As you know I post author's photos on the homepage of AALBC.com under the category of Authors You Should Know

The authors selected and posted here are based solely upon my descretion. Sometimes I post authors here based upon popularity as demonstrated by the number of times their web page has been forwared or on their book sales (ex. Karrine Steffans).

Sometimes I feel people need to know more about a specific author and will put their photo up for that reason (ex. Molefi Kete Asante).

I'm refreshing the list of authors shown (long over due) however I'll probably keep the 2 most frequestly clicked authors a replace the others. I know this may be too much AALBC.com web site maintence minusia for most, but her is the point:

The following authours listed alphabetically below were shown in the Authors You Should Know slot over the past 15 months.

Bakari Kitwana
Brenda Jackson
Edrea Davis
Howard Zinn
Jacqueline Woodson
Jean Toomer
John Edgar Wideman
Juan Williams
K'wan
Karen Hunter
Karrine Steffans
Kelvin E. Boston
Mari Evans
Mark Anthony
Mary B. Morrison
Maya Angelou
Michael Eric Dyson
Molefi Kete Asante
Nikki Turner
Queen Latifah
Quincy Troupe
Randal Pinkett
Renee Daniel Flagler
S. F. Powell
Sekou Sundiata
Teri Woods
Therone Shellman
Vickie Stringer
Victor McGlothin
Wanda Coleman
Wendy Williams
ZZ Packer

Which one of these authors do you think had the highest click through ratio (CTR)? In other words, of all the times the author's photo was displayed on the hompage which one was clicked the highest percentage of the time?

My guess would be Karrine Steffans. People are fascinated with all-things-celebrity, and she has plenty of celebrity-related stories to tell. Plus she looks good.

Good guess; but Karrine would be 6th on this list.

I'd click on Queen Latifah because I didn't even know she was an author, and I'd want to know what she wrote.

Lili another good guess but Stringer is #9

Awoman, very good. Teri is #3 but I don't think it is because of the situation with Caleb. Teri's books are as popular as hell.

Coincidentally, I'm working on a page for Caleb Alexander now. Take a sneak peak: http://authors.aalbc.com/caleb_alexander.htm I think you will find it interesting.

Afrika, Sekou Sundiata was near the bottom of the list at 27# Unfortunately many people are not familiar with Sekou. I hope the one who clicked learned something new and discovered a great talent.

Emanuel here is the Queen Latifah page http://aalbc.com/authors/queen_latifah.htm. She actually wrote a popular children's book a few years ago and a memoir with help (I'm sure a lot of help) from the prolific Karen Hunter. Latifah, despite her celebrity, was #21.

I was actually surpised by the #1 myself.

How about Michael Eric Dyson? He appeals to both intellects and hip hoppers and is fairly visable on TV.

Or maybe Wendy Williams who is always good for dishing the 411 on black celebs.

Needless to say, I'm basing my choices on people whom I've heard of.

Dyson and Wendy Williams are 25th and 10th respectively.

After looking at the results I actually had to make a change such that authors do not aways appears next to the same author. If I put Sekou next to Nikki Turner (#2), Nikki Turner will always win. I now set it up so that the same two authors do not consistently appears next each other.

Do, or would, any of you click the link an author that you have never heard fo before?

I wouldn't click on to an author unknown to me. So I will now proceed to go from the ridiculous to the sublime, and guess - K'wan or Maya Angelou.

Maya is #19 and K'wan is #22

Here are the top 10:

Karen Hunter
Nikki Turner
Teri Woods
Mary B. Morrison
Jacqueline Woodson
Karrine Steffans
Therone Shellman
ZZ Packer
Vickie Stringer
Wendy Williams

My hope is that visitors would be interested in learning about authors who they are unfamiliar with and occassionaly click a mug to learn more.

However it does appears that people usually want to read more about someone they are already familiar with -- which is way promotion is so important for new and unknown authors.

I think Karen is popular because of her work on so many books on controvesial subjects and celebrities.

Troy,

Wow! Nice page for Caleb. Who would ever think that a writer of Urban Drama could be so multifaceted! *WINK* Very Refreshing.

I'll be shooting you an email later about it.

Thanks!
