Don't Hate the Game: Sports Fiction by Black Men

Dear Potential Contributors,

I'm publishing an anthology of urban sports fiction called "Don't Hate the Game." My goal is to entice men--especially Black males to read more.

I also want to showcase the work of talented Black male authors who may not be getting the exposure they deserve. This is the first anthology of its kind, and I'd love to have your participation!

I'm looking for sports releated fiction approx. 2,000-7,000 words long.

The subject matter is wide open as long as it has a sports related element. Of course the more drama and conflict the better! This is a great opportunity for your work to reach new audiences.

Due date is January 1, 2009. If you are interested, please contact me at: michaeltowens@yahoo.com

Thank you,
Michael T. Owens

I have a story in this one, and I'm working on a top 10 list of sport's moments for it. This should be fun.

Too bad women can't contribute to this anthology. I have a story about what happened when I finally met my basketball idol.

Yvettep-Days before I was to meet my American Idol, an L.A. Laker (who shall remain nameless) I was a breathless, bragging nervous wreck.
Afrocentric, intelligent, and supremely talented, this man represented to me the sweetness and joy of black manhood.

I told everyone who would listen I going to meet him and scoured bookstore after bookstore looking for for all of his books. I could not wait to shake his hand, look in his eyes, be in his presence.

When the moment of truth finally arrived, this all too human jock, look down at me and the dozens of other fans there to greet him like we were something the cat had drug in. LOL. He was as warm as the frozen tundra.

Moral of the story? Superstars are best dreamed about and not met.
