Might have to eat my words about bookstores going the way of the record store (posted here earlier). The new concept stores set to debut later this month show they ain't going down without a fight. A lot depends on how true the promotion turns out to be, but supposedly you'll be able to publish your own books among a lot of other cool stuff.

I have a post and video on my blog.

Very interesting....no chance that 1 of the 14 will be in Milwaukee, WI! Oh well.

Thanks for the info, Connie!

I'm having difficulty wrapping my head around Borders self-publishing partnership with Lulu. I admit to only skimming the article, so perhaps I missed it but, as far as I can tell, no one would be able to print and bind a book, self-pubbed or otherwise, on the spot with this new digital service. So what would make a person walk into one of the Borders locations that offer this new digital program for the purpose of self-pubbing? They could self-pub through Lulu far easier and far more conveniently from the comfort of their homes. So I really don't understand that part. The balance of Borders' new digital program seems innovative and, perhaps, the future of physical bookstores.

I admit that we will have to see how this plays out. If it's just a gimmick to get you in the store and not competitive with offers like Lulu it won't fly. I don't expect you'll end up with a book on the store shelves, but perhaps in an online Borders catalog or something like that.
