Hello All,

Way back in the day, when AALBC.com was still young, there was a list from a college prep book for black students that contained a list of the books that all incoming freshmen should have read when they enter college. Due to the time of the year, and since its been a while, I thought it would be good to revisit that list. Strangely enough, I can not find it anywhere. Tell me, what books do you all think should make up the list.

Racism 101 by Nikki Giovanni
Race Matters by Cornel West
Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison
The Autobiography of Malcolm X by Alex Haley
All About Love by bell hooks
Where we stand: Class Matters by bell hooks
Soul on Ice by Eldridge Cleaver
The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey

That's all I can think of for now but I'm sure others will keep it going.

I think black college students should also learn more about becoming entrepenuers. Most colleges only prepare you for working for someone else. Books that teach you what to expect when starting your own business could be helpful. Two I can think of are: The E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don't Work and What to Do About It by Michael E. Gerber and "Psychologically Unemployable" by Jeffery Combs.
