not trying to start a big argument here but i got this idea from one of eastwest's comments on another thread. here's his comment in bold
"If African women were all so ugly,
they would not be Dating interacially.
Many of them in the U.K are Dating outside the race"
after reading this it occurred to me that i had heard several other black women say that once it was known that they were in an interracial relationship or had dated interracially in the past, more black men paid them attention. i was wondering if any other women here have had this experience and what were their thoughts on it when they noticed this.
in my opinion it just shows that alot of men have a "herd mentality" and just cant seem to think for themselves...lol...they need a leader to think for them. if the big dog in the pack finds a woman attractive then everyone wants her...however if he deems her unattractive none of the other men will notice her.
alot of black men (and other men of color for that matter) wouldnt be falling all over white women (especially blondes) the way they do if white men hadn't paraded them around as the best thing since sliced bread. i think that if white men all of a sudden decided to make black women the beauty standard one day then men of color would be stampeding over blondes to get to black women...i guess what the white man says goes...lol
it really is sad.

You're right that it could be a black man; however, I serioulsy doubt it. Reason being, black men who are open to interracial dating/marriage generally are open to all women -and, in my experience, don't use derogatory terms to describe women who share their "race", or who are "brown"/"black". Though many negative stereotypes abound regarding black men who are open to dating/marrying non-black women they are, for the most part, more worldly and embrace their own hertiage/culture than they are given credit for. Also, in my experience, I notice how white men who have a perverted perception of non-white women are also the very same men who can't stand for any white woman to date interracially. It's quite an obvious double-standard. Therefore, it's no coincidence that eastwest's only attempt to justify his objectification of black ("foreign"/"exotic") is to discredit white women, in this case me, who have the choice, and right, to date/marry non-white men.

There's an old saying within the Black community that "I don't want nothing that nobody else doesn't want" (or something to that effect - if you've heard it then you know what I'm talking about) which probably means that people don't want to be with someone that others don't also find desirable.
As to the dating outside the race - to each his own. But women, Black women, should focus on being themselves, being enlightened and all the other things I've said before about making themselves attractive to a man. Your desirability and marketability may or may not depend on your availability. Obviously people want what they can't have, that's old news. But in the end, people are going to want you because you are desirable and attractive. Not because you are flaunting your interracial relationships, or because a white man wants you.
From what I've experienced, Black men typically want a woman who has her shit together and who isn't clingy and needy and desperate. Black men want strong women, and it's normally a Black woman. Will they want seconds from a white man? That's another issue.

mzuri, alot of what you said is what men SAY they want (and as far as the strong woman part goes alot of them will even admit that they dont want a strong woman)...their claim is that a woman is not suppose to be strong.ive heard many of them outright state this just like i said it. "a woman is not suppose to be strong."
but back to my point...alot of those things you listed ate what men CLAIM to want but you will find that most of them pick women based on the most superficial reasons. this isnt just black men either but you will find that more men period will want you if you are with a celebrity or someone who is considered "big-time" or "the top dog"....but you're right about people wanting what they cant have.
you also mentioned men not wanting a woman who is clingy...that may be true i dont know but judging from the fact that a woman )black or white) who is college educated finds it harder to get a man ...or a woman who makes more money than the average man is more likely to be single this kind of contradicts the idea that a man wants a woman who is not at least somewhat clingy or dependant on him. this is true eventhough you have tons of successful women wanting a man.
bottom-line, the chickenheads get all the men.(especially if they have "good-hair" and a big behind)..lol...
i mention the good hair and the big behind part because alot of men (black men in this case)choose women based MAINLY on those factors and then complain when the women they tend to pick screw them over yet they keep making the same mistake and some never learn (and dont really care to learn).

this is true for all households (black white or asian) but in households where the woman was earning more (meaning women who REALLY had their shit togather financially) had the highest divorce rates.
so that mentality amongst men is across the board. |

Whatever Misty. If you ever pay attention to what I wrote there's usually a caveat. I said typically. And I'm sure that the men you encounter are different than the typical men I've met. The men I deal with are grown. And by that I'm not referring to an 18 year old.
Most men don't want no broke •••••. They want a woman who can hold her own. It's human nature. A man wants to know that a woman is capable of raising his children, and that she can continue to do so even if he's not around. You better ask somebody. And here again, I'm referring to long-term meaningful relationships, not simply who a man will screw.
There are higher divorce rates amongst women who have their own money because they don't have to try to appease a man that's not acting right and they don't have to put up with his bullshit anymore. She's probably the one that told him to step. A woman who doesn't have her own income is unable to call any shots, and therefore she's gonna eat more shit, that's just the way it is.
Single women with money might want a man in passing, but they tend to be alone because men require too much care and feeding - not because they can't get a man. Men are too time-consuming and a pain in the ass. If a woman owns her own home, car, generates her own income, then she doesn't need a man for money, and she doesn't really need him for sex, and if she can handle her own household chores (or pay a fix-it man for honeydews), what the heck does she need a man for? Somebody to hang around to be a nursemaid to??? Somebody to clean up after??? Because she wants some dick???
Trust me girlfriend, that shit gets old quick.
