LMAO. I never realized the depth of a-woman's hate and resentment. But what's really funny is how she flatters herself into believing that I have nothing better to do than to sit around and think about her and her career. Puleeze. I have 2 beautiful accomplished daughters and 4 up-and-coming granddaughters, all of whom are the light of my life. A-woman is out of her freakin mind if she thinks I'm plotting her doom, and her and her paranoid suspicions that I am out to get her and that I have so much clout that I could damage her career proves how deluded she is. In the first place, who on this board is that familiar with this vicious little varmint? In the second place, I can't even remember what a-woman's real name in spite of the fact that she thinks I'm as obsessed with her as she is with me. She really takes herself seriously and what's even more revealing is that she obviously takes me seriously. Anybody secure person is not threatened by me or bothered by my taking on the role of a cynic, challenging and tweaking the noses of other posters. And it's not like I don't have the same thing done to me. I'm the constant butt of jokes and my real name and picture have been splashed all over this board to the point where I don't even care anymore since embarrassing my husband was my main concern and now that he's gone on to that big discussion board in the sky it ain't that serious. For a-woman's sake, I hope her career takes off so she won't continue to be so consumed with anger. And maybe one day she won't be so mystified by why I come to this board. If she ever reaches my age and has 5 kids and 9 grandchildren coming and going all seeking attention and favors from "Mommy" and "Nana", maybe she will get it, - maybe she will realize that a cyber discussion board can provide a change of pace and a chance to stretch out. |

What's to understand, LiLi? What's so different for an author to hide on this site than anyone else, like an agent, publisher, and other industry professionals? I'm not being funny, just trying to understand your thinking. Is your real name Libralind2?
For me I've stated quite plainly--I've posted some things that I'm not exactly proud of and at the time I posted them, I really wasn't sure if I'd get a publishing contract or not. In hindsight, I guess I would have done things differently, but I didn't and I can't go back and change that now, can I? So that's that. I'll sell my book on this site, under my real name just like other authors do, it doesn't matter if everyone knows it's awomon's book that's selling, now does it?

I dont CARE if you hide I just dont understand it..and I think I was pretty clear as I always try to write for folks assuming they have at least an 8th grade education as I read somewhere that is how they set up the newspaper so who am I to write above folks head..YKWIM..??? Your comment about trying to always write for people assuming they at least have an eigth grade education is clearly defensive so I ask you again... what did I write that was defensive or offensive for that matter? I stated that there are a whole lot of writers and others on this board who choose to "hide" to use your word . Since you and Miss Sese live near me, I was really hoping to strike up a friendship, Not an argument. For REAL. Do you think we can start this over? |

Didn't know that the newspaper was geared to the 8th.grade reading level. Recently submitted a short story and received, in part, the following response: You are a very good writer, writing to a higher, advanced college level. Our stories use easier word/sentence structure, writing to the 8th. grade level. Many of your words are not normal vernacular to our market & the reader would have dificulty getting through your story. Shocked, I had never received a similair rejection, wondered if this was the reason for prior rejections
Please believe me, this less than a thousand word short story was written, as are all of my stories,in plain common everyday useage words. Nothing fancy> |

Was the rejection a "form" letter Se-Se? Big words can be stumbling blocks in a text. Also long sentences can be intimidating. But I would think that anybody who voluntarily reads, would be reading at a fairly high level. It's the folks who don't like to read who have the 8th grade reading level. Was the publication you submitted your story to considered a "mainstream" one? |

When I was employed by Dept of the Army, the standard was to write at the 10th grade reading level, unless it was technical subject matter.

No Cynique, the response was in the form of a regular letter not a form letter. The story was written using plain everyday language, nothing fancy with average length sentences (I hate long sentences).The story was submitted to a very popular mainstream publication. |
