James Baldwin: The Price of the Ticket
Much of Baldwin's story is told in his own words, as the film makes extensive use of public speeches Baldwin made as well as interviews with the writer conducted over the course of his life. Complementing this footage are interviews with many of Baldwin's close friends and colleagues, including his brother David; his biographer David Leeming; writers Amiri Baraka, William Styron, Ishmael Reed and Maya Angelou; and entertainer Bobby Short. The film also features archival material, some of it rarely seen, and original footage shot in France, Turkey, Switzerland and various locations in the United States, places where he lived and worked. A series of readings from Baldwin's personal correspondence and published works adds to the depth of this writer's portrait.

William Miles, president of Miles Educational Film Productions, Inc. has produced and directed numerous award winning documentaries for Public Television, Turner Broadcasting System, Channel 4/United Kingdom, La Sept/France, SBS/Australia, and WDR/Germany.
His films include: "Liberators: Fighting On Two Fronts in WW II", "I Remember Harlem", "Men of Bronze", "The Different Drummer", "James Baldwin: The Price Of A Ticket", "Black Champions", Black Stars in Orbit", Paul Robeson: Man of Conscience", and "The Black West".

****Following the screening there will be a discussion Q&A session with the filmmaker.
