I happen to know Kola Boof and dated her for a few months last year. I am white.
She was writing "Days of Our Lives" at NBC Burbank before the scandal about Osama Bin Laden got her fired, and I am a Producer of KNBC News, the local afternoon newscast across the hall from Studio 2 (she was Studio 2 and I'm Studio 4).
I remember seeing this incredibly tall beautiful woman gliding like a swan across the NBC parking lot one afternoon and when I found out she was at "Days" I asked Kola's boss, my buddy, to bring her to lunch one day at the commissary and the three of us had a good time laughing and talking. After the lunch, my friend pretended to get called away so I could walk her back to the "Days" production offices which is a really long walk from the commissary and after I knew what office she was in, I had flowers sent to her the next day.
That weekend she let me take her out to Whiskey Pete's and we began seeing each other several times a week.
I honestly dont know how to begin to describe Kola. She is eccentric but she was a lot of fun to date and I'm glad we're still close friends. I liked her because she's sensuous in a foreign sense, she's very "old world" (?) and I liked her because she can cook and loves doing it, not because she's black.
Someone here described her as angry, but that's the last word I would use to describe her. Passionate and expressive about her beliefs is more like it. She's very sweet and soft spoken. people would be surprised she's extravagantly feminine in old fashioned way.
My only complaint was that she likes to write all night until morning and when she's doing that, it's hard to get her attention. Even if you make love, she will go back to writing her books and tune you out.
I never heard her say anything bad about black men, in fact to me, I always felt that if I was black then maybe we would be engaged by now or something, but I do understand that African women have different views about their blood hierarchy and racial duties than American black women. Kola has described black men as her "natural mate".
Hey Shirl, I can tell you that almost all of my African American male buddies think of black women as belonging to them, based on race and I know a lot of white men who feel the same way too. I think its normal for people from the same culture and race to feel that way emotionally even if it's not true intellectually.
However, I can vouch that Kola does like white guys. She treated me like a king and she still cooks me stuff and sends it over.
I never was bored by her and she's impossible to predict so I liked that a lot.

it was I who gave "life" to this board.
not to pat myself on the back, but its pretty clear who brought excitement to the board.
maybe ill start to posr regularly again, who knows?
