Police: Husband killed wife's student lover

The tragedy of teachers sexually preying on their students, chronicled by WND, has been taken beyond shame, embarrassment and ruined careers with the murder of a Tennessee high school student, allegedly at the hands of the husband of a teacher with whom the teen was having a sexual relationship.
Sean Powell, 18, died late last week as he sat in a Mercedes parked outside the Knoxville home of Erin McLean, 30, a student teacher at West High School. McLean had completed half of an unpaid one-year teaching internship at the school where she met Powell last fall.
According to police, Eric McLean called them on the evening of March 10, saying that an intruder was at his and his wife's home. Seven minutes later, Erin McLean called police to report her husband had shot the teen. The assailant fled, abandoning his car at the high school, but was found two days later carrying the shotgun police believe was used to kill Powell.
"Nobody could imagine him doing anything like this," Jamie Daly, whose son grew up with McLean, told the Knoxville Sentinel. "He was just the greatest kid, every mother's dream. He was so kind hearted, he's the last person in the world you'd expect to hurt somebody."
McLean was finishing his studies at the University of Tennessee in hopes of becoming a high school band director, relatives said.
According to Norman McLean, the suspect's father, his son had put his own academic career on hold to support his wife while she pursued a graduate teaching degree at the university.
"Now, I am only talking about myself. But I can personally only take so much," Norman McLean said. "Everybody has a breaking point and there is only so much you can endure before you get to that place ... where you lose control.
"You see all this stuff with teachers involved with their students. It just comes up time after time on the national news," he told Associated Press. "Well, this is the first time where one has actually died over it."
Eric and Erin McLean have been married for 11 years and have two children, 7 and 11.
Eric McLean had attempted to find Powell a place to live last fall when the student's adoptive parents made him leave their home. Relatives said he was unaware that his wife was involved with the student.
Debra Flynn, Powell's birth mother, has no doubt who is at fault in the murderous triangle.
Erin McLean "preyed on" her son and teased him with talk of marriage," Flynn said. "She led him on. She's 30 years old and he's 18.
Powell briefly moved to Nashville to stay with Flynn when forced to leave his Knoxville home and it was at that time Flynn discovered the relationship with McLean. The teacher repeatedly tried to contact her son, she said.
"She text messaged him things like, 'I love you,' 'Please come home,' 'You're beautiful,' " Flynn said. "He was staying with me, but he went back to Knoxville to be close to her.
"These teachers are feasting on our children in school and something has to be done."
