...Or so it will seem at this point.

The "Elliot Ness of Albany" the "Great White Hope", Elliott Spitzer crashed and burned today. Spitzer was caught up in some prostitution ring -- you can’t make the stuff up.

Say the top hookers in the ring charged $5,500 an hour - AN HOUR!

Our Lieutenant Governor is Brother, from Harlem - David Paterson

Interestingly, and I just learned this, Paterson is legally blind in one eye and completely blind in the other. I shook his hand in a bar a couple of years ago and I did not notice the the disability (then again I was probably "blind" that night myself)

He is a Clinton supporter, but he was queued up for Hillary's Senate seat, so I understand. Since Hillary's will be keeping that senate seat warm for a few more years - it has worked out very well for Paterson.

LOL @ you saying you were blind that night, Troy.

Spitzer is a trip. And, I'm not sure that the hookers were necessarily giving $5K an hour worth of mind-blowing sex, as much as they were being compensated sufficiently to keep quiet and discreet.

It's always the guys who take on a pious demeanor and purport to be so high on family values who get caught in these sleazy situations. It's like the reason they are so vigilant is because they are trying to repress their own lust.

Ferociouskitty, of course you are right -- silly me for allowing my fantasy of imagining what sex that is valued at $5.5K an hour must be like.

I was thinking about looking into saving up for maybe 15 minutes worth. Then again if it is THAT good all I probably need is a whiff LOL.

Seriously though, these sex scandals are a waste of time, money and resources. Now if Eliott is using state resources (money, facilities, employeees) for his freaky predilections or if was adversely impacting his job -- I'm not convinced we should care. And we defintely don't need to know.

Can you image the embarrasment this wife and kids are being put through due largely to the media.

Eliott's wife stood by his side today. Do you think if the roles were reversed and Elliot knew his wife had just paid $5K to get some well hung lad to "do" her, that he would be standing in front of a camera supporting her.

LOLOLOL @ Troy! Remember that Chris Rock scene in, I think, "I'm Gonna Get You Sucka" where he is negotiating how many fries, rib tips or something he can get for a fraction of the advertised price? I guess that'd be you with one of these ladies LOL

BTW, word to the wise: the young ladies of the day/night in Chris's neighborhood frequently offer bargains so you two might wanna converse :-)

To me, Spitzer's indiscretion provides quite an ironic twist to the democratic presidential campaign. HRC huffed and puffed when BO didn't immediately distance himself from Louis Farrakhan's endorsement, considering LF's antisemetic views. Now, I wonder, how will HRC denounce Spitzer's ardent support of her on the grounds of adultery, considering her own husband's very public, similar indiscretion while in office, no less...

If I were BO's campaign manager, I'd be all over this.

I think people are more forgiving of a horny guy than a religious bigot.
As far as Spitzer's indiscretion goes, "boys will be boys". He got caught and there, but for the grace of god, go half of the politicians in this country. I'm not sure Obama would pass up a chance to get his freak on with a highly-skilled call girl. It's the nature of the beast.

In fact, Hillary could probably dispel a lot of negative misconceptions about herself, if it came out that she was a hot mama who liked young meat.

It's not so much the sex.

You know how it is in this society. If you get it free or cheap you don't think it's worth anything.

You pay $5,000 you are going to make sure you enjoyed it--or at least you'll tell yourself you did.

Plus the idea that not just any bum is laying around with them--I bet if these idiots could see some of the men these gals are hooked up with they would crap on themselves.

Well, good luck to bro Paterson. Spitzer was a gung-ho prosecutor who went after the big boys. Now they are furiously high fiving one another and opening the bottles of vintage Champagne after the news hit the air ways. But that was to be expected.

I had no problem with Spitzer since he went after the "sacred cow" of criminal behavior; white collar crime. Which seems to be looked upon "as boys being boys". And to tell you the truth, I could care less about his trysts with $5K hookers. But he crossed the line for two MAJOR reasons: 1.) He built his career on being a being tenacious legal Captain America, relentlessly fighting crime at it's highest levels. 2.) As governor of the state (and former master-kick-ass-take-no-prisoners AG), he was held to a higher standard. One that cannot be compromised nor breached my the temptations of luscious $5 hookers (paid with cash???). Oh well, nothing knew here. Just ask Bill Clinton, Larry Craig, David Vitter, Mark Foley, Bob Livingston, Gary Hart........

Yes, good luck to David Paterson. He is a true inspiration.

Hail to the (new) chief!

With New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer's resignation, Lt. Gov. David Paterson will become the first African-American governor of the state and the fourth in U.S. history.

"Like all New Yorkers, I am saddened by what we have learned over the past several days," Paterson, 53, said Wednesday in a statement issued by his office.

"On a personal level, Gov. Spitzer and Silda have been close and steadfast friends. As an elected official the governor has worked hard for the people of New York.

"My heart goes out to him and to his family at this difficult and painful time," the statement continued. "I ask all New Yorkers to join Michelle and me in prayer for them.

"It is now time for Albany to get back to work as the people of this state expect from us"...

Paterson was elected New York's first African-American lieutenant governor on November 7, 2006, on a ticket headed by Spitzer. As lieutenant governor, Paterson led the administration's charge in several areas, including stem cell research, alternative energy, domestic violence and the role of minority- and female-owned businesses.

Paterson earned state and national attention for getting a 283-year-old burial ground of Colonial-era African-Americans in lower Manhattan designated a national historic landmark.

Paterson is a leading advocate for the visually and physically impaired. His 2004 speech at the Democratic National Convention marked the first time a visually impaired person addressed the convention. He is a member of the American Foundation for the Blind, serves as a member of the Democratic National Committee and is a board member of the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee.

According to the National Governors' Association, previous African-American governors were P.B.S. Pinchback, who served as acting governor of Louisiana for 36 days in 1872-73 while the sitting governor was being impeached; L. Douglas Wilder of Virginia, who became the nation's first elected black governor in 1990; and Deval Patrick, the current governor of Massachusetts...

Well, Paterson certainly sounds like my kind of guy. I wish him luck!

This scandal is just another example of how quixotic the times are. The unexpected keeps happening and the "mighty are falling."
Is this a harbinger of what will happen in the November election? Will the Democrats in order to keep the party from dissolving into chaos, select neither Obama nor Clinton but, instead, settle on a compromise candidate who can unite the warring factions and salvage a chance at victory over the Republicans???
Obama and Hillary are inflicting the kind of wounds on each other that will not easily heal.

True, that, Cynique. Strange times. Speaking of which: have you seen this?
