This morning I run into one of the neighborhood characters. He has a past and a present--I usually see him walking through or hanging around the "hot" spots so I know he's no angel--but he works--jackleg carpentry and electrical work.

This morning he tells me he caught a burglary case going up in a boarded up house on my street.
He can't understand it--the house has been stripped by burglars and there is nothing in it to steal.

He says his intentions were innocent--then he says he went in looking for a two by four--zip bang. At least arguably a burglary but they would probably knock it down to tresspassing.

He sez one of the neighbors fingered him--had to as he was only in the house a while and cops came from everywhere to get him.

I don't think he is simon pure in this. He tells me he went in through the back way (why if he was not up to no good)and he was looking for a two by four--wasn't his house.

The lady who fingered him knows him and has had him do work for her in the past. I do't think she would have called the cops if she didn't think something wasn't kosher (though anything is possible)

Nobody was hurt. Nothing was taken. No harm really done. I could probably get her to remember things in a way that would be more favorable to him--

Should I?

Tell the neighbor lady what you would tell her if she was your mother, sister, daughter, or significant other.
