This new best-seller "The Secret" is generating a lot of interest among the world of losers. Oprah gave it her blessing and now adherence to its philosphy has almost reached cult status. Some, however, are now coming forward to declare that what this slim little volume is preaching is nothing new. It all boils down to the old "power of positive thinking" approach to getting what you want in life. Others have scoffed that the book is nothing more than a manual for "greed". Anyway, below is an excerpt from an article explaining the gist of the book. Reading this summation instead of buying the book may thwart its author's secret desire to earn a bundle by taking advantage of the idea that a sucker is born every minute, but you can't win 'em all.
Your current life is a reflection of your past thoughts. Thoughts become things.
People don't possess what they want in life because they focus more on what the don't want rather than what they what to attract.
Shift your own reality by mastering your mind and summoning what you want through persistent thoughts.
Whatever your circumstances right now, that is only your current reality
Shift your attitude to one of gratitude, which then will attract more positive things to be grateful for.
Create - "pictures in your mind of yourself enjoying what you want. The law of attraction then returns that reality to your" as you imagined it.
This Creative Process is drawn from the Bible's New Testament, and requires three steps for fulfillment: Ask, Believe, Receive. Ask the universe for what you want. Believe that you'll get it. Receive this positive thing through "inspired action." which is effortless because you are "acting to receive". |

I had a book years and years ago, it was called "The Strongest Force In The Universe" or something to that effect. It was about the power of attraction and that we attract things to us (people, money, material possessions) by the vibes we emanate into the ethers. Catherine Ponder's series of "Dynamic Laws of Prosperity" books are based on the same philosophy, plus the teachings of the Holy Bible. So I agree that "The Secret" is nothing new, it's just some rehashed repackaged ancient philosophy. And the word "secret" is one of those buzzwords that is proven to arouse interest so this whole thing is one big perfected marketing scheme.

Bring me your cares and woes and 25 dollars and I will share with you the secret of getting what you want in life through the esoteric practice of low maintenance."

Oh Thank You Svengali Cynique. But rather than being in charge of the flower garlands, I would prefer to take care of marketing because $25.00 is much too little, we can charge your followers $999.99 each plus accommodations.
I'd also like to be in charge of the make-up, hair and wardrobe departments, interior design, entertainment, food, real estate development and our fleet of Rolls Royces.
Low maintenance is for the birds

Sounds like a big old scam to me. And it's not like I spend a whole lot of time getting Scammed. I saw the "contributors" on Larry King the other night... if Oprah fell for their mess then shame on her!! I'm THROUGH with her this time. I don't even watch the Oprah show anymore.

Whom ever was responsible for the marketing did an excellent job. The word "secret" as clichest as it is, indeed it's still a buzz word. Cause this concept is old. It's one of the MA'AT principles(from Ancient Egypt)and definitely from Eastern thought. I may just purchase it for my own amusement tho. |

Yes, Yvette can sign on as an observer of our operation, and conduct a study about the gullibility of people. She can later turn her findings into a book called the "Secret Of Getting Over". And in my white flowing robe, with my hair piled high on my head, my palms extended, gratitude coursing throughout my slender body, I will stand outside of her book signings, selling books marks, gently uttering: "Why lose your place, when for the meager price of 99 cents you can find where you left off." |
