HIP-HOP AND YOU DON’T STOP!!! What’s really good, fam? …The summer may be ending, people, but GHETTOHEAT® is risin’!!! Worldwide, the intensity continues to soar, in which your loyal support makes that happen everyday—and I thank you for that!!! Speaking of which, I’ve recently received a bunch of e-mails from you asking: “What exactly is GHETTOHEAT®?” That question can be answered several ways.

GHETTOHEAT® is the title of my self-published book that I released on September 12, 2003. Filled with heartfelt poetry and prose, GHETTOHEAT® reflects the lives of many, including myself, living within the inner-city, nationwide; which I refer to as “Ghetto-America”. The book takes you on a cathartic journey, each poem and prose connecting to each other, expressing the joys and pains, strengths and weaknesses, trials and tribulations, and the triumphs over adversities.

The book was written shortly after the demise of 9/11 in 2001, a challenging time in my life, which ultimately manifested into me creating my company, GHETTOHEAT®, a publishing company that has formed itself into a multi-media group.

THE GHETTOHEAT® MOVEMENT is a scholarship fund geared towards youth pursuing careers in Journalism and Literary Arts. Part of the proceeds from sales of GHETTOHEAT® products goes toward helping teens within the urban community with financial assistance towards their college education. It’s also people, such as yourself, who have joined forces with me across the world, helping me promote literacy, especially within the inner-city, as well as spreading the word on the importance of reading.

My personal definition of GHETTOHEAT®: intensified energy from the urban streets that spreads rapidly: S-S-S-S-S-S-S!!! GHETTOHEAT® is love, lust, passion, desire, ambition, creativity, excitement, force, hotness, strength, power and at times, trouble, all wrapped into one! It’s extreme, unexpected and rises at any given moment without warning.... It’s what exists before, during and after the fire—at all times, GHETTOHEAT® remains.

For example, GHETTOHEAT® is Damon “Amin” Meadows and Jason Poole, the new artists signed with my company. Two unique brothers from the streets, both unfortunately lured to the trappings of the inner-city. Because of the mistake they both made separately in the past, Damon “Amin” Meadows and Jason Poole were sent to Federal Prison—both convicted on drug charges.

Yet, both men didn’t allow a horrible sitution or their new maximum-secured and highly controlled environment, dictate their lives, or force the two to take a turn for the worse within the prison facility. Damon “Amin” Meadows and Jason Poole actually found inner-strength, faith, and by fate, each other within the Federal Prison in Kentucky, joining forces together and collaborating to create the new, controversial novel, CONVICT’S CANDY .

CONVICT’S CANDY is based on a true story, focusing on a teen-aged, pre-op transsexual named Candy, who looks exactly like a woman; beautiful I may add. Without telling you the story, everyone, Candy gets sent to Federal Prison due to a few crimes “she’s” committed. Due to getting arrested a week before her scheduled sex change operation, Candy is tossed into the facility where “she” has to live with the male inmates.
People imagine this, a beautiful transsexual with the flawless face of a young Lisa Bonet and the body of Beyonce that won’t quit, mixed in with strong, masculine, handsome men, many who haven’t touched a woman in years, all forced to live together—madness and mayhem!!! I reiterate, it’s based on a true story.

CONVICT’S CANDY deals with sexual identity, homosexuality within the prison system, the interactions and relationships between the inmates and officers, infidelity and most importantly, explains how the HIV virus spreads rampantly within the jailhouse; including how the dangerous and deadly disease is transmitted within society, when infected inmates are released to go home.

Damon “Amin” Meadows and Jason Poole actually conducted interviews together, gathering facts and pertinent information from the actual transsexual, inmates, both gay and straight, as well as documented personal observations and events the two writers have witnessed while being incarcerated. They’ve also done research on HIV and AIDS, wanting to become more knowledgable on the ongoing crisis that affects us globally. Although most of the characters and events in this novel are true, the story has been fictionalized to protect the guilty...

When I asked the two talented writers what was their purpose of writing CONVICT’S CANDY, they both said that they wanted to expose what was really going on behind the prison walls, in addition to educating readers everywhere, especially those in high-risk urban areas, about HIV transmissions and how the crisis is leading among African-American females.

So as you can see people, Damon “Amin” Meadows and Jason Poole, two intelligent Black men from two different urban communities, have totally turned their negative situation into a postive one, under intense measures and limited resources within the Federal Prison, whose goal at this point is to enlighten people worldwide, while educating them through entertainment. A perfect example of GHETTOHEAT®: THE HOTNESS IN THE STREETS!!!™

Damon “Amin” Meadows was born and raised in South Philadelphia, and is the proud father of two beautiful daughters. In 1993, at the young age of 21, he was tried and sentenced to life without the possiblity of parole; being only a first-time offender. Through his faith in Allah, “Amin” has been successful in the appellant process—given a release date that will grant him his freedom in the near future.

