Hi everyone.

It's KOLA. :-)

I'm going to have to start posting again.

Tonight I met Troy Johnson at a BEA PARTY,
it was actually a party for Written Magazine
by the most beautiful, wonderful sister named Michelle Gipson.

Check out Michelle Gipson. I just love her!

http://www.writtenmag.com/AboutWritten/Publisher/index.cfm

Anyway, I was so shocked to see Troy Johnson
walk in the place!

He came directly to my table and was really kind and friendly to me, and it wasn't an act--Troy is so nice (plus handsome) and a gentleman. I can't wait to tell ABM.

Troy, Me (and 3 other people--Linda Duggins, Ron Kavanaugh and Joy Bramble) sat together at the same table for the whole night.

Troy treated all of us to crab cakes.

It was incredible fun. We had wine, talked
about a ton of different stuff, took pictures and basically "kicked it" while the most interesting people---ie. former Miss Black
California, Charla Barker, came by our table
and chatted with us.

I got to really talk with Ron Kavanaugh, the
publisher of "MOSAIC MAGAZINE" and I can assure
he is the nicest, most fabulous person you
would ever want to be at a party with. I really
like him and I was sad that I cursed him out
in the past. He's such a kind person.

I got to apologize and get to know him, and he's
just SO KIND. I really adore him.

Now let me tell you about Linda Duggins (the head of Publicity at Grand Central).

This heffa is in her late 40's(that's what she claimed to my face) and she
has the BODY OF A 20 year old!!! And I'm
talking the body of a FOINE 20 year old.

She is SO fukckking hot! (and there's no
lesbian undertones in that statement before
gossipers get started with their B.S.--I'm
just saying it as someone who would KILL to
have her figure---SHE MAKES ME SO SICK!)

I had to force the men to give her a round of
applause, because everytime she hopped up to
do something it was like---"memories, sweet
memories
" (of when I was young, SLIM and
built hot like that!).

She's not the "glamour" type though. She
carries herself "upper class middle aged" and
reserved with a sista-girl twang, but I
have to give it to her...she's BAD.

Linda was my favorite guest of
the whole night. She is SOOOOOOOO real.

I mean down to earth, your Mama/Sista/therapist
all in one type real. Just so welcoming and
genuine and friendly. I just really loved
meeting her.

MONDELLA JONES was the hostess, and it goes
without saying that Mondella did a fabulous job
with the festivities (NOBODY LEFT TIL IT WAS
APPROACHING MIDNIGHT---the atmosphere, music
and everything was just ON POINT for the entire
evening).

But what shocked me about finally meeting Mondella IN PERSON (we've chatted on the phone
over a year and emailed before that)---but anyway, what is SO SHOCKING about meeting
Mondella in person---is that she doesn't look
anything like a magazine writer/literary agent.

For those who don't know---Mondella used to
be an editor/starmaker at "BLACK ISSUES BOOK
REVIEW". She's now a literary agent.

She looks like a movie star.

I kid you not.

I was SOOOOOOOOOOO out-glammed tonight!

The black heffas in "Publishing" are HOT! I'm talking gorgeous model-looking sisters
who work "behind the scenes" and you would be
ASSUMING that they look like Mrs. Graves from
4th grade glee club!

OH NO. These sisters from "Corporate" be
representing. Mondella, Linda, Charla, Tonya Evans Walls, Michelle Gipson (whose beauty reminded me so much of my African mother--the bow lips and rich Oromo complexion--absolutely REGAL with a capital "r").

I was really glad I went and really proud to
be around all the people there. They were so
nice.

My one "regret" is that ZANE and I had our
tiff, because I really wanted to meet her and
give her a big hug and tell her how great she
is for liberating us all with her erotica books.

I love my sisters no matter what, and even
though I've called Zane a "bit/ch", I have love
for her and I hope she knows that.

I think Zane is great and I forgive her for
attacking and hurting me.

But, of course, the biggest relief was getting
to finally meet Troy Johnson.

Troy was just so welcoming and kind to me.

I told myself I have to come back to AALBC, and
if I can get ABM to post with me, then I will.

I think it was George Waitte, an editor at
St. Martin's Press who said they ought to do a
BOOK-BLOG of Kola Boof's AALBC discussions from
over the years, and Troy told me that he would
agree to do it---so who knows----if I "blow up"
and get on a major house, then Troy and I will
probably be packaging all these rants that we've
all dished out for so long.

It's good to be back.

Yes y'all I met the Queen herself, in the flesh. Photos to come.

