(Tonya: After lying in Monday’s debate Obama finally comes clean, calling his dealings with the slumlord "a mistake". Not surprisingly tho he later tries to downplay it with more wacky, screwball accusations. He’s a full-blown Conspiracist now, gol.)

Barack Obama mired in claims over link to 'crooked slum landlord'

Barack Obama was pushed back on the defensive yesterday trying to explain his connections with Antoin “Tony” Rezko, a Chicago property developer who goes on trial for fraud, extortion and money laundering next month.

The Democratic presidential candidate acknowledged that it had been a mistake to buy land next to his $1.6 million home in 2005 from the wife of a man reported widely at the time to be under investigation. The deal reportedly netted a profit for Mr Obama worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

“In terms of appearances,” he said yesterday, “I should not have entered into any kind of agreement with him.” His campaign has already given away $85,000 in Rezko-linked donations to charity, including $40,000 as recently as last weekend. But in an ill-tempered TV debate on Monday night Hillary Clinton seized on the issue, saying her rival had done legal work for “your contributor, Rezko, in his slum landlord business”.

Yesterday Mr Obama awoke to a barrage of fresh claims in Chicago newspapers and the Los Angeles Times, apparently prompted by a memo from the Clinton camp on Tuesday. These alleged that he had received up to $200,000 from Mr Rezko and his associates.

In a series of TV appearances Mr Obama promised to return any contributions linked to his former friend, saying that when he first knew Mr Rezko “nobody had an inkling that he was involved in any problems”. He added: “I had nothing to do with it — and Senator Clinton knows that.” Mr Obama’s campaign believe that the allegations have been dragged to the surface by Mrs Clinton as part of a strategy to tarnish his reputation at a crucial stage of the Democratic presidential race.

His aides point out that the Clinton campaign had itself been forced to return almost $1 million in donations raised by the convicted fraudster Norman Hsu. But Mr Obama is showing signs of frustration after spending much of this week complaining about Bill Clinton distorting his words.

Asked by a reporter on Tuesday if the former President was “trying to get into his head”, Mr Obama replied testily that the question was a “cheap stunt”.

At a campaign event in Lexington, before Saturday’s primary in South Carolina, he compared his position to that of John McCain, who was smeared with false allegations eight years ago during a notoriously dirty Republican primary in the same state. He had gone “through this thing in 2000 — and I’m going through it now”, said Mr Obama, citing the circulation of “scurrilous” e-mails claiming that he is a secret Muslim.

His campaign has since had to produce leaflets explaining, under the heading “committed Christian”, how he “accepted Jesus Christ into his life”.

In an interview Mr Obama said: “We have no way of tracing where these e-mails come from; they somehow appear magically wherever the next primary or caucus is.”

There is no evidence to link the e-mails to Mrs Clinton’s supporters. But she — and her husband — have sought to contrast Mr Obama’s “untested” candidacy with their own record. “I’m used to taking the incoming fire,” she said this week, “I’ve taken it for 16 years.”

I'd match Obama's Resko misdealings up against those of the near ENDLESS assortment of naredowells, villians and evildoings for which the CLINTONS have been connnected to and cavorted with...ANYDAY.

And PUUULEASE don't get me started on that high-paid ambulance chaser EDWARDS...

Obama's only real dilemma here is he's tried to keep things above dirt level. But, believe me, if he started to sling mud with those 2, when it's all said/done his shirt would be a lot CLEANER than those of Hillary and Edwards.

"Obama's only real dilemma here is he's tried to keep things above dirt level."

Get real. We're talking about a guy that once dealt with crack-blow and slumlords. The idea that he was ever 'above dirt level' is a media and cyber generated 'fairy tale' in an election that‘s seeming more and more like 'bizzaro world' by the day, I swear.

Just another of your MYRIAD, BASELESS, BVLLSH*T opinions, girl.

I don't know WTF they're putting in the Hillary Kool-Aid you've been chuggin'. But you really awtah back of off some of that sh*t for a minute.

And even if "We're talking about a guy that once dealt with crack-blow and slumlords." were true about Obama that would still put him several LEAGUES above what Hillary ("Hold her...") and Bill ("...so I can rape her.") Clinton have pulled.

I wish during during one of her attempts to smear him with Resko, Obama would ask Hillary does she HONESTLY believe ALL of the women who've accused Bill of rape and sexual assaulting them are lying.

Then let's see whether her response make her appear to be a "Wonder Woman" in the eyes of naive foks like you.

My, my! Look at the jugular veins popping. Some people just can't get pass the idea that it's Hilllary who is running for president, not Bill. The same Hillary who they say acquired no experience during Bill's presidency.

And do they really think that the way Michelle Obama hen pecks her husband that she won't be behind the scene pulling his strings should he win. The same goes for Edwards, if his wife survives her cancer.

Some people are really naive.

Or - his psyche has morphed into Obama. He empathizes with him so much that he has become him!
