FWIW, Mzuri and I have had opposing views on several topics on this forum. She and I stated our positions and supported why we believed what we believed and felt the way we felt with facts and/or personal experience(s).
Our debates were always affable. Mzuri has NEVER cussed me or called me out my name, even when we disagreed. Personally, I find Mzuri to be intelligent, well-rounded, and she communicates quite well in written language. Even while disagreeing with her, I've learned a thing or two from her.
I said all that to say this: I find that sometimes, and I may be wrong here, but sometimes certain people just don't "blend." Y'know, they just don't mesh well together. It's no one's fault, really, it's just the way it is. We encounter this everyday in the "real world," so I think it's only natural that we'd encounter the same in an online discussion forum setting.
I have a co-worker who has never done a single thing to me, and she's damn good at what she does, but it seems like whenever she walks into the same room as me the air feels heavier. I usually end up excusing myself from the room to avoid a possible confrontation. Maybe she feels the same way about me. I can't explain it, but we just aren't meant to blend together. Sometimes I wonder if we weren't in a professional environment would we go at each other's throats. See, and, that's the thing about an online setting such as this - there's opportunity to go at each other's throats without any life-altering repercussions. |
