The Black Minutemen:
The Black Face of White Nationalism

Jim Gilchrist, founder of the Minuteman Project, has been given the boot by the MMP board of directors, who charge the former CPA with embezzling some $70, 000.00 from the organization. He’s now been replaced – amid a flurry of charges and counter charges - by Marvin Stewart, an African American minister who’s rabidly homophobic and anti-Muslim.
Something wrong with this picture? You bet. Can’t imagine Minutemen following a Black leader? Well, apparently it depends of the Black leader.
The Minutemen and their spin off organizations like Save Our State, in Southern California, insist that they can’t be called racist because, after all, they boast of a tiny cadre of Black members and hangers on – at least in California. A quick glance at the record should be enough to tell us just what kind of Blacks the Minutemen find acceptable.
Most prominent of the Black Minutemen has been Alan Keyes, who ran the financial end of things for Chris Simcox’ Minuteman Civil Defense Corp, and for Gilchrist’s bid for a seat in the US Congress. Both Simcox and Gilchrist have been separately accused of misuse of Minuteman funds, and Keyes has apparently abandoned ship – Gilchrist’s ship, at least.
But Keyes isn’t your average Black politician. While it’s all – but immoral and extremely difficult to peg any African American with anti-Black and anti Brown racism, Keyes is a prime candidate for the tag. Keyes’ involvement in Gilchrist’s campaign should be enough of a tip. Gilchrist ran for Congress on the American Independent Party ticket- the party founded by arch-segregationist George Wallace. Keyes backed him every step of the way.
Keyes was Ronald Regan’s Special Assistant for National Security Affairs, and reportedly worked on covert funding for the Nicaraguan contras. In other words, his preparation as a fund raiser and organizer on behalf of US trained and sponsored death squads made him a particularly well-suited candidate to organize the funds of the nascent, wanna-be death squads who call themselves Minutemen. He had plenty of practice pulling together monies aimed at the murder of innocent brown skinned people in Latin America.
The white vigilante organizations grouped under various Minutemen banners publicly disavow racism and violence, understanding correctly that to openly embrace them would be to acknowledge their roots as a spin off of the Militia/ “Patriot” movement that brought the world Ruby Ridge and the terrorist bombing in Oklahoma City, and as spin off of the Klan Border Patrol initiated by Klan leader and notorious Nazi David Duke. But what’s communicated in private is a different matter. Check out this email from prominent Minutewoman Laine Lawless to her allies in the “white nationalist” / Nazi movement, urging Klan and Night Rider <myspace>style</myspace> tactics. Her suggestions include the following:
• "Steal the money from any illegal walking into a bank or check cashing place."
• "Make every illegal alien feel the heat of being a person without status. ... I hear the rednecks in the South are beating up illegals as the textile mills have closed. Use your imagination."
• "Discourage Spanish-speaking children from going to school. Be creative."
• "Create an anonymous propaganda campaign warning that any further illegal immigrants will be shot, maimed or seriously messed-up upon crossing the border. This should be fairly easy to do, considering the hysteria of the Spanish language press, and how they view the Minutemen as ‘racists & vigilantes.’"
There are other reasons Keyes fit the Minutemen bill. While serving as a shield against charges of Minuteman racism, Keyes credentials included not only the death squad murders of Nicaraguan peasants an other unarmed civilians, but, amazingly, for a Black man, the defense of the Apartheid regime in South Africa.
Keyes is a long time member of the pro- Apartheid South Africa Lobby in the United States. He fought openly against the movement for sanctions against the Apartheid regime, opposes Reparations, and was wildly popular among hard Right groups in the US for such stands. He has served on the board of the Council for National Policy with such notables as arch racists Trent Lott and Jesse Helms, and the likes of Gen. John Singlaub (a founding member of the CIA who organized death squads in Viet Nam as part of Operation Phoenix, and who was involved in the Iran-Contra scandal.
Other CNP board members include figures like Rev. R. J. Rushdoony and Dr. Gary North, prime movers in the Christian fascist Dominionist cult, and right wing extremist Phyllis Schlafly. Keyes himself is a member of a cult of extreme Right-wing Catholic self – flagellators called Opus Dei (“The Work of God”), which supported Adolph Hitler and his Nazi regime, along with Spanish Fascist Francisco Franco and Chile’s fascist dictator, Augusto Pinochet. Pope Benedict is also a member of Opus Dei, and a former member of the Hitler Youth. According to a former Opus Dei priest, the cult’s founder declared that Hitler had been "badly treated" by the world and he further declared that "Hitler couldn't have been such a bad person. He couldn't have killed six million [Jews]. It couldn't have been more than four million.”
For the Minutemen, it would seem, Blacks are just fine, as long as they are willing to oppress, enslave and murder other peoples of color in the name of white racist Empire, and to co-exist with, and act on behalf of, death squads and Nazis.

