Where is everybody? There is no decrease in topics but defintely in participation. This forum used to be so active. Currently, if you post a really good subject it gets no more than 18 replies..20-40 is considered a lot now. I hate to see this forum just go out like this, it used to be my favorite place to lurk and engage in discussions. I don't care what anybody says but ever since Kola left so did the activity level..I wish she would have stuck around, she made things interesting just as much as the other members.. |

Why don't you e-mail your girl kola and suggest that she come back and re-hash all of her n i g g e r-stock colorism drivel, and favor us with some bizarre pictures from her gallery of grossness. I'm sure that would really perk things up since, of course, the staleness of the past is just the thing to freshen up the present.  |

I've noticed lately that that one prankster has not been posting under fake accounts as often. I think the weather is a factor also. Can't speak for other people's neck of the woods, but the weather's been BEAUTIFUL here in Philly!

For myself very often what I want to say has been posted already. Rather than post--"ditto" or "right on" or "jollygoodshow" I'll just move on.
I believe it is quality, not quanity, that determines how good a thread goes.
At least we are getting four or five posts per day.

I have been gone a heck of a long time. Yes it is something different now. Chrishayden and Cynique doing their thang but I think the traffic flow for www.aalbc.com has changed. "Where is everybody?" is a legitimate question...and how do we get them back should be the next one.

Well, a lot of the novelty of the Internet is wearing off and this includes discusssion forums. Things get repetitive and after a while, a site runs out of things to discuss. Even the shock value of visuals has lost its impact. And, so it goes...  |

Hey BB, I'm perhaps, the only one here who has been participating since day one. I can tell you participation on the boards is cyclical. They are long cycles, bt cyclical nonetheless. Even individual posters have their own cycles, it is all good and natural.
One dynamic that was not a factor in prior periods is that there are years of archives available now, so while the traffic continues to increase many of the popular posts are from prior periods this one for example is one of the more popular posted viewed a this month http://www.thumperscorner.com/discus/messages/2152/8293.html
In the past you had posters (people who contributed to the discussion), lurkers (people who frequently read the discussion but rarely if ever post) and now a new category of people who surf in to read a hot topic and don't come back unless they are lured by another hot topic.
BB just continue to contribute your thoughts and ideas and things will pick up -- they always do. Plus you never know someone my read something you started today, 5 year from now -- or even a century from now...

This is true. I had noticed this on several occasions when Kola left and then came back. Like her or not, she does generate a lot of traffic. I often times did not agree with her but she was good for the board. There was a lot of entertaining fist fights and heated debates when she did contribute.

Ha! Ha! Ha! This is true. She was obsessed with skin color, black male/white female relationships (BF/WM or Non-BM relationships were acceptable to her -couldn't the logic of that out) and the issues of black women were the core and driving impetus of her diatribes and rants. She was relentless about those subjects.

True again. I've commented about this before. I've often looked at the archives and there was a LOT of activity going on here. Some of it was very amusing. I remember I used to ramble through the board and make one or two comments here and there for about the first year. Perhaps as bro Troy has suggested, activity may pick up again.

Kola Boof is nothing like Cynique described
her in that thread though. I honestly
don't remember Kola being that intelligent
and kindhearted.
It was touching the things she posted as the debate went along. I guess it is a shame
the media reporters forced her to stop being online.

And spare me the attempt to try and sanitize kola, "enchanted". She posted some of the grossest pictures I've ever seen on this board. She also went ballistic on the subject of colorism, "snot color" being her favorite way to describe light skinned people even as she took the opportunity to sing her own praises.
I'd be the first to agree that the fire works kola boof ignited was entertaining and I got a kick out of sparring with her. I said if folks are into deja vu, they should entreat kola to come back. Ain't no skin off my back.  |

Enchanted, maybe I'll post frequently visited posts from prior years many of the older posts are viewed more than the newer ones.
Enchanted, I'd agree that Kola did add a lot to the board.
However Cynique is right about the photos. I also did not like the way she outted some posters or was always bringing my name up. I can see it now; "Troy Johnson knows this about me, Troy Johnson know that about..." LOL
I still can't get over how much Kola really pissed Thumper off -- Honestly I'm not sure why he let her get to him so, but Kola does know how to push someone's buttons. And she could be brutal with her words.
I'd get emails, phone calls all the time over something Kola wrote. That got on my nerves -- cause most of the time I'd not read the post and I really did not have time or willingness to deal with the drama.
But drama draws attention and Kola did that.

Hey, maybe you can hold a virtual "open house" where you invite all old posters and old/current lurkers to post. In the blogosphere there has been for the last several years a "National De-lurking Day" (or something like that) where folks are just encouraged to drop a comment instead of just reading. |

Nice retro thread Troy. I can appreciate this. As you can see from the selected topic, things were a lot different back then. Kola was all about drama and tenacity but she was a driving force that solicited responses, both supportive and negative. As I have always stated that I did not always agree with her, but she was uncompromisingly passionate in her views which often times bordered on demagoguery.

