Das riiiiite...read about it in the NYT today. Ol' girl gets $100K a year for five years to do with as she pleases just because she is so SICKWIDIT. LOL

Because of that, I picked up Half of a Yellow Sun...I was more than happy to pay almost full price for this one!

Has anyone else read this? It won the Orange Prize last year. I remember when an elderly black man came up to me in the bookstore and TOLD me that I should read Purple Hibiscus, her first book, almost two years ago. He clearly knew what he was talkin bout.

Nom, see my other post--there are a few other folks of color doing interesting work that will also be recipients of this fellowship grant.

I look forward to reading her work!

As a side note--You know all these people are receiving calls from all sorts of folks they haven't spoken to in years--not to mention cousins coming out of the woodwork! LOL

Nice article from the Guardian
http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2008/sep/24/fiction.awardsandprizes

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has already won an Orange prize and a considerable readership, but now she has been endorsed - very lucratively - as a genius. The Nigerian-born novelist has been awarded one of this year's MacArthur Foundation fellowships, popularly known as "genius grants", which come with an obligation-free annual grant of $100,000 for a five-year period.
