Hello All

I like Kam, he takes no prisoners.

The current movie scene has been bleak so I was searching for a movie that I may have overlooked and decided to checkout Kam.

I doubt if there are two people in the world that will agree on every movie so I walked into his reviews with an open mind.

I can be tough on movies and as I mentioned Kam doesn't play favorites. Lets see, He has given 0 stars to movies that had major star power. Big STARS, BIG ZEROS...check it out:

Halle, not a "perfect stranger"..Ker-Plunk..Zero.
Eddie Murphy...zap...Zero.
Chris Rock...pre-nup...Zero.
50 cents...no change...Zero.
Cedric The Entertainer...don't laugh...Zero.
Who's that (your) caddy...boggy...Zero.

Kam is not without some compassion but the beat goes on:

Samuel Jackson...don't holler Sam...1/2 star.
Woopie & Paul Moonie..Homies,the "ie's"...1 star.
Will Smith...stop drinkin'...1 star.
Terrence Howard...where's your pride...1 star.
Common & Alisa Keys...1 Ace (smokin')...1 star.(I liked it)
Martin Lawrence...Roscoe "Stinkins"...1 star.

Now I have a few surprises. Well, I liked them yet Kam keep the trottle down.

American Gangster...shot down...1 1/2 stars.
Great Debators...I am crying...2 stars.

Is there anyone that doesn't like Harry Potter...4 stars.

Kam's pen doesn't run out of red ink when it comes to documentaries:

The Boys Of Baraka...No Stars...wasn't even worth a zero.

The following, well...

Snakes On A Plane....4 STARS! I haven't seen this movie. The title just didn't hit me. I'll have to give it a look-see.

"EL Cantante" ... 4 STARS! I guess ol'girl has more than a nice A$$. I missed this one as well.

A Raisin In The Sun...4 STARS! I respect Kam but I have to shake my head on this one. I just can't do "Diddy", the boy can not act!

Honeydripper...4 STARS! Maybe Kam will allow me to switch this one with The Great Debators. I was entertained by "Honeydripper" but....

How about these, I didn't see them:
Balls Of Fury...3 1/2 stars!? ...anyone?
Carmen & Geoffry...4 STARS! I am going to check this out.

I agree:
Crash...4 STARS
Traffic
Bastards Of The Party..4 Stars
The Pursuit Of Happyness...3.5 stars
ATL...3.5 stars.
Meet The Brown...3 stars.

IMO, Kam is a good writer and a good reviewer. I am off to check out a few of his 3-4 star picks.

I was not exactly overwhelmed with the Potter movies either.

I disagreed with Kam, vigorously, on some of his reviews The Great Debators was one of them.

I also disagreed, on these boards, with Kam ranking two of Tyler Perry's flicks ahead of The Great Debators and Talk to Me (perhaps my favorite movie of that year.

In Kam's review of The Secret Life of Bees http://reviews.aalbc.com/the_secret_life_of_bees.htm he said he cried. Rare is the movie that even chokes me up, but I expected to be moved somewhat. I was not. I though Queen Latifah was mis-cast. Dakota Fanning was the best thing in the movie but she is not enough to carry a flick.

I'm actually growing tired of seeing rappers and other singers performing the roles of actors. None of the white actors are rappers or singers, by trade, why to virtually all of the black lead roles have to go to singers?

Kam is a good reviewer. He is sensitive, conscience and pretty liberal. I take this into account when readig his reviews. That is the benefit of having many reviews writen by the same reviewer -- it allows you to better asset their tastes and use their opinions to your advantage.

I am seldom moved to tears by a movie. I shaded that comment but I really do not think I've ever been moved to tears. I remember so many people saying how they cried while watching John Q. It was a terrible movie with a stupid plot and I just couldn't get with it.

The Secret Life of Bees was just an OK movie. Another "happy ever after". It had it's moment but I wouldn't tell anyone to rush out and see it. Mark Walburg came over from the rap/singing side. Queen Latifah looks like Queen Latifah in most roles she plays. After "Set It Off" I had high hopes. I agree, Dakota Fanning carried the movie. The "Praise night" church thang was waaay stupid. The acting was poor. I do like to look at Ms. Keys. That reminds me, I loved her role in Smokin' Aces. Common did his thang as well.
The movie is not for all but I got a kick out of it.

Okay, I am not a Harry Potter fan either.

Comedy is hard to judge. I just purchased "Balls Of Fury". I think I have a feel for Kam's funny bone and as of lately we don't see eye to eye. We will see.

I didn't see Kam's review of Talk To Me. I would give the movie 3 stars.

I am not even going to spend any more time, other than to write these few words about Tyler Perry's films....He' Pimpin" The Public.

just once, I would love to see black people get behind a black man who is doing extremely well and push him to do even better, instead of trying to tear him down. TP isn't doing anything that the white man hasnt been doing for years. Sold that sorry Harry Potter bs to the masses and they ate it up. Now that's pimpin the public to the nth degree...

LOL @ A_womon

I see you got up early to give us that. Well Ms. womon, stupid is what stupid does. Now I am not saying he's not a good man. His pictures have a place in many hearts. But I don't think it's unfair to give an opinion about his product. Two wrongs have never made it right, what does his skin color have to do with the issue. So what if a green monster slapped yo momma, does that make it right for a yellow one? Didn't you notice 3 black men say they didn't like Harry Potter? His financial status is not in question. It's the quality of his movies.

Pimpin' and Pandering is outlawed in many states but obviously, as you mentioned, some fly under the radar.

I can assume you are a great fan of Mr. Perry....huh?

Yes, I like what TP has accomplished. How many black men do you know who have a hit TV show, which is now in syndication also by the way, AND is doing alright at the theater box office simultaneously? Hmmmmm. So no, I'm not going to bash him. Maybe his fluff will open the doors for that next serious brother who has a story to tell.

(Just what Bumpy Johnson, Nicky Barnes, The Notorious B.I.G., O.J. Simpson, R. Kelly, and Reverend Ike used to say.

I bet Bill Cosby loves TP, too--when he ain't hatin' on him.

TP got his money. He ain't got nothin else comin'

(Just as long as said brother dresses in drag.

I don't get it. Black WOMEN are always screaming about how they are disrespected, and here is a MAN dressing in DRAG making all of y'all look like pot smoking, cussin, gun totin, savages.

Apparently, that's YOU!

Obama don't need to win. Have y'all trying to hang around the White House?

Come on!

Tyler Perry is in the business of making money. Like the bad boys of the NBA and the NFL, he is not a sterling example of a role model, or has he opted to be in the vangaurd of uplifting black literature. He's capitalist, not a crusader.

I notice he's been hanging out a lot with Oprah but her social consciousness when it comes to being charitable doesn't seem to have rubbed off on him.
