My Excellency, Emperors and Generals
Dessalines, Machandal, L’ouverture, Christophe:

Dear Beloved Offspring of fate;
I plead my cause to you for I feel aged
So you ought to listen to me when I speak!
False witnesses are still rising against me!
Ah! Like a demon, I still feel brave
Even in their greater days
I shall combat colonized graves

O, my beloved offspring of fate!
My children may come
My children may go
Surely they shall return home
Hence, I shall remain strong on this mysterious soil
I shall not fall!

Fall? Oh no! Not like a cloud in heat
Not like the sun facing night. God forbid.
For I, Haiti, shall stand tough and face fear
Ah! Don’t you know I still possess hidden powers?
So, come again my beloved children!
Together, we shall triumph in this vicious wind
We shall shout. “We are Haiti! ...La Perle des Antilles!”
And even if thy name shall no longer be fêted by our neighbors
We shall never cave in
We shall never leave our souls behind in their dust

“...Behind in their dust?”
No! Not even if life sanctions get tougher
Not even if my children leave me breathing cool air in exile
Not even if they cross this two-faced ocean and forget all about us
Not even if the strange Bushes continue to plot against us
Not even if hurricane David hits us all over again
Not even if my neighbors can’t position themselves to salute us
Not even if the hot sun never sleeps
Not even if it scorches me to sleep
I, Haiti shall salute them all with strong warrior voice
But oh! May all those Bushes
Lose their lodge in my ancestor’s secret Masonic path!
Then, they shall only conspire with day at night
And I shall stand bold against white and half-white flowers and shout, “Let there be real light!”
And together, we shall see their true nature all over again
We shall stand taller than their kingdom again
We shall hold our spears in daylight
And stand in the center of their world again
Oh, they shall be afraid!
For they know in their hearts
We are the darkest pyramid from Africa land

I, warrior Haiti, shall stay right here
In this dust, in this heat, in this rage
In this darkness, starting at six

I, Haiti shall rise again, out of the serpent womb
They shall never respond to my words
Oh! How I longed to see my land excel!
Thus, I shall stay Fidel to my Beloved Excellencies
As we celebrate our 200 brave years

(1804-2004)
