They should. They certainly have all the grounds to do so. The original rape story accusations flip flopped and changed on a daily basis. Consistency, believability and minimal evidence never existed from the very beginning. The grossly unethical and criminal behavior by Nifong was worse than that of the bipolar delusional street skank. At least the state general attorney had the decency to drop all the bogus charges and openly chastise an out of control arrogant rouge DA. More to follow....

Uhhhhhh...Chris, do you know exactly what they are doing behind closed doors? Do you know what their timing plans may be? Do you know for sure if they are going to walk away? What do you know other than the questions you asked?

True. But why all the hysteria? Maybe they will maybe they won't. Do you have a time line bet going on? Why do you even care?

Nothing. What are we supposed to say? I could personally care less since I don't have a dog in this fight. But I am hoping Nifong gets disbarred.

DNA testing has freed scores of innocent inmates around the country. But where does a wrongly convicted person go when released from prison without a safety net?
Many exonerees are released from their cells without fanfare, apologies or anywhere to go. In some states, more services are available to parolees than to exonerees. During long years in prison, families and friends have disappeared. Any money in the bank before conviction has probably been spent on legal fees. Most exonerees struggle immediately to find housing and work and many bear the weight of a conviction on their record for years before they are officially cleared.
The stories of seven wrongly convicted men and their adjustment to freedom are told in the recently released documentary, After Innocence. Click here to learn more about the movie and to watch a trailer.
The Innocence Project is working to create programs and laws nationwide that help the wrongly convicted get back on their feet after release. One of our goals is to pass fair compensation laws in every state. Right now, 21 states and the District of Columbia have compensation of some form, but even many of these are inadequate.
The Innocence Project also seeks to provide direct services to exonerees in desperate need immediately after their release. This is the subject. For these young men--with access to resources--the system is seeming to work: DNA evidence has cleared them and they haven't been convicted nor spent any time in prison.
Other folks who are cleared of rape and other crimes via DNA are not as lucky. They may be convicted--even spend years in prison. Upon discovery of the miscarriage of justice, they are often released with hardly an apology let alone monetary compensation.
You tell me: Which is the more important subject? |