You know, there are LOTS of foks who believe more should be done to protect American border who are NOT allied with conservative, reactionary, religious groups. And many of those foks are Black.
And, if he'd allow me to speak for him, I think Ntfs' bored by article that so obviously and blantantly designed to castigate legitimates concerns about border control into so sort of evil master plan of which Blacks are being casted as malevolent pawns and stooges. |

Thank you bro ABM. I have very strong beliefs about our Southern borders that are being neglected by a president and congress who are both street walking back alley whores for corporate America and their insatiable lust for cheap slave labor and out sourcing of American jobs. I cannot accurately express in words my seething contempt for these money grubbing assholes who are suppressing American wages (documented fact) and their relentless lobbying to keep those borders wide open with a tidal wave of illegal immigrants (makes it all that much easier to smuggle drugs across the border and keep Americas supply of drugs stocked) with money and perks to congress and the biggest lying whore in the history of the human race -POTUS!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you again bro ABM. Your crystal ball is definitely High Definition! When I read bullshit articles like this it makes me puke! As if any American who has seen the demographics of their communities dramatically shift with illegal aliens and the crime they bring with them, is racist or morally wrong for voicing their concerns. Now, I'm not attempting to besmirch all illegal immigrants because I believe they are needed (certainly not all are criminals and they do work hard for their meager wages) but there should be some kind of realistic security controls against people who just walk across our borders with impunity. There should be an effective (what we have now is not!) system of management and documentation of who comes to this country, where they are, what they are doing and how long they will be here -LIKE THEY DO IN EVERY OTHER COUNTRY!
I believe there should be a meticulously enforced work visa program to allow them to work. But again, there currently is no enforced institutionalized structure and documentation of illegal immigrants that is enforced! Bush continues his nauseating phony Home Land Security joke as if he is actually securing this country by locking down the borders and carefully screening everyone coming here after the 9/11 attack. What a lie!!. IT'S NOT HAPPENING NOR IS THERE ANYTHING TO SUGGEST THAT IT IS HAPPENING!
I refuse to let some race baiting hack browbeat me into believing that I am a racist for wanting to bring order and control to the massive chaos at our borders. The thing I'm most struck by is that at any point in time this country has nearly a million Black men who are American citizens incarcerated WHILE it allows MILLIONS of NON-Americans break our laws and rampantly reproduce throughout the country.
I think there is a CONNECTION between the former and latter. There's active degradation of Black foks, and particularly Black men, that is in CONCERT with allowing all the illegal immigrant.
In essence, Hispanics have become America's modern day, new/improved kneegrow.
And, yes, the fact that we've invested so much life, limb and cash into fighting foreign wars WHILE allowing free reign over borders is proof of just how schizophrenic our policies are.
If 100,000's of foks easily come into the America per day, then WTF kinda benefit are receiving from all the spending, fighting, killing and dying half a WORLD away? |

Also, what's evil about what's going down here that they don't really WANT to resolve the Mexican immigration issue. Because resolving it would require they do one of 2 things:
1) Punish millions of people, thus, forgoing the benefits of their artificially low labor and talents. Or...
2) Grant the illegals the kinds of citizen rights that would drive up the COST of their labor and talents.
So were going to effectively have form of indentured servitude that depresses the value of the skills/labor of MOST Americans, including that of Whites, Blacks and Browns. |

i think something you all are missing is that texas WAS in fact mexico at one time but it was STOLEN from the mexicans...so basically the only illegal immigrants are those who stole mexico in the past and their decendants. |

now of course what is happening to black people in favor of mexicans is completely wrong and no blakc person in their right mind would support it but facts are facts...texas IS rightfully mexico and i think it's a bit insensetive to label these people illegal immigrants when they're simply migrating back to their indigenous land...not only are they migrating back to whats theirs but this migration is BECAUSE of the few resources they were given to work with AFTER texas was stolen from them...its alot like pushing the natives off of their land and giving them small chunks of barren land to reside on (the reservation) and then telling them they're illegal if they decide to live off the rez. |

I support the minutemen.
As far as Texas and California being a part of Mexico, as ABM mentioned, this is all native land. The Comanches, Apaches, Modocs, and other nations that lived in California and Texas do not agree that that was Mexican land. By that logic Mexico and Cuba belong to Spain. |

what you have to understand is aLOT of the people were calling mexicans are actually full-blooded natives......in fact most of the native americans that are still alive today are classified as "mexican".....not only that but most mexicans are a mixture between native and some spanish...so Yes, texas is their native land rather they are mestizo or fullblooded native. |

the people who we're calling "illegal" aint askin for people to give up their homes....they're simply asking to get in america and earn a decent living......really that's liek saying they're here to take over. the people we should be mad at are the whites who take all the jobs...its not the mexicans taking the jobs its the well-off WHITES...why scapegoat the mexicans and try to blame this problem on them....not only that but the people in the article allowed for "illegal aliens" to be shot simply for crossing the dam border...why anyone in their right mind wouldn't see a problem with that i will never know. |

I'm all for Mexican's LAWFULLY immigrating into America. But I think by their illegally immigrating into the country, not only are they committing a crime but they're imposing myriad socio-economic problems on those of use who are lawfully here.
Moreover, I don't think it's fair for millions of Mexicans to be able to come here to work and live if millions of non-Mexicans (say, for example, Jamaican ones) cannot do the same. |
