Do you mean the town meeting at my daughter's school? LOL, that seems like a lifetime ago. That speech went well.
More recently (and what I *am* recovering from), I gave a speech and I guest lectured at St. Lawrence University in upstate New York. In the four classes where I lectured (see, this is why I'm recovering!) the topics included race, culture, identity, gender, parenting, sexuality, film and other media. In my speech, which was open to the community, the topic they gave me was women's work. I chose to use Sojourner Truth, my grandmother, and Michelle Obama to frame the discussion.
I also had an opportunity to have lunch with some of the students. I was surprised (and encouraged) by how thoughtful, well-spoken, concerned, and aware they are.
The school's Center for Diversity and Social Justice has a Contemporary Issues Forum, and I was invited as part of that. Since we are "unmasking" around here:

I hope you'll be writing about your experience there soon. Interesting you say that about your interactions with the students. That is why--no matter how college students may annoy me at times--I always feel most myself when I am working on a college campus. There is just something in the air that makes you feel like you can soak up all the knowledge of the universe! LOL |

Yes, I felt brand-new around those kids. I loved their questions; I loved that I had answers, lol! And yes, I learned from and was challenged by them as well.
I think I'll write about my St. Lawrence experience for AntiRacistParent--I've been negligent about contributing over there. One young lady in particular asked me a question that has stayed with me. |

HOLD UP, Kola. I believe you are refering to a statement Kitty made in a post to Urban_Scribe. Those where not, are not Kitties words. It's a coined phrased. She merely said it's called "save-a-ho" and that's what it's called. Now, the phrase doesn't say, save a WHITE HO or save an Indian Hoe. In fact, we don't know if ol'girls brother even dates hoe's but the phrase speaks to men that try saving women that they think they can turn around. It has nothing to do with race, and besides, there are HO-ISH men.
Now don't be up in here bashing my girl .
