystery by Louis Edwards-- This one is a couple years old but very well done.

Bayou, thanks for responding...and sorry for my delay in following up, guess I got caught up in the move. I purchased both of the ones you listed earlier this year and I look forward to reading them.
Anyone else have debut authors they'd like to share? I'm running a feature on them now and I may try and post some information on the boards though it may not take my formatting.

Bayou--I also enjoyed More Liks Wrestling by Danyel Smith. Some other debut books I recommend are:
