Ya'll must think y'all got some FOOLS up in here

From the Huffingtonpost.com

And, by the way, I've studied under more than one feminist scholar, and NONE OF THEM are supporting Senator Clinton - BECAUSE she is running on her husband's resume, the very ANTITHESIS of feminism.

Yes, it is true that Sen. Clinton has travelled a path to power that elite women here and in other countries often travel--through their husbands, brothers, and fathers. But a case could also be made that she is the "better Clinton" and in a different society--one not characterized by sexism--she would have been/felt free to pursue her political career and Bill would be the one now trying to follow.

So, yes. A "real" feminist can be a Clinton supporter. And an Obama supporter. Even a McCain supporter. If true feminism is in large part about women's humanity, intelligence, and freedom to make choices then the answer is yes.

If she was about anything she would have kicked Bill to the curb and gone out on her own--she was a lawyer. She'd been first lady.

No. She's his SLAVE. She LOOOVES that fool and the way he treats her.

He's a pimp! He has treated the black community like his ho, slapping it around, lying to it, and coming back to it to coo sweet words when he needs it--and here you are calling yourself a femnist and going for it.

For shame to call yourself a feminist and support a pimp!

Oh shut up, chrishayden. What would you do if you didn't have blogs to brainwash you??

Hillary has exploited and used her husband to her advantage. Her ambition was more important to her than his fidelity. Any true feminist could discern these implications. These pseudo twats don't know a ruthless
b i t c h when they see one.

And it's already been established that the white feminist community is a joke. The way they rationalize not supporting Hillary is typically feminine and reeks of cattiness. Incidentally you're also a joke. YOu really think you're an expert on feminism.

What is there about Hillary that she has accomplished in her own right that suggest that she is the "better Clinton"? EVERY significant position she's achieved has been via being the wife of a popular, smart and charimatic president/governor.

Women like Supreme Court Justices Sandra Day O'Connor and Ruth Bader Ginsberg and Speaker the House Nancy Pelosi are much more honorable and credible standard bearers of Feminism than Hillary. Because NOBODY attributes their position and success to their husbands. Hell, most of us don't even know who the hell their husbands ARE.

Well, folks, what is it about Obama that elevates him to being a cadidate for canonization. Or about any of the men candidates running for office. Why is a woman held to a higher standard? We're talking politics here. She's not running for the position of Mother Superior. And I've never heard Clinton refer to herself as a feminist. She's a re-elected senator and her being hard as nails stands her in good stead.

I am talking right out of the gate, before either began their political careers. When they were in their caps and gowns, was she brighter than Bill? More ambitious? More passionate about politics? I don't know, but some have argued that she was but, like so many women, put her career on simmer earlier on in favor of his aspirations.

And I am not talking so much of HRC as a feminist herself, but of the possibility that a voter who describes her- or himself as a feminist could support her and still be considered a feminist. (I thought that was what Chris was asking, but sometimes I do not get Chris's meaning :-) ) And I still say the answer to that is yes.

And just to be clear, I describe myself as a liberal (not necessarily a "Democrat"), a feminist/womanist, an African American woman, and an Obama supporter.

I know that Sandra Day O'Conner's husband has developed Alzeimers and has been put in a nursing home. And since being committed there, he has become attached to one of his female inmates. Sandra has no problem with this. She just wants him to be happy because he had to give up his lucrative legal career to be a house husband when she became appointed to the supreme court.

BTW, chrishayden, I make no excuses for the derogatorty names I use when referring to white feminists because I think they are frauds. I don't consider myself a feminist and the reason I'm not one is because, unlike those we claim to be feminists, I realize that to be equal with men, women have to come down a notch.

Cynique:

Did you mean to call the woman in the nursing home an "inmate"??? :-)

Interestingly, there is a current Oscar-nominated film that explores a similar theme (but the "inmate" in this case is the female spouse w/Alzheimer's who falls for a male "inmate"), "Away from Her". I haven't seen it, but my s.o. says he really liked it "even though it's a chick flick <wink,>."

Well, I thought about what term to use. What should it have been? A fellow "patient"? The lady has Alzeimer's, too. "resident"? what?

Well, actually, my hesitancy stemmed from inmate as it applies to an insane asylum. I didn't think it was politically correct to call Alzeimer patients "crazy".

There was another picture that had a simliar theme revolving around a character with Alzeimer's, based on the bestselling novel "The Notebook".

My great-grandmother had Alzheimer's, and she wasn't crazy; she was comedy. In many ways, it was a relief for my family, like laughing to keep from crying. She was very prim and proper and fashionable in her pre-Alz days, but transformed into a veritable 90-plus-year-old potty-mouth. With the nerve to have a raging libido (well, the nerve to talk like she had one anyway). :-)

There's no way we can POSSIBLY know what all that means or how it all would play out. But I recall hearing or reading somewhere that Hillary bragged to someone that Bill would someday be president when they first started DATING. That suggests to me that she found him to a very FORMIDABLE man. And I've also read and heard Clinton is estimated to have the highest IQ of anyone to have every been president, that he rates well within the genius range.

Hell. Dude was a RHODES SCHOLAR!

Look. I have LOTS of criticism of Bill Clinton. I think he had an opportunity to be a great president and he just flatout BLEW it. But I just don't see any evidence or indication that Hillary is in ANY way superior to him.

If anything, I see quite the OPPOSITE of that.

Yvettep,

I too think a good feminist can be a supporter of Hillary Clinton. But I can also see why another good feminist might not think as much about her as one might assume a good feminist should.

It would help if people could absorb the biological reality that men and women are not the same, that their brains are wired differently. Then they would stop trying to compare them to each other.

Then why is Hillary still leading in the national polls? And why has she won in the most populous states? I've never seen her read a speech. She is quite able to think on her feet and has a lot of poise. But none of this matters to people who are bedazzled by style instead of substance, which is what the suave glib Obama has going for him.

Hillary is not "done". Trust. Her influence will be felt at convention time. In a way she should be relieved to be out of the line of fire. Now we'll see if Obama's thin resume can withstand the Republican onslaught.
