she just seemed uncomfortable with all of the attention. She seem to be preoccupied with "appearing regal".

Keep in mind that this was like being under a microscope for a very long time. Not a comfie spot for a black woman at this stage! To wit:

Is that the right dress?, Is she gaining weight?, Isn't her hairstlye horrible? Man, she can't dance a lick!

What a pressure cooker for any woman?

Michelle used to rub me the wrong way, but now I am feelin' her! The way she and Prez Obama were dancing last night was a sight to behold. She gave him a peck on the lips, and he was looking like, "this-could-go-all-the-way." LOL

The best line I heard about Mrs. Obama is "finally there will be a pressing comb in the WH."

I love her sense of style and am dying to see what art she hangs in the WH.

BTW, right wing talk radio (you haven't lived until you've heard them rant about Mrs. Obama. LOL.) says
Mrs. Obama is pregnant.
All I can say is, AMEN!!

Personally, I'd hoped for a something a little more svelte and sophisticated in her choice of an inaugural gown. She looked like she was on her way the the senior prom. She could've worn her hair in an upswept do also because it's limp and doesn't have a lot of body.
That said, Michelle Obama is her own woman, free to develop her own style. She doesn't need my approval.

Hello all,

I love Michelle!! I thought the gown was a little too long, but other than that it was alright. Since I'm not into fashion design like that I'm not an authority on the subject. I did like her daytime outfit though.

As far as first ladies goes, I don't think she's going to fit in any of the molds of her predecessors, which in my opinion is a good thing.

I like her - she's intelligent, refined, & stylish (though slightly conservative)! The Bush women, Hilary and Nancy were definitely boring. Michelle has a warmth and vibrancy that I find extremely refreshing! I'm looking forward to her role as First Lady!

I think Michelle Obama is the most
REVOLUTIONARY image in this whole
Presidency--even more so than Obama,
the African and his people in
Kenya.

For WHITE America...she's a shock.

I think Michelle tries to stay real
and grounded.

I LOVE her limp "real" hair.

And her striking child-like
Ashanti-Bangara Wood Mask face is
exquisite, natural and very enchanting
--her beauty sneaks up on you.

Like Cynique, I too, would have
preferred to see her in a more
Svelte ensemble--but apparently
there were some murmurings
from the OLD GUARD about her
"sexuality" becoming "flagrant"
after people began discussing
what a "Big ass" she has and
how form-fitting dresses showed
that off.

Notice they're trying to remove
her sexual vibe and make her
more MATRONLY lately.

God forbid that a "deep brown"
skin woman should appear...
girlish, winsome, desirable and
vibrantly sexual
.

It's threatening--because like it
or not--Michelle is the MOST ATTRACTIVE
First Lady America has ever had.

While I thought Jackie Kennedy regal,
VERY PRETTY and winowy (LOVE her voice)
--she had a punched in face and was quite "overrated" by the MEDIA as
White women always are.

Michelle is prettier and way sexier.

Check out Artist Daniel Edwards'
portrait of Michelle Obama

What pisses me off---

...is how they raved about Princess
Diana's looks.

Plain-looking but quietly attractive
Princess Diana, who to me certainly
was humble, striking and loveable
---but was never the GREAT BEAUTY
they've always claimed.

They PRAISED Princess Diana for
being so tall.

Remember that?

But Michelle's "Height", if you've noticed,
also been called "intimidating"
by some of the ESTABLISHMENT---a
b.s. comment I've dealt with my whole
life, but in reality the SHORTEST tug boat
women are the mean hyper ones--not us
tall black girls.

I hate how they praise tall blondes
and then castigate a tall Goddessa BonBon
for being "intimidating."

I had to turn 40 before I realized
that my HEIGHT is what makes people
notice me coming into a room--no matter
how bad I look that day--and that my
height is Beautiful; not intimidating
and not masculine.

I LOVE that Michelle is so tall!

MOST IMPORTANTLY...Michelle Obama
is a really brilliant; intelligent
woman.

She has immense common sense and
motherwit.

Some of us get annoyed (rubbed the
wrong way) by seeing a Black woman
up there SPEAKING LOUD; advancing
her opinions and unapologetically
reveling in her own image.

I LOVE IT!

Even when it was a woman whose
views I totally disagreed with
--Condoleezza Rice---I LOVED IT.

There nothing....

...absolutely nothing wrong
with Michelle Obama.

Brownbeauty:

at times it seems that
Barack is more into her
than she is into him.

Did it ever occur to you that THAT's
how she got him?

You young girls really need to get
a clue.

Honestly, Brownbeauty...

The only times I ever had a "substantial"
love interest in my life is when...

(a) I wasn't looking for one and (b) I
made it clear that I could give a fukk.

Men love a challenge.

And if you make yourself into a woman
whos's ABOUT SOMETHING---you'll find that
life is just as rewarding when
you don't have a man.

Right now--I'm happy being a Mom, a
Homemaker, a writer, and when I need
"recreation" with men, I have my "stable."

