On March 16, the Game Show Network is airing an original special about one of the darkest moments in the history of the ultimate reality TV program, the game show. It's a story about the second biggest game-show scandal in history, one that very nearly and very quietly put the game show out of business for good.

Michael Larsen, an unemployed ice-cream truck driver from Ohio, cracked the code to the Whammy, "Press Your Luck's" cartoony villians. As a result, he won over $110,000 in cash and prizes, one of the richest single paydays in the history of television. Larsen's streak put CBS in the hot seat, as it had to fend off charges that the game show was rigged. If Larsen didn't fess up, the game show, as we know it, would've become extinct.

As a student of television history, I've learned about the ramifications of Larsen's notorious streak on "Press Your Luck". Least of which is the fact that, because CBS was so embarrassed by the scandal, they've never let this unusual episode be rerun beyond its original air date. Regardless of whether or not you're a game show fan, this is a special that I believe will be worth watching, because of its historical significance. The show is scheduled for 9 PM, which is the normal time for the Sunday-night showing of "Weakest Link".

Are you a game show afficionado? You remember "What's My Line" and "To Tell the Truth?"

Chris...Thump, It's beating up on Mike Tyson time do you care to make a prediction on the upcoming fight? Tyson's a 7-1 favorite if that means anything. Any man that puts a permanent tatoo on his face has gots to be crazy, so this fight may well be another circus act. As much as I love my boy Mike I'm even growing tired of his stupidity. I don't know what it is but there this feeling that Mike is going to turn it around and knock somebody out. He couldn't knockout the White Buffalo Frans Botha and now he's taking on The Black Rhino Clifford Ettinnae(sp). I Just want Mike to put on one more good show absent of biting off ears and prefight melees. I'm glad it's on showtime because I doubt that I would pay to see this one although I think it will be a brawl if only breifly.

It'll be a disgusting contest between him and another tomato can--probably as bad as a WWE bout. They want to squeeze another one out with--whose the guy from England with the dreads? Cheez--boxing has fallen to an all time low.

Tomato can huh, okay. So I guess you're not going to pick a winner in this one. Etienne is not really a tomato can but he's not the boxer he was when he came out of prison. I still think it will be exciting and will not last more than 2-3 rounds.

Chris, I'm a die-hard game show fan. I do remember shows like "To Tell The Truth" and "What's My Line", but I'm more fond of shows like "Jeopardy!", "The Price Is Right", and the Pyramid (the Dick Clark versions, not this pretender crap with Donny Osmond). In fact, if I were a television executive, I'd program game shows in prime time at least once a week. On average, they're much cheaper to produce than canned sitcoms and dramas. And they're actually more interesting to watch.

I really like what CBS and NBC did during the February sweeps. CBS had prime-time episodes of "The Price Is Right" where contestants could win $1 million on the Big Wheel in the Showcase Showdown. And NBC had Bob Eubanks hosting two new episodes of "The Worlds Most Outrageous Game Show Moments". For the first time in a long time, I actually sat down and watched something besides a sporting event on network TV.

Carey, how in tarnation did you wind up posting on this thread about boxing?! Personally, I've never cared much for boxing. Its reputation for unsavory behavior (in the ring and out) have me completely turned off. I'd like to knock Mike Tyson out myself, that stupid ape.

Excuse me. No you didn't, Mr. I don't listen to black music, I don't read AA books and I love hockey.

Well Claxton, the thread was reality TV and since the fight is going to be seen on TV I thought it kind of fit right in. What's more real than Mike Tyson. Yeah, I remember you saying something about your love of Hockey, come on my brother, now that should never ever even hit this board! Hockey, talking about stupid dumb apes. Don't get me started, they talk about a few punches being thrown in a basketball game but yet they let these clowns actually square off and go at it. One more thing since you brought it up, why in tarnation are you constantly bringing up white authors on this site. Have you read a black author in the last 5 years? Don't Claxton, Don't.

LOL...Claxton, I love Jeopardy too and had started watching Who Wanted to Be a Millionare and The Weakest Link when they first came out, but stopped after a few months.

I still watch Jeopardy occasionally and even have the board game and the computer game for that and whew, I loved Family Feud back in the day.

As far as Reality Shows, I don't really like them...too much. The exception is American Idol...it amazes me how many people think they can sing. It's so funny. Now, since a local guy is in the running, I jump in front of the TV every week. Go Reuben! Ahahha.

Sorry, Carey, but my dislike of boxing doesn't have anything to do with the color of the people's skin fighting...Even if I had lived back in the days when white men dominated boxing, I wouldn't have liked it. Not only is it unsavory behind the scenes (has been, since way back), it bores me to tears. I'd rather watch a baseball game, in its entirity, or even a few holes of golf, before I watch a boxing match.

My opinion of Mike Tyson hasn't changed, and that's been long rooted. He is a stupid ape, as stupid as they get. Main difference between him and a hockey player is that a hockey player has to lace them up 84 times a year. Tyson might fight twice a year, if that.

If you want to bait me, fine...But you better be advised that I've got the ammo to bring it...You've got a problem with something I'm saying, fine...But you'd damn well better know what you're talking about first.

Claxton, cool out my ahh ahh brother, it ain't that serious. I just didn't appreciate you calling yourself checkin' me on where I posted my comments. I didn't know it was that serious and I don't think it is. I wasn't trying to bait you, what's that about. I simply wanted to draw your attention to the appropriateness of some of your posts since you implied that mine was somehow out of line. I know you know what I'm talking about too.

Mike may not only fight once or twice a year but what you don't see is the grueling time spent preparing his body to withstand the attack of another man who is trying to vitually kill you. Opps...here we going talking about boxing on a tread that is reserve for.....what was the subject that we are restricted to (LOL). No my brother I don't have a beef with you, I just didn't like that snide remark you laid on me. I understand your dislike for boxing and that's cool, that's your right, but don't tell me where to post....Okay. Can you "G" with that.

Carey, I think we've both misunderstood each other...The only reason I was giving you a hard time--all in fun, I thought--about the boxing post is because it wasn't related to the topic at hand...When I read your response, however, I was ready to go a few rounds with you. We've been down that path before (dare I bring up "Zon" again?), and we don't need to go there again...

No harm was done and no foul was committed. I'm cool with you and I'm glad you're cool with me. And besides, when do you ever--and I mean EVER--see or hear a brother break out the word "tarnation" on anybody?! Heck, man, I grew up down south and I'm probably the only person I know--black, white or otherwise--that uses it.

Believe me when I tell you, Carey, I know what guys like Mike Tyson have to go through in order to do what they do. Just like any other athlete, it takes tremendous sacrifice, tenacity, and talent in order to box. I couldn't do it, that's for sure. And I have a lot of respect for anyone who can do it. But let's not forget that Robin Givens and her family tried to use Iron Mike's naivety and explosive nature against him. I'm also pretty sure Don King figured out long ago that Mike isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Okay, now, off my soapbox...Go post wherever, in good health! And say hello to Miss Ann for me!

Carey: 46 seconds? The Tonya Harding fight before was better--all together now--Boxing needs to be outlawed! And that was Lennox Lewis who I couldn't remember--wow! When you can't remember the name of the current champ and the top draw is a nutcase--or do you think he's just boosting up the gate the only way he knows how?
