I vaguely remember someone saying to check the title of my book to make sure it isn't already used. I think it was Books In Print, but can't seem to access that unless I have a paid membership. Is that the correct name? Does anyone know of a website to check book titles?

You should be okay by checking Amazon.com and a good public library catalog. You can find just about every public library at www.publiclibraries.com.
Remember, you can't copyright a title. So if your book has the same title as a book that's not very popular, you might want to keep it. Of course, if your book is called The Divinci Code or something, you should drop it. 
Also remember that if you're trying to get published traditionally, for now your title is just a working title. If a publisher buys your manuscript, they can change the title. So pick a good one but don't get married to it. |

is the source you're speaking
about.
I agree with Emanuel. Checking on
Amazon would be a great resource
to be sure your title isn't already
in use and if so, to what degree.

I checked for the title for my latest book Fools' Heaven. It turns out that it was used before by Mary Francis Donner in 1932. I found no other books titled Rooftop Diva. There is a song Fools Heaven by Dead Mans Party
I decided to use Fools' Heaven because it was so long ago for a book.
