Call for stories and poems for the second issue of BEYOND magazine The Central District Forum for Arts & Ideas will be accepting submissions from high school aged students for the second issue of BEYOND magazine from May 31, 2005 to July 1, 2005. BEYOND magazine is an online publication that focuses on science-fiction written by African-American students or with African-American content. No one is excluded based on race. Science fiction, fantasy, and horror stories or poems of up to 7,000 words can be submitted via email to Nisi Shawl at nisis@aol.com. To submit a story or poem please send the submission in the body of your email message, and include “BEYOND magazine” in the message topic. Electronic submissions only; e-mails with attachments will be deleted unread. During 2004, in conjunction with its groundbreaking Black to the Future Black Science Fiction Festival, the Central District Forum for Arts & Ideas published the first issue of BEYOND magazine, an online magazine of speculative fiction by high school age writers. A second issue of BEYOND magazine projected for publication in fall 2005 extends the magazine’s scope while retaining its character. Again asking for genre stories and poems by or about Afro-diasporic people, BEYOND magazine will actively seek material from high school students across the country while continuing to focus primarily on local authors. Selected work will be included in the online publication in October 2005. The Central District Forum for Arts & Ideas is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that advocates and promotes greater awareness of African-Americans in the arts, humanities, sciences and public affairs.
