Has anyone read this book? New York Times reporter Ron Stodghill discusses his new book, Redbone: Money, Malice and Murder in Atlanta, a true-crime story about the murder of a wealthy black entrepreneur in Georgia.

I am ashamed to say, that I have been taking an extended break from fiction, reading mostly non-fiction for the last 6 months. I am looking to get back into fiction. Several books on the front page of aalbc look promising. And I also came across this one.

REDBONE really sounds like my cup of tea because I love true-crime books! Since I've been relegated to the ranks of "red bones" by the colorist brigade on this board, I'm particularly interested in checking the book out.

Yes, Cynique! I, too, am a suckker for these kinds of books. One of guilty pleasures is that A&E show "City Confidential" (narrated devilishly wonderfully by Paul WInfield). I love the weaving of the history of a specific city/town with the story of the victim, his/her family and friends, the murderer, and the community members. This book sounds a little like a book/Black folks version of that show!

Yes, I love City Confidential, too, as well as all of the other real life documentaries about cold cases and forensic files that appear on the cable channels. A cold case in my home town was cleared up a little while back. A classmate of my daughter's was found murdered and sexually molested in an alley. The police had a suspect but they couldn't construct a strong case against him. But 25 years later, DNA came to the rescue and the guy was finally brought in. He happened to have been one of the victim's school counselors who her close friends had always suspected she was involved with.
