On the •••••• brown furniture Thread
ABM stated that he found it hard to take
the woman who had bought the furniture
seriously because of her fake hair.
Now my Question IS why do Many American black
women wear weave in a texture that is
not EVEN Close to their own natural hair texture?
Are YOU Embarassed to wear your hair Natural?
Why is it that Many foreign Black women do NOT
WEAR Ridicoulously FAKE LONG Weaves to the SAME extent
that American Black women do?
Do Not Think that Foreign blacks or Africans are All ugly because they are Not
They KNOW HOW TO KEEP IT REAL.

Gimme a break! I don't think black women are obligated to justify their preferences in hair wear to black men. Black men have not earned an explanation or an excuse. Until these less-than-perfect brothas get their act together and show loyalty to black women, then black women shouldn't feel the necessity to please or placate them. And it's not like black men don't go for superficiality in areas other than hair. Get outta here.! |

Back in the 60s black men used to wear press and curls. Then in the 80s they wore jheri curls. Now, they get texturizes and put waves in their hair. |

I think the question is problematic. It assumes that a hairstyle represents a person's self-image. Sometimes, it does. Sometimes, it doesn't...
As I said elsewhere, you can have a woman with a natural you hates her blackness. She likes the natural hairstyle, hates her nose, color, lips, etc....

The most vocal black folks are the very ones full of blatant contradiction. They think "nappy-headed" is a put-down, yet they babble about self-hate. They lament the mysogny of rappers but are in denial about them being the ones who supplied the bullets for the cheap shot taken by Don Imus. At least this volatile issue takes our minds off of Iraq. |

we should be careful, here. the context is, we live in a white dominated world, where the white standard always looms...so among jews, italians, etc...you have the same issue...they blond their hair, get nose jobs, and asians also get their eyes fixed so that they look for european...so while i agree that rappers and black people in general have issues of color and features...the context is white supremacy! |

I don't think Imus would've tried to be hip by adopting the rap lingo if he wasn't familiar with what this lingo was, Yvette. White folks love to try and talk black. Had he not had a command of hip hop slang I doubt if Imus would've called those young women "whores"; but using 'hos gave the word a different more "playful" connotation. |