Jason Poole was born and raised in Washington, DC and is the father of a teenaged son. He’s also the Essence best-selling author of Larceny, writing the novel while serving time in prison. In 1996, Mr. Poole was incarcerated on a drug violation charge, currently serving an illegal sentence, due to an erroneous enhancement—awaiting appellate relief any day now.

People, would you like some Candy? Do you think can you handle the sweet taste of Candy? Get ready, because I’m about to give you your first piece of Candy. Everyone, an excerpt from CONVICT’S CANDY:

“Sweets, you’re in cell 1325-upper,” said the Correctional Officer, as he’d instructed Candy on which cell to report to. When she’d heard ‘upper’, Candy was happy that she didn’t have to take the bottom bunk, wondering who would be occupying the cell with her. As Candy had grabbed her bedroll and headed towards the cell, located near the far end of the tier and away from the officer’s desk and sight, butterflies had grown deep inside of Candy’s stomach, as she’d become overwhelmed with nervousness; trying hard to camouflage her fear.

The fact that this was Candy’s first time in prison had frightened her, being forcefully trapped in terror against her will. Candy had become extremely horrified, especially when her eyes met directly with Trigger’s, the young, hostile thug she’d accidentally bumped into while being placed inside the holding cell; Trigger rudely shoving Candy when she’d first arrived to the facility.

“THE FUCK YOU LOOKIN’ AT, HOMO?” Trigger had spat; embarrassed that Candy had looked at him. Trigger immediately had wondered if she was able to detect something different about him and his masculinity, hoping that Candy hadn’t gotten any ideas that he might’ve been attracted to her, since Candy had caught him staring hard at her.

She’d quickly turned her face in the opposite direction, wanting desperately not to provoke Trigger, as the thought of getting beat down by him instantly had come to Candy’s mind. She couldn’t exactly figure out the young thug, although Candy thought she might’ve had a clue as to why he’d displayed so much anger and hatred towards her. Yet, this wasn’t the time to come to any conclusions, as Candy was more concerned with whom she was sharing the cell with.

When Candy reached cell 1325, she’d glanced twice at the number printed above on the door, making sure that she was at the right cell before she’d entered. Candy had peeped in the window to see if anyone was there. Seeing that it was empty, she’d stepped inside of the cell that would serve as her new home for the next five-and-a-half years.

Candy was overcome with joy to find that the cell was perfectly neat and clean, and for a moment, she’d sensed that it had a woman’s touch. The room had smelled like sweet perfume, instead of the strong musk oil that was sold on commissary.
Right away, Candy had dropped her bedroll and raced towards the picture board that hung on the wall, analyzing every photo, curious to know who had occupied the cell and how they had lived. Candy believed that a photo was like a thousand words; she felt that people told a lot about themselves by the way they posed in photographs, including how they displayed their own pictures.

Candy had smiled as her eyes perused over photos of gorgeous models, both male and female, and had become happy when she’d found the huge portrait of her new cellmate. Judging by his long, silky jet-black hair, facial features and large green eyes, Candy assumed that he was Hispanic.

Finding out the identity of her cellmate, Candy had decided that it was best to go find him and introduce herself, in hopes that he would fully accept Candy into the room. As she’d turned around to head out the door, Candy was immediately stopped by a hard, powerful right-handed fist to her chiseled jaw, followed by the tight grip of a person’s left hand hooking around her throat, crushing Candy’s vocal cords so she couldn’t scream.

Candy had haphazardly fallen back into a corner, hitting the back of her head against the wall and had become unconscious momentarily. Within the first five seconds of gaining back her conscious, she’d pondered who had bashed her so hard in her face. The first person that had come to mind was Trigger. Secondly, Candy also had thought it might’ve been her new cellmate who obviously didn’t want Candy in his cell, assuming by the blow she’d just taken to her flawless face.

Struggling her way back from darkness, Candy’s eyes widened wide, now being terribly frightened, as she was face-to-face with two unknown convicts wearing white pillow cases over their heads; mean eyes had peeked from the two holes that were cut out from the cloth. The two attackers had resembled members of the Ku Klux Klan bandits as they hid their faces; both armed with sharp, ten-inch knives.

Overcome with panic, there was no doubt in Candy’s mind that she was about to be brutally raped, as there was no way out. Candy had quickly prayed to herself, hoping that they wouldn’t take her life as well. Yet, being raped was no longer an important factor to Candy, as they could’ve had their way with her. All she was concerned with now was continuing to live.
