Well, it’s that time again. Time to buy a book for my son’s holiday gift. In the past several years it’s been a Walter Mosley book, either Easy or Paris/Fearless. But it looks like Mr. M ain’t trying to help me out this year [yeah, I’m still in denial about Easy!]. His ventures into different genres don’t go over so well with my son – even Killing Johnny Fry.

Ferociouskitty, I have a request please. You’ve mentioned that Mr. Mosley is your new boyfriend. More power to ya and I ain’t mad! BUT . . . while I know new relationships take a little extra time to grow and stuff so y’all probably busy [wink] and stuff but I’d really appreciate it if during your little pillow talks and things you’d put in a good word for us Easy fans . . . just asking.

My son likes fantasy also so maybe I’ll take a look at Steven Barnes for something. Any suggestions?

LOL, Crystal!!! I'll do what I can. First, I have to get him to acknowledge my existence. After that, anything is possible, right? ;-)

In the meantime, what about these?

"Incognegro" or "The Great Negro Plot" by Mat Johnson

"The Beautiful Struggle" by Ta-Nahesi Coates

Or, for fantasy, "Acacia" by David Anthony Durham? I'm not familiar with his work, but that title and his name keep popping up among writers whose work and opinions I respect.

I have a name for you as well but we don't want to tell all our business *wink*.

A poem for Crystal Clear & Kitty

the quiet voice

I hear the voice
A quiet choice
Easy to ignor
Yet I explore

Conscience says yes
It hurt no less
Pain I detest
I wake, no rest

Discomfort moves me
I wish to flee
Wrong says I could
Right says I should

It's lonely,"right"
no one to blame
Conscience shines a light
Bright, I feel the pain

I am going down
Visit my soul
It's right, can't fight
I was wrong...
I am sorry

~Carey
