Tyra has got to be one of the stupidest people on earth. Granted, she had a great modeling career and she parlayed that into television and other ventures and reaped the financial rewards. But when she was on Larry King a couple of weeks ago talking about how her weight shouldn't matter she said something to the effect of "I weigh 161, well no, it's actually closer to 160" DUUUUUUUUH. 161 vs. 160??? Give me a •••• ing BREAK!!! This ••••• is STOOOOOPID. Furthermore, she's the one who brought up her weight. People don't know how much you weigh unless they are: 1. A human scale 2. Your doctor 3. She supposedly has some full-figured women on this season, but for the most part, her standards for the models is the same as that of the modeling industry - you gotta be tall and skinny. LOL...ABM I share your sentiments (maybe not as harshly though...) She just feels burnt as she isn't as up to scratch as her model days. We had some of these pictures in gossip mags in the UK and I must say, I do worry for the women who often feel the need to buy these magazines for the sole purpose of people being ripped to shreds et cetera. But Tyra knew what industry she was in and as model she should have developed a thicker skin by now. If she was so worried about her image being used to lower the self-esteem of young girls then maybe she wouldn't have been at the forefront of shows like ANTM which do that on EVERY show. She needs to think about what she is saying and how it reflects her before she speaks. People in the US tell me she is fake, I have always thought she was quite sweet tho, but who really knows? | ||

i really do think tyra in a way stands for something black...notice most of those girls who win on her show are black...so she's giving aLOT of black women a chance in the modeling world....plus she constantly pumps up the idea that thick lips and large behinds are beautiful every chance she gets...thats something ive noticed. remember when she got all over one of the black models that was on her show about her attitude? she was being extra hard on her because she was trying to help her...along with other black women who have similar problems with attitude. | ||

Say what you will about Tyra, she has always been engagingly self-depricating, always telling people that she has cellulite in her thighs and wears hair extensions and relies heavily on make-up, just as she has always taken pride in her naturally endowed D-cups. She's entitled to speak out when people call her fat because she seems to have a special empathy for overweight people as witnessed by her donning a fat suit to prove how prejudiced the world is against overweight folks. What black America doesn't seem to understand is that it's still defining race, ethnicity and so on according to the unscientific, arbitrary and discredited standards of the ODR and hypodescendency. Until black America gets over the (not so new) fact that folks like *Tyra, Halle, Alicia, Beyonce, Vanessa, etc...are not considered traditional black anymore, then what they(*) represent will never completely align with the needs of the "typical" black-looking female and society as a whole. hmmm....beyond our grand parents, most of us do not know the "racial" origins of our ancestors...there was alot of raping going on those plantations, as well as the jim crow period; and white women did birth the children of their slaves, as well. thus, if one does believe in "race," one needs to account for the imperceptible--blood. Beyond phenotype--skin, hair, and facial features, how does one discern if a person is "mixed" or not?