I've had the big gushing LOVE STORY;
I've had the rich abusive bad boy (and HOW!); I've had the playa-playa first love who
took my virginity; I've had the one
that got away; I've had MEN.

Now it's my turn to have MY SPACE and
a few Boy Toys on the string.

YOU WANT A MAN, Brownbeauty....

Don't ever come off "needy," "smothering,"
"neglectful of yourself" or worst of all
"desperate"--they'll abandon you.

(a)Be pleasant--whenever you see
him; smile.

(b)Gather knowledge so you have a
intelligent conversation

(c)Learn to cook--compile at least 5
knock-out recipes that nobody knows
how to make but you

(d) Look the best you can, but don't obsess
and don't waste time on people to whom
LOOKS are everything--those are the insecure
Men and they'll leave you no matter how
fabulous you are.

(e) Be NATURAL--when you feel like crying
DO IT; when you feel like Cussing DO IT;
when you feel Vulnerable--show it.

Men love Vulnerability and softness.

(f) Be FIRM about your convictions. Don't
ever compromise your beliefs for a man
--he'll lose respect and he'll leave you.

Men also love strong women; as long as
they're not bitter.

(G)Don't EVER give ultimatums.

(H)Don't EVER let a man see how you put
yourself together---don't let him watch
you get your hair done; don't let him
watch you put on makeup. It takes
away from your mystery and allure.

MYSTERY and BOUNDARIES will turn a man on more
than seeing you with green Mudd on your
face. Be provincial.

(I) Keep your Vagina tight--do crunches,
tighten your abdominal muscles.

If necessary--have it surgically tightened
back up when you get older. You'll always
want that Proficiency in bed.

(J) DON'T EVER GET PREGNANT unless it's
what you BOTH want.

#1--you'll lose your man if he's not
ready to have a baby.
#2--you'll be tied down once you have
a baby and other men won't value you
--stay baby-less as long as possible
or until you have the Financial Wealth
for it not to matter.

(K)Don't EVER accept abuse of any kind
---not Physical abuse and not Psychological
abuse. The minute you start accepting
abuse, you're in for a hell ride and it's
YOUR FAULT.

(L) Love wisely.

(M) Always remember that the way to
a man's heart is GREAT FOOD and really
GOOD BLOW-JOBS.

Ha ha!

I'm joking--but then again I'm not.

Happy 25th, Brownbeauty.

Hey Kola - long time! My family & I are well, and I hope you & your sons are enjoying good health and joy! Despite my absence, it's good to breeze through here and agree on one thing: Michelle Obama is amazing!

btw, while listening to CNN yesterday, someone mentioned Joe Madison's name. It made me recall a debate I once had with you on this forum. Mr. Madison lost a lot of weight and is looking far healthier these days. Kudos to him - I've always liked his radio program!

MOON...

Joe Madison is so great.

I worked with him last year in
forming the SSPP:

http://thesspp.org

He actually went to Juba, Sudan
and met my Commander (who has
since been assassinated).

He looks fantastic!!! But I'm
prejudiced. I love Joe.

MOON...

SO GLAD to hear about you and
your family---what a blessing.

I have changed a LOT Moon.

While I still come from a certain
place 22,000 miles from here and
still retain BASE/ROOT beliefs
---I have really found myself
getting to KNOW other types of
people and alternative living
and I find myself loving and
appreciating all types of
differences that once annoyed me.

I feel so guilty about being so
shitty towards you in the past.

Though on some things I was
right--my attitude wasn't always
called for.

In truth--a lot of stuff about
you reminded me of me.

I LIKED you and I do.

I'm just so grateful that you're
here and I get to tell you.

You're the BOMB, my sis.

I HEART You.

And I'm sorry.

Hey Cynique! How are you doing? I'm sure you've enjoyed the events of this past week! I've just been busy with the day-to-day :-)

About Michelle - she is so my type of gal! I love how intelligent, refined, graceful and sweet she is! I love how she (seems to be) such a wonderful wife and mother!

I'm not surprised why you're more impressed with her mother - however, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree :-)

I personally love Michelle. I think she is a breath of fresh air. As for the dress, I thought it was nice. Would I personally wear it? No but I am not shaped like Michelle. I would have looked like a frumpy bridesmaid :-)

Nothing wrong with Barack seeming like he's more into her, my momma taught me that thats the way it should be. Never fawn all over a man, let him do that with you. Appreciate him but dont act like you cant do without him or fuss over him all the time. It will make you look desperate and clingy. According to my Momma, she's doing the right thing.