Still in LA tired as you know what. Probably going to hit the hay early -- working of 4 hours of sleep and still on NY time.

I got a procilmation from the City of Los Angeles today -- it made my day. It was in recognition, from the organizers of the Leimert Park Book Fair, for my contribution to Literacy. An extrodinary gesture of good will from the folks in south central.

A few select people (not I) were invited to a party at Prince's house. He has a coffee table book coming out later in the year with a music CD.

I visied Eso Won's book store as will as a spot across the street called the Zabezi Bazaar wich sells, amoung other things, rare Black books, magazines and records.

They have an exhibit right now for Amiri Baraka. I never really appreicated Baraka's body of work under I saw this exhibit.

I also Learned Stanley Crough was down with all thise cats back in the day. This is hard to image given is words and image today.

Troy, get some sleep man. Yeah, you are obviously tired and missing your spell check *LOL*. Made me feel right at home :-).

So, you and Kola was hanging out huh. Kola and Troy......being at that table would have been better than being invited to Prince's house......well, sort of. Look, let's pretend that she's not looking.....tell me all about her....let's pretend that you are my father's son....we are brothers.....tell me, did she smell good?

LOL!

What an awful picture Troy. I was hunching down to fit into the shot, Carey, and like I told you, had just came from swimming.

Troy, I know you have some better ones than that.

That's OK. We'll take some tonight.

Troy, congrats on your proclamation! And your non-invitation is Prince's loss. :-)

Welcome back, Kola--Hope all is well with you and yours!

LOL--FK, I just re-read your post and see that you said Crouch is an "enigma." For some (Freudian slip) reason, the first time I read that as "enema." LOLOL!

Yvette, for "some reason", eh? LOLOLOL. Crouch is crazier than a loon, fighting his critics and what not, but the man can turn a phrase.

Yvette---HI LADY.

It's always good to read your posts.

How's the pretty girls? :-)

UPDATE

I got to meet Zane on closing night of BEA.

Zane was very shy and I went up and hugged
and kissed her.

I told her that she's great and that we need to put our "tiff" behind us and she agreed.

She was so sweet.

She has a really pretty face and was nearly
invisible to the partygoers, because she came
so meek and hung with her circle.

I also met a very famous editor from Random
House named Melody Guy, but I didn't know it
was her until half way into our conversation.

She was so cool you wouldn't believe it.

AND YOUNNNNNG! My god. After hearing about
her for so many years, you would imagine some
Stiff, Cold eyed MATRON type lady, but she
is so sweet and softspoken and has the prettiest
little cupid face. I almost didn't believe
she was Melody Guy.

Then I met superstar writer Mary B. Morrison.
All I can say is "HOT." It was fun meeting
Mary aka HONEYB and she kept calling me "Amazon Goddess", which of course made me adore her.

I gave out 50 Gold "gift bags" containing signed copies of all my books---and because of the NUDITY on the back covers (which I honestly
never think about)---it caused an uproar at
the party.

Mary B. Morrison was hilarious as she said,
"We're being upstaged by an African diva!"

I changed gowns TWICE at the party
Saturday night!

A lot of "bullshit" was said about me by others
though. The usual 'crab' stories.

But you would have been SOOOO impressed,
because I DID NOT go into Joan Crawford mode.

I was sweet and gracious to everyone.

I mean after the way Troy snapped me from
the most hiddeous angles with those
Post-swimming shots...don't you think I
deserved to dress up and wear some gowns?

I met a bunch of guys at the party, and
one was Zane's author Che Parker. He
was fun! :-)

MAD AT TROY ALREADY!

Regarding that awfully GOOFEY photo of me
that Troy posted.

Rest assured that I don't actually look that
bad in person (or even like that) as many other people's photos from BEA have bared out.

I'm still mad at Troy for posting that when he had better ones.

Troy snapped a shot of me talking with
Max Rodriguez, for instance---it was sideways
and we didn't know we were being snapped.

When I asked Troy to let us pose for a
"nice one"--he said that he only wanted the
UN-posed shot.

These are shot at terrible angles and IMO
have a distorted look.

I was so mad at Troy, because at this
moment in my "transitioning" to the major
houses in NY, I'm trying to make a good impression on people who've never met me and he's trying to INFER that I'm not attractive.

Which for women trying to market themselves
is really detrimental, but it's Ok. He
don't know me. I will show his ass up down
the road.

One thing I LOVED about Troy's "Black Pack" party was how so many men kept buying me
dinner.

