Since January, the Clintons have pummeled Barack Obama with racially tinged comments and questions about his character.
Hillary Clinton has questioned why he didn’t walk out on the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr.; why he “denounced” but didn’t “reject” Louis Farrakhan; and whether he is too chummy with the former radical Bill Ayers. She chastised his characterization of white working-class voters as being highfalutin and chided him for not agreeing to a street-fight-style debate.
Bill Clinton has called Obama’s stance on the war a fairy tale, dismissed an early primary win as mere Jesse Jackson redux and recently claimed that Obama was playing the race card against him. Some of this is valid, the result of Obama’s own missteps, but some of it is baffling.
The rhetoric appears to be trafficking in old fears and historic stereotypes. The unspoken (and confusing) characterization of Obama is that he’s militant yet cowardly; uppity yet too cool for school.
The question is this: Have white Democrats soured on Obama? Apparently not. Although his unfavorable rating from the group is up five percentage points since last summer in polls conducted by The New York Times and CBS News, his favorable rating is up just as much.
On the other hand, black Democrats’ opinion of Hillary Clinton has deteriorated substantially (her favorable rating among them is down 36 percentage points over the same period).
While a favorable opinion doesn’t necessarily translate into a vote, this should still give the Clintons (and the superdelegates) pause. Electability cuts both ways.
If Hillary Clinton should defy the odds (and the current math) and secure the nomination, she would be hard-pressed to defeat John McCain without the enthusiastic support of black voters, stalwarts of the Democratic base.
Getting that support could now be tricky.
Many blacks are aghast that their extraordinary support of Bill Clinton in the past would be repaid by the Clintons with racial innuendo (in a Times/CBS News poll after the salacious 1998 Starr report was released, his unfavorable rating among whites climbed to 52 percent; among blacks it was only 10 percent). Some who stood by him then now apparently feel betrayed.
It is no wonder then that McCain is making a place at the table for possible defectors, however unlikely. He began his “forgotten places” tour in Alabama’s Black Belt by literally dancing into the arms of an elderly black woman as she sang the gospel hymn “Do, Lord, Remember Me.”
Remember that moment if you ever see a bumper sticker that reads, “Repulsed into voting Republican.”

Nice analogy. The writers mindset is flawed and weak. I can understand the revulsion at the cheap antics of divisive political campaigning. I don't think we will ever have candidates debating one another about the issues and their proposals to affect change, reform and fix the problems of public concern without making personal attacks and mud slinging their primary tool. And if anyone thinks voting Republican or "not voting at all", is their response to getting back at the Clintons -they are fools blinded by self defeating revenge. End of subject.....

If Obama is robbed of the nomination, blacks will vote Republican, bigtime. Only a "fool" would think otherwise, and that fool would have to learn how to re-spell stupidity. |

I don't agree it's a given that all Blacks will vote Republican if Obama doesn't win. The pragmatists among us will take the lesser of the 2 evils and vote for whomever the Democratic candidate is because when all the smoke is cleared, the programs of Hillary and Obama are not that far apart. Other Blacks will sit at home and not vote at all.
Any black Democrat who will vote for white McCain out of spite deserves what they get. Any white Democrat who votes for white McCain will get what they've always had: the continued entitlement that comes with white skin. IMO |

A vote for McCain is not much different from a vote for KKKlinton. They both say they're moderates, and they both agree on many of the issues, e.g., gas taxes ect. The only real difference between these two candidates is KKKlinton is much more hawkish; KKKlinton wants to "Obliterate" Iran AND several other countries in the Middle East. McCain is actually the more moderate candidate.

IMO, a Congress made up of males will not allow Hillary Clinton to lead this country into another war. Whichever Democrat wins, the country will be run "by committee". |

Uhhhhhhhh.....Hold on....What's wrong with this post? Is this the same person who filled this forum with everyday love posts and threads of “I love Hillary confessions”? The same person who criticized Obama at every opportunity? Why the sudden flip flop and switch and bait.....????? Any takers on this one....???

(Sore losers my ASS! The Clintons have been treating Black people like their little HOES for years, sweet talking them when they need them and slapping them in the face when they feel like it.
Right now Bill Clinton is touring the backwaters of South Carolina sounding like Strom Thurmond.
If he was a Republican this would be bad but the message has to go out to Democrats that YOU WILL PAY IF YOU DO THIS TO THE MOST LOYAL VOTING BLOCK YOU GOT.
He would not DARE do this to the Jews because they would make him feel pain.
It is time to stand up or bend over and grab your ankles!
If you want the latter, you should make his plain and we can move on.. |

I will not forfeit my right to vote, and I will not vote for John McCain.
The Clintons are not forcing anybody to vote for Hillary. This is a choice voters will make on their own. Let the chips fall where they may.
I make it a point to distill all of the venom and overkill and over wrought emotion that chracterizes those who hate the Clintons. Furthermore, anybody who garners this type of reaction from white people and big wig Democrats can not be that much of a "threat" as president. Hillary will be kept in check.
I will not pass up a chance to participate in history and I will vote for a woman if I can't vote for a black man. If you gotta problem with this then vote for McCain. |

I will not vote for clinton no matter what, i would be one of those black people who would vote for mccain over hillary. i wouldn't consider it cutting off my nose to spite my face, i would consider it voting for the better of the choices. i will say this as i have said time and time again, don't rely on the government to guide your life ...protect yo' neck! |

Well, I'll make my selection on a matter of principle, not hate, Dobes.
When I have a choice between voting for a white b i t c h or a doddering old white man who is a Bush clone, then what can I say, I'll vote for Hilldawg since as you say, I won't be relying on "the government to guide my life".  |