I was going to stay clear of this girlee chit chat about dresses and thangs until Chocolate Latte hit us with what women are suppose to do :-). I think her momma knows best. A clingy women is a turnoff. Now there's a thin line between being clingy and expressing your love. The ego is a funny thang. I like being championed as the leader of the family but I also like the Queen to move around and do what she does. But check this out. If I was just named President and my first lady and I were doing our first dance in front of the world, she would have to hold me like she loved me. Look, I would have whispered in her ear to hold me tight. Shoot, we wouldn't have been doing the slow-grind but we would have stuck to each other like peanut butter and jelly. Hey, if we are going to set the stage and show the world how this is done, we would have done the damn thang. I saw Obama doing the bump and we all know that there's nothing wrong with a little bump and grind ...a little :-). That smug look she had wouldn't have played well with this black man. I would have probably said, "look her baby, don't have me show my ass up here. Give me some sugar and get close to daddy". But see, that's why he's there and I am ......

Michelle appears to be a black women that doesn't tolerate mess. Hey, she's from Chicago and them sisters don't play. They have their own way of dressing and don't care what others think about it.

Carey, do you think she looked smug? I think if she would have acted any other way she would have been Michelle the slut by the morning, by the afternoon the headlines would have read "Michelle Dirty Dances on Barack"

And by the evening news.....

"Michelle Gives Barack First Lap Dance as President"

Donna Brazille, Roland Martin and Whoopi would be all over their shows trying to give an overview of "Dancing and Black Culture"

Well Creamy Chocolate *lol*, I hear what you are saying and I am with you. I embelished my desires a wee bit. You asked if I thought see looked smug. Well, it's safe to say that she displayed a variety of expressions and emotions throughout the day. Disciple did a good job of explaining why that happened. I am sure she was fully aware of her surroundings and her position. Did I ever see bits of smugness ...sure. That's not to say that she walked around with her nose in the air. Nope, like I said, she's a black women that displayed all the emotions that comes with that title.

What I didn't see was a black women that was trying to act white. When the black marching bands came through, her and Barrack got their dips on.

I realize that there are many individuals like those you've mentioned that can't wait to find something negative to talk about.

In reference to the dance, I just wish she would have hugged him with a little passion ...that's all.

I don't know about you and your's but when me and mine hold each other while we dance, we fit ...you know what I am talking about.

When it's all said and done, she is going to be who she is. And **** what another ************er says about it. For real, when you think of your own life, does what that women, the one that can't stand your ass, have any real affect on who you truly are? Sure, I can hear all the "Yeah Buts" BUT ... in the end, it starts within.

See, it's all in the eye of the beholder. I could have sworn I saw you at one of those balls, sitting in a dark corner with a rapper. At first I thought it was Denzel until I saw his wife standing close to him. Come on Chocolate Puree', you can tell me, was that you? I won't tell nobody :-).

Michelle was making goo goo eyes at her man and had a look like new love on her face! She was blushing each time Barack whispered in her ear. Made you wonder if he was whispering,

"Yeah, baby wait til I get you home, lookin all good n ____. Yeah, girl, Imma_____that dress ___and then Imma______________and have that_____________make you___and ____and then start back at one, Baby.

I read an article about the Obama marriage in which Barak revealed that Michelle has an inner vulnerablity that appeals to him, making him feel protective.

He went on to imply that she tried to mask the fears which often plagued her but he could see flashes of terror in her eyes.

So maybe Michelle's confident facade is all an act. Is she smug or is she just withdrawn, a little frightened by the expectations she is trying to meet.

Their relationship obviously has yin and yang overtones.

LOL @ Mochacafe, Carey, A_woman

Your comments were a treat. I'm so happy for the President and First Lady.

Chicago represent! All Hyde Parkers stand up! Special shout-outs to Dixie Kitchen, 53rd St. Barber Shop and Rajun Cajun.

My fiance used to play basketball with Obama. He didn't think Obama's hoop skills were all that tight, but he was aiight. LOL

Plus, Michelle Obama (Robinson - Class of '81) went to my high school - Whitney Young Magnet. Although, I'm Class of '85, I recently found out we shared music instructors and were both members of the Renaissance Girls Chorus.

On 1/3/09, at a viewing party and reunion of former Renaissance Chorus members, our music teacher, Mrs. Robertson, played a DVD (which she also handed out a copy to each of us) of all the major concert performances throughout the years. Imagine our surprise and glee when we saw Michelle Robinson in one of the performances with her class on the tape.

It's wonderful to see a fellow Dolphin and Capricorn in the White House! Class of '85 is still live! South Side Boogie, baby.

*Steppin' in the name of love*

Kola, that bust of Michelle Obama is regal and divine. It is a breath-taking, beautiful piece of artwork. I just stare at it trying to figure out how Daniel Edwards captured such detail and surreal likeness of her image.

Michelle is THAT CHICK.

She's intelligent, loves her family, classy and shapely.

Someone in a previous post said something about people saying her sexuality being flagrant. LOL! I guess that dumb biz-nitch Palin sashaying her pasty flat white azz around in a short leather mini was the perfect example of feminity and grace.

She is the first lady and she fits it. To a "T". I wouldn't give a shyt if she wore a potato sack and flip flops to the inauguration....her SHAPE IS SO NICE IT WOULD HAVE DRAPED OVER HER FRAME NICELY...and I say this as a straight woman.