Including Troy Johnson.

Ferociouskitty, thanks for the kind words.

Regarding the Prince party; of course it would have made sense to reach out to the prominent book sellers that might actually sell and promote the Prince book. Then again, we are not publishing the book so...

On Saturday, during BEA, Cynthia Exum hosted The Leimert Park Book fair. It went very well the next day. It was like a less hectic version of the Harlem Book Fair.

I ran into TJ Butler and her family at the book fair.

TJ was one of the first authors I met. We met in Philly at the African American Cultural Expo in the late 1990's. She wrote a book called Sorority Sisters: http://aalbc.com/authors/tajuanabutler.htm. Her husband Robert Jackson is also an author.

It was wonderful to see such a good looking family. It was even more beautify to see TJ, an accomplished author in her own right, supporting her husband, and introducing him to folks at BEA.

I brought a bunch of old magazines from the folks at Zambezi Bazaar. The store is run by the Kimbrough Family. They also recieved a certificate from the City of Los Angeles the same night I did; during the opening reception for the Leimert Park Bookl Fair.

I met Alden Kimbrough that same night. I was very impressed by this brother's knowledge and consiousness. I actually got a professional videographer to tape his exhibit on Amiri Baraka on Monday after BEA.

Before I went to LA I knew I wanted to capture something uniquely LA on video that was -- not related to BEA.

I did not know idea Baraka's output was so prodigious the Kimbrough video will be very informative. I hope to have it posted in the next week or two.

Zambezi Bazaar is located directly across the street from Eso Won Bookstore. Don't go to one without visiting the other.

Yvettep, that sports Jacket goes with anything (smile).

Carey, the time stamp is NY time so you can see I was up late I that night and I had not even gone out for the evening...

Well,

Troy I somehow manage to look like
ugly in all your photos.

And good in everybody else's.

I DO think you attempted to shoot me a
certain way that isn't flattering.

What hurts my feelings...is that
you deliberately EMPHASIZE my height
--as if your photos are to make fun
of my tallness in relation to other
people's.

No one else did that with their photos.

You being 3 feet tall, I guess you've
never had people make fun of your
height---so you don't understand why I
wouldn't like those pics with Max
and wanted to "Pose" rather than be
made to look unnattractive.

Because that's OBVIOUSLY the whole point
of your photos--to make me look as
unattractive as you possibly could.

But I'll be in NYC for BEA next year and
being a "PRO", I'll know what to do to
counteract the bullshit of SMALL people like
yourself.

The good thing is that VIDEO doesn't lie,
and I will be creating one that showcases
how I actually look.

What you meant by "unique individual"...I
really don't know what you meant by that
either---I WISH YOU WOULD BE MAN ENOUGH TO
JUST TALK YOUR SHIT STRAIGHT OUT----but then
wimp ass two-faced people like yourself are good for that fork-tongued shit.

YOUR MOTHER was a "unique individual."

What I AM...is one helluva woman.

Height and all.

And I know when I'm being "fronted" by a
PHONEY two-faced asshole who's trying to
make fun of my image.

SO FUKCKK YOU TROY JOHNSON annnnnd your
"candid 50 Foot Woman Shots"

What a shame you all saved your REAL faces
for when you weren't grinning in mines.

But then again...we'll all have plenty of
opportunities to revisit the back-biting
and betrayal that comes with dickless mofos
like YOU!

Interesting.

Queen Kola, welcome back!

I have four questions for Troy Johnson.

Why wasn't Kola Boof shot straight ahead
and in flattering light like Mary B. Morrison
was photoed? Its obvious that the pics of
Kola are shot at angles that really don't
make sense but how come Mary B. was done
normal?

How come after all the nice things Kola
said about every frigg'n person at the
party including yourself you posted all these "gawky" pics of her and said the
other women were cute and 'ravishing but
called Kola a unique individual kind of
like she's a rare lab specimen? Doesn't
that sort of show intent?

Three what does the photo of Kola with the
man named "Max" say more of? That she's 7
foot 9 or something and we need to notice
that?

Last what did you think the Kola haters will
do with these pics and didnt you honestly take
these photos from bad angles to entertain
people who hate Kola? Its so obvious.

I can see why Kola's feelings were hurt but
Kola Boof you shouldn't let this get you down.
Many of us have seen you in person close up
and know that you're beautiful inside and out.

WHAT DID YOU DO WITH KOLA'S ASS?

I've met her in person. She definitely has a butt.
