Has anyone read Steven Barnes novel: Lion's Blood. I just finished it and loved it. I would love to hear the views and opinions of others who have read this very unique novel.

Hello Glenda,

I read Lion's Blood about a year ago. I love Steven Barnes! Lion's Blood was excellent! For a minute there, I thought I must have been the only one who read it. *eyebrow raised* *smile* what did you love about the novel?

I am so honored to have you reply, thanks a million. I love your discussion board and have been following it for well over a year. I loved everything about the novel. The writing was exquisite, the story itself was extremely imaginative; I cannot think of anything that I didn't like about it. I must confess that I had a very difficult time with mentally visualizing the slaves as the whites and the masters has the blacks. Then I found myself routing for Adian and wanting him to be free. At that point I had to question myself and ask the question, did I hate the act of slavery or the whites that inflicted it upon us for so long. It was everything that you want in a book; a love story, a war story, a history story and a spiritual story. I would love to see it on the big screen with Charles Dutton playing Malik and Lawrence Fishbourne playing the father Abu Ali. I am glad that there is another human that read the book and loved it as much as I did. Thanks for the response.

Glenda, I haven't read this yet (BAB-alert), but bought it for my husband's birthday last year and he LOVED it as well. He said it was one of his favorites of the year...of all time. He's also read a few of Barnes' other books and is waiting on the sequel (or maybe it's a series) that comes out this summer I believe.

FYI: BAB = Tee's term for Big Azz Book

<grin>

Hello Glenda and Tee,

Glenda: The honor is mine. Thanks for the kind words. As far as casting the book if somebody in Hollywood had the good sense and taste to film it, I would choose Wesley Snipes for Malik. I like Lawrence Fishburne as Abu Ali. It would be a fascinating film, if done right.

Tee: It is a BAB for real. But, it didn't read like one. I'm a big fan of Barnes myself since I read Blood Brothers years ago. He doesn't get the recognition he deserves that's for sure.

I'll check it out one of these days. I've had the pleasure of conversing with him on several occasions and I was quite impressed.

Yep...ROFL...help yourself. LAB is for those "little azz books" that authors know they should've added some more pages to.

Tee,

You are too funny! I love those "Little azz books." Percival Everett writes those LABz but they're gems....i like them short and difficult!

Thanks for the info yukio, I know I have his latest book and may check it out...one day. It would be so cool for time to stop so I could read 50-60 of the books on my growing to read list. It's sad, but I have more books on my To Read List than I do on my books I've read list. :-( So little time...
