I vaguely remember someone saying to check the title of my book to make sure it isn't already used. I think it was Books In Print, but can't seem to access that unless I have a paid membership. Is that the correct name? Does anyone know of a website to check book titles?

Thanks bunches!

You should be okay by checking Amazon.com and a good public library catalog. You can find just about every public library at www.publiclibraries.com.

Remember, you can't copyright a title. So if your book has the same title as a book that's not very popular, you might want to keep it. Of course, if your book is called The Divinci Code or something, you should drop it. :-)

Also remember that if you're trying to get published traditionally, for now your title is just a working title. If a publisher buys your manuscript, they can change the title. So pick a good one but don't get married to it.

You are correct, Books In Print
is the source you're speaking
about.

I agree with Emanuel. Checking on
Amazon would be a great resource
to be sure your title isn't already
in use and if so, to what degree. :-)

Won't Be Denied,

I checked for the title for my latest book Fools' Heaven. It turns out that it was used before by Mary Francis Donner in 1932. I found no other books titled Rooftop Diva. There is a song Fools Heaven by Dead Mans Party

I decided to use Fools' Heaven because it was so long ago for a book.
