Of course he can. He doesn't need Congressional Approval in order to direct US forces to defend US lives and property--which will be the pretext he will use.

He doesn't even need our money. He has enough money, fuel and bombs in the pipeline to bomb conventionally for weeks.

And if he wants to go nuclear--

Who will stop him?

Does America have people and property in Iran? I think Bush's cadre of evil men would intervene in such a decision because they know an attack on Iran could trigger a nuclear holocaust and this would not put money in their pockets.

"Who will stop him?"

No one. There is no need to stop something that is not going to happen. US military forces are stretched to the brink because of his disastrous megalomaniac conquest fantasies, man power shortages and the ravages of corrosive rotational deployments (they're taking a very heavy toll of US military forces). Besides, Bush has drug down and the tarnished the image of the US, made former allies skeptical or loath us (something that has never happened before) and created a world image of the US as the new "Evil of Empire and Imperialism"....totally unprecedented prior to his deplorable administration. It's better to give all the imagery intelligence satellites data from IAMP and special tactical weaponry for deep ground penetration to the Israeli's and let them do it (destroy the buried nuclear sites).

I think most of this recent chest thumping concerning Iran is mostly smokescreen to belie the FACT that the Iraq War and the Bush presidency has generally been a failure.

(The Army and Marines are. The Air Force and the Navy are fit as a fiddle and champing at the bit. There have been many airpower advocates who have been champing at the bit to prove air power alone can win a war.

The odds are much more than 50 percent he will attack.

"The Air Force and the Navy are fit as a fiddle and champing at the bit."

Uhhhhhh.....did you know the AF and Navy are experiencing more and more man power draw downs because of DOD mandates? Did you know the numbers of ships and man power that Navy has today is not what it was ten years ago? I was just at 32nd St Naval Base this weekend and I was shaking my head at the greatly diminished number of ships in port. When I was in the Navy, the water front piers looked like a full parking lot with all the destroyers, cruisers, frigates, amphib ships and tenders. Not any more Those days are gone. During the weekends, the base was bustling with activity and the never ending traffic of sailors coming and going. Not any more. There were on base clubs for non-PO's, PO's, Chiefs and Officers. They no longer exist. You can drive around and not see a soul at night. The base looks completely deserted on the weekends now. THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE OF WHAT IT WAS WHEN I WAS IN THE NAVY. It's eerie.

The AF and Navy have been mandated man power reductions in order to shift funding and resources to the Army and Marines. They now know there must be the development of special fighting units and battalions created specifically for combating insurgencies, urban warfare and ground wars to keep up with the new 21st century tactics and strategies. Since the demise of the Soviet Navy, the US has no real blue water competition. So why not divert man power and funding to other areas that need more resources to meet their commitments? Enter Special Forces (SEALs, UDT's, Green Berets, Air Borne, Delta Force, CIA Special OPS, et al) Army and Marines (man power on the ground).

"There have been many airpower advocates who have been champing at the bit to prove air power alone can win a war."

And this is absolutely false!!! No war has ever been won via air power alone. Can't happen and never will happen. You can cut off my electricity and water and throw rocks in my house all day and night. But if you want me from the premise -ya gotta come inside and physically confront and remove me! That requires man power -boots on the ground bro! The Air Force or navy cannot do that! That's not their job. In any successful war, the Army and Marines will take the blunt of casualties and wounded -not the guys on ships or in planes! You need man power on the ground to to take complete control in a conquest. That is why after the horrific bombings that crippled England by the Luftwaffe, Germany still could not force England into capitulation -not until they crossed the channel. Something (fortunately) they failed to do.

Same thing goes for the US. After a successful crushing defeat of the Japanese Navy and Air Force, they still needed to physically invade Japan with man power. And they knew what the staggering cost would be in loss of American lives for doing so. What was the other option? The Atom bomb. End of subject. Unless you plan to use nuclear weapons, you need troops on the ground to win. And you need to understand this.