IMO, the place died when ABM left a while
back. Kola's been gone for ages, but ABM
was the last of the 'old school downhome blacks'
and even with Kola being a foreigner I consider
her to be in that same category because things
she said were the same stuff my grandmother and
most other "nappy 'n brown" people have always
said. We just never had anybody to say that
stuff loud and public in a long, long time.
She even went on tv saying the stuff!
I notice that every African that came to this
forum agreed with Kola as well as the dark folks,
too. Not everybody hated Kola and considered
her the Anti-Christ, but to each his own.

Oh, puleeze, "enchanted". Get real. There's no vast gulf between ABM and Chrishayden's take on things. And it's not like ABM was in total sync with Kola's colorism views or with her caustic criticism when it came to black men. And did you forget that Troy still posts here??
You keep trying to make it appear that Kola has moved on when she pops up on this board all of the time. She's even been known to use her own name on some of these occasions.
Nobody around here hated Kola or considered her the anti-christ contrary to your veiled attempt to portray her as a martyr or victim. Most people attributed her hystrionics to her being a wanna-be diva. Certainly everybody agreed that she was good for a few laughs. We had sense enough to not take her as seriously as she took herself. |

Bro ABM is still around. He posts once in a while. I’m not sure what you mean by 'old school downhome blacks' but I enjoyed his wit and satire. Although we did not agree on everything, I did share a number of his beliefs and positions. I miss him too.

That’s not true. I hear Negroes spewing the same beliefs all the time. She said nothing innovative nor revolutionary. She just said it. But even though I knew a lot of it was divisive, contradictory and offensive, I still had no problems with her saying what she said. I’m a big free speech kinda guy. I believe everyone has a right to voice their opinions whether I agree or not.

Enchanted, ABM posted less than two weeks ago. Don't write him off so quickly.
Actually I just reviewed the logs. To see if the actual data supports BB original implication. I don't think that it does.
I looked at people who have averaged at least one post a week since Jan 2004. This does not mean that they actually posted once a week it just mean that they posted on avergae 52 times a year for 4.5 years -- which is a lot.
There were over 50 posters, who have contributed that much to the boards. More than half inlcuding Kola Boof have posted within the last month. Kola's last post was April 8th my birthday. I'll take that as a birthday present

BB while the data shown or the traffic certainly does not inidcate that the site is less popular.
However, the discussion boards are different than in the past. But everything is different than it was in the past. My posts from 2004 are different than my posts from 2008.
Now you may have a preference for the way the boards were in the past. I don't.
Well to be more specific I don't look at it they way you do. It would be like saying you loved your child better when they were a baby than you did when they were a teenager.
There may be aspects you prefered but overall you probably love the child just the same over time -- if not more...

Tell em, Troy! You'd think that someone my age would be who was moping around, yearning for the good ol days when the good ol gang was one big happy family, engaging in scyntillating rapport and stimulating discussion. Instead, younger folks like BB seem reluctant to acknowledge that time brings change and that pining for the past is an exercise in regression. You'd think they wouldn't have to be reminded of all of the recent threads about current subjects with interesting input from newer posters.
But, nooooo. To the fretters, it's better to gripe about the how it was. I suppose it's just human nature to want to cling to what "used-to-be" because in the thrall of nostalgia, the present can never compare with the past.
Who'd have thought old Cynique would be the one advising young malcontents to "get over it"! It's a new day! |

AND the only reason Kola was so popular is let's be honest now, SHE TOLD SO MANY STUPID TRANSPARENT EASILY DEBUNKED LIES and exaggerated on the truth so much,that even lurkers couldn't help descending from lurkerland to post how dumb Kola was to post such outrageous lies. Like the picture of her hideaway mansion which was really a painting, or her boyfriend cliff, or her being shot at and taking an oozy out of her dress and returning fire at her would be assassins, or how she was in hiding because they were after her, but she posted on the boards everyday, or how she ate lion burgers at Osama's diner, or how she was the star speaker and wore a certain outfit but then posted pics of herself at the said event wearing something totally different, or how she would talk to herself pretending she was talking to nafisa goma, and stuff like that.
KOLA WAS A PERSON THAT PEOPLE LOVE TO HATE cuz she's so crazy! So yes it was fun calling Kola out on all of her craziness. People couldn't believe that she was actually as crazy as she posted. Oh I forgot her boyfriend Cliff whom she met when she turned the corner in her car and her titty fell out and he slipped it back in for her...HAHAHAHHAHHAHAHA! KOLA KOLA KOLA...only you! |
